WDW Commando Club

Our plans are for WDW in Aug/2015 (dates to be decided by DH, who's going to find out when the vintage truck shows are on in Maryland or Virginia), followed by DL in Christmas or sometime late fall 2016. Am actively job hunting, but all jobs locally have been filled by college students till late Aug. Do have a lead on a job that may come into fruition in the coming weeks hopefully though. May throw out some more resume's this week, and see what happens. Did pick up a couple of the Unofficial guides to WDW, and found some interesting info on them. Loved their sense of humor as well.

Oooh! Maybe 2016 is the way to go for me as far as DL cuz that's when my oldest will graduate from high school. :thumbsup2 Good luck with your job search! I'm running into the same job seeking problem in my local area too.

Airgoofy, I'm with twokids0204 sitting and eagerly awaiting that 2020 or 2025 TR....I might run out of Flamin' Hot Cheetos before then though....

What I'd like is to find something in retail that I can stick with for a year or 2, then try to find something in administration, hopefully in data entry (my career of choice with tons of experience). Thrown out close to 20 resumes over the past couple of weeks, but with the kids getting out of school the end of next week for summer vacation, it's going to make it harder for me to find the time to look for work. At least the resume's are out there, and hopefully I'll get a response. It was announced that the Zellers where we live is turning into a Target in Mar-Apr/13, so hopefully they will stock some good Disney gift cards.

My son saw Randall's pics of Cars Land and went crazy:lmao:, In the next 5yrs we will be going, I have 2 problems, 1 is trying to get 2 weeks back to back off, and the other is flying:scared1:, so when the time comes I'm only going to fly for this trip so to spice it up it will also include Hawaii and a west coast Disney Cruise, If I'm going to do it I'm going for the whole package, since I might never get on a plane again after that:thumbsup2

Ron, check out the book "Flying without Fear" by Dr. Duane Brown.

My wife is terrified of flying and heights, and it seemed to help her a lot.

Just got back from VA but put I can answer this question since it was 95+ for 3 days and of course got heavy rain for half a day, I'm going to bed now since it's late but I'll post my insight on this even though it was in other theme parks :confused3

OK so how did I manage the heat & whats a trip without some heavy rain:confused3

Day1- 95D+ - Kings Dominion, although no where near the scale of WDW, it is basically 3 parks in one, 1st thing we did was Dinosaur land has a extra $5 charge but well worth it:thumbsup2, has a setup like AK where you walk paths and yes even though its all shaded it was still hot but bareible, next we hit the lazy river & wave pool in the water park for a couple hours that is included with admission, you could spend the day there it's actually pretty big:banana:, now all refreshed went to lunch and hit the rest of the park, we did catch a inside show that was nothing to write home about but it was nice and cool:thumbsup2, as for lines I can say there were none I don't know if it was because of the heat or that it was the middle of the week:confused3 Anyway day 1 of the heat was a success with no complaints:woohoo:

Day 2- 95D+ - Busch Gardens, we started off the day at their water park, Water Country USA as soon as it opened, headed for the lazy river, this has to be the best lazy river ever:thumbsup2, you don't use a tube, you wear a life jacket and you can float as the current pulls you, I could stay on this all day:thumbsup2, hit other water rides and the wave pool and about 1pm we went back to the hotel to change and headed to Busch Gardens, 1st thing we did was eat lunch, caught 2 inside shows, now the shows here are really good, if you ever go here and don't see them you are missing out:confused3, then started to hit the rides, walked right on everything:banana:The only thing I was disappointed in was the new coaster was having trouble and was closed by the time we got to it:confused3, had dinner then did more rides, always had our cup full of soda or iced drink, once again we beat the heat with no complaints:woohoo:

Day 3- 97D+ - 1st part of the day was a repeat of Day 2, but this time when we left the water park the sky was getting really dark:eek:, we got changed at the hotel and headed to BG, when we got there it looked like it was going to rain any minutes we headed to the furthest part of the park for lunch that also has a show, we were about 100ft from it when the sky opened up:scared1: we got lunch and the show started about 20mins later, I was thinking this was going to be like a summer storm at WDW maybe last 1/2 hour tops and clear up, nope wrong:eek: after the show the rain was light so we moved out made it half way around the park before it started coming down heavy again, we made it to a inside ride, when it slowed down we moved again and the rain stopped so we went on the rides in the area, then it started again and we saw a inside show, when it stopped again we caught the train to a different section of the park and hit the ride that was open there, now it was a bit of a walk to the next section, luckily the rain held off till we got there, we hit a inside ride while the sky opened up again, now we are trapped at the exit, it's pouring and we rate almost at the furthest part of the park again and have done everything in the park that was open, so we went shop hopping heading to exit, grabbed dinner after we were done eating the rain stopped still thunder going on, but it was time to leave, we made it out of the park and to the car without getting soaked:woohoo: We were back at the hotel by 8pm:eek:

IMO I would much rather deal with the heat then the rain:confused3, you can escape the heat, but the rain once you get wet, everywhere you go inside has the A/C on and now your freezing, although in WDW it's a lot easier to manage the rain since everything is mostly inside and things are closer together:rolleyes1

I've been in retail now for 26yrs can't wait to get out:scared1:, I guess it depends what kind of retail, but I have a lot of weeks of blackout dates that I can not have off, all of which my wife and son have off:scared1: Plus weekends are kinda hard to get off:eek: I guess if I owned a retail store I would be able to get off, but then again I would be the boss so I could get off whenever I wanted to:rolleyes1, mmm I really have to work on that:confused3

But Good Luck on your job quest, hope you find something soon:goodvibes

Please add me to the commando list...it's nice to know I'm not the only 1.

Recently, my ex-husband admitted to me that when he went back to disney with his new wife a few years back he printed my spreadsheets from our 2002 trip to use a a guideline.....

The only problem with our last June trip was that I raised a set of commando teenagers who tried to overthrow me for ultimate commando....nothing worse than teenagers who THINK they are in charge... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

wish i would have found this thread before we went in June...i confess with the new fp enforcement I planned even MORE!!!! (if that's possible)

Welcome. It seems my children have been in charge since they were born. :rotfl:

We did the Water Country/Busch Gardens/Colonial Williamsburg trip 2 summers ago, mid-July. Everyday we were there, the news said it was another record high, temps in the 100+! We also loved the Hubba Hubba Highway (the lazy river you mention above), my stepdaughter still talks about how great that was. And we spent a whole lot of time at Busch Gardens waiting in line and going on the Curse of Darkcastle (I think that was the name?), because it was an indoor, air conditioned ride that had some mist as well. I think we went on it 10 times in a row to get out of the afternoon heat. In any case, Busch Gardens is no WDW! I told DH we're not taking another vacation so we can save up for Disney. And we probably won't go until DD is over a year, so we have some time.

I'm only looking at jobs such as a cashiering position just to get something on my resume for a year or 2, then looking at getting back into a office position, such as receptionist or data entry, which I really enjoy and am good at (love working with numbers). I really don't want full time, due to the kids school schedules and the fact that I drive them to and from school during the school year. DH is a mechanic, but is getting no hrs where he's working, despite being there for a very long time. He wants to get on the shipyards next year when the Gov't contracts start dialing up. So he's biding his time before he can get enough hrs there in order to make the switch. He's willing to make this work to get more money in the house, and I'm ready to head back to work after 8 years being a stay at home mom.

:welcome: You are Member #203:cool1: You may have to remind the teenagers that the one who pays for the trip is the High Command:thumbsup2, As far as your ex using your old touring plans, I guess I would feel a little honored that he thought enough of your planning to use it years later:goodvibes

Hello fellow Commandos!

Could you please add me to the list? We are headed to WDW in 18 short (ya right) days & I have already done Disney orientation with our group of 6. The itinerary packet was a mere 16 pages. :rotfl:

So glad there is a group like this for people like me. :goodvibes

Welcome. Our leader will be around to give you number. Orientation packets are an awesome idea.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

A little back story about itinerary packets:
When we have gone to WDW as a group, there was a lot of standing around figuring out what to do...I hate standing around, especially in 90+ degree temperatures! This is how my commandoing skills came about. When we returned to WDW the next year, I sort of took control of all the planning & no one objected.

This is the first year we are staying on property as a group, the last two trips have just been DH and I and we have become quite the touring professionals because we don't stand around! We are going with DMIL, and DH's aunt, uncle, and cousin. DMIL has never stayed on property, so I wanted to give her as much information as I could: like what is KTTW card, and what it means to have EMH, and how to get to our ADR at Whispering Canyon from Bay Lake Tower. Not to mention the difference between quick-service credits and table-service credits.

Basically, the itinerary packet is a basic plan for each day.

Each park day specifically states we will get to the park as early as possible, read: Rope Drop. It also includes the first attraction we will FP and ride. Other than that I really made it a point to include things that they may not have seen before, I also made suggestions on where to use their snack credits..why waste it on a regular pretzel when you can get a Dole Whip, right?

Also in the packet is a chart that shows them how to use their dining plan so that they don't end up with unused credits. Of course, the ADRs are all listed and account for all our table-service credits. That reminds me, I also made everyone a dining punch card to keep track of snack and quick-service credits. Since we're all staying in a 2 bedroom, our credits are pooled so everyone needs to keep track of their own.

When everyone came over for Disney orientation, we served homemade Mickey cookies to get everyone in the mood.

Some people were wondering when they would be sleeping in on this trip, ha! :rotfl: I told them they can sleep when we head to Vero Beach for 2 nights. We'll see how many rope drops we actually make...

Let me know if you have any other questions about the packet. It was so easy to make, I just used Microsoft Word.

Love your itinerary packets! I think my family would kill me if I did that, they already complain that I'm not flexible enough... but nobody ever says we didn't accomplish a lot! :lmao:

Those packets are excellent. The cookies look good too.

We have never done a group trip. We offered to take MIL, BIL and his family with our DVC points and he demanded his mother pay for their food, tickets, and merchandise, and that we move the dates to make the trip more convenient for him. So, we nixed that one. We met some friends me for dinner last year, but that was because they didn't want to plan anytime together at parks. They did three days at WDW & three days at beach.

I'm just letting everyone know that the people that I received a call from many months ago are back at it again. I just received a call from them saying that my computer was getting excess spam and they needed to correct it. I could tell that he was reading from a form, it was that obvious. I cut him off, stating that I would check into it myself, and hung up on him. DO NOT let these guys near your computer. They disable your antivirus software, and load a ton of spyware/malware/viruses into your computer. And if I'm getting a call, all the way out on the wet coast, there's a good chance you'll be getting a call from them as well. Be aware that they are at it again, so that if you receive the call don't be fooled by them, and if you hit a slicker caller than the one that I got you may get suckered in.
