WDW Annual Pass Timing Speculation

How about AP level package membership with auto renewal ( cause every corporation hopes you forget about the lifetime renewal with credit card info ) and then make it a discount with D+ Channel for first year . They aren’t worried about DVC right now but definitely NEED to improve the streaming numbers for Iger 2 year contract retirement terms .

Legoland does this with monthly pay. After 12 months you go on month to month essentially and you have to email to cancel.

Existing DVC owners, even direct, Disney already has your money.

While true, my guess is there were a lot more "addons" when members had an AP to entice buying even more points.

I also suspect many resales are being sold because of no AP. Like if they own at BWV and BCV-maybe sell one, if not both.

And don;'t forget all current owners are paying thousands in fees each and every year. Disney needs to keep owners on board with those 50 years of fees and jerking them around with AP's is not a good way to do it.

They also need to attract new owners. What's the point of buying into that new Poly tower right across from MK if you have to buy tickets every time you want to go like any regular person booking a cash hotel room.

Was listening to a podcast this morning and they were talking about how more and more dvc members are doing more and more resort stays and no trips to the park. Wonder what Disney thinks about that with less people going to parks equals less money being spent but hotels and dvc locations being full,I know we are going in April for 8
days and only spending 4 in the parks
we spent a lot of money for our membership and we all are now getting much less for it,until they bring back the affordable annual pass we will be doing many more resort stays

I'm not really sure Disney cares tbh. If they did, they would've brought back a pass type for DVC members.

My mom just booked a weekend at Saratoga for this September for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal and won't be stepping into any Disney park. I know it's easier to just book a hotel on their property but she wanted to use the rest of her points for this year. I wonder how many people are doing something similar.

Agreed they don't care. They already have DVC members hooked and have their money already.

Agree with both of you but Disney needs to realize that us dvc members are probably there best advertisement,I use to tell people when asked that diffently was worth the cost and the perks were great we bought in 2006
now when asked I don’t have the same answer,s

We just got back from a week long trip and only went into the park for the DVC Moonlight Magic. We decided to check the price for a one day MK ticket. It would have been $360 for 2 people for the day. That was a big no and we did other stuff in Orlando. We didn't really miss the parks.

I think this may be the long term test for Disney on passes and overall value. While we are not DVC, I used to always tell/recruit other friends to go to Disney due to the overall value and ease of vacation (luggage service, magical express, etc., etc.). Several of those families are now repeat visitors, but just last weekend I actively told another family considering a trip that I can no longer recommend Disney like I used to. Clearly Disney knows what they are doing and park attendance/pricing today is still strong for them, but it remains to be seen if they are setting the stage for future generations to keep going. Maybe they only need 1 time visitors at the highest price per guest?

Our family of 5 has been once or twice annual visitors for 13+ years and just snagged annual passes last year in that brief window they were for sale. We just renewed as well. We ended up making many more trips last year than usual and plan the same for the upcoming year. Are we an unfavorable mix? I'm not sure, but maybe Some of our trips we stayed on property and some with relatives in the area. We do dine and buy a lot of merchandise each trip. We just got back from a 5 day trip. We stayed with relatives and I just looked - we spent somewhere between $1500-$2000 on dining and merchandise. Disney probably would have rather filled our spots with guests staying on property, paying for single day tickets, and still buying dining and merchandise.

FWIW, I appreciate your posts. I was an out of state Plat, took the extension during the closures and was grandfathered into Incredi-pass, but let it lapse last year because work got crazy and just did not allow for the pick up and go trips I used to do. That has changed now, but now I have no AP. I know there is a lot of talk about people within easy driving distance but there were also a lot of APs in the NY/NJ/CT area because flights to MCO are so cheap and plentiful from here. I can't remember the last time I even paid for a flight to WDW, I almost always fly down on B6 via TrueBlue points. And just anecdotally, a lot of those folks are heading to Uni instead or looking to other destinations. For personal/ethical reasons Uni is off the table for me so I'm just not taking trips like I once did. And I'd like to, despite all the kvetching online. The negative talk has been a real bummer. Been praying I can update my 10 day hopper by the time my gf and I go at the end of May. I always stay on property, nearly always in a deluxe (except Gran Destino), etc. The room discounts made it a no brainer for how I like to Disney and pretty much paid for the pass. Not having one for our upcoming trip meant the difference between cutting out CL at the Poly.
Just get a pixie pass — they are still being sold

Agree we joined dvc in 2006 and we were sold on a couple things but
the magical express and annual passes were the big selling points
we had annual passes till Covid hit and neither my wife or I renewed because our work wouldn’t allow it to be worth while so we let lapse for a year and would get a new one the following yea off course in the mean time they do away with the passes and magical express, going in April a 4 day pass without parkhopper is now almost 600$.sure hope they listen to everyone and bring back the passes or a lot more of our trips will have no park visits or severely reduced visits
