WDW About To REALLY Get FROZEN!

I'm confused by this??? Low 60's sounds like perfectly fine waterpark weather to me.

I haven't seen 60 (shorts weather) since the end of September and likely won't see it again until late April. In my house, the air conditioning goes on once it hits 75. Wimpy southerners...

We are flying down Thursday night. We are going to MVMCP Friday and planned to take advantage of EMH Saturday night at MK. These low temps are scaring me to death!! I DO NOT LIKE BEING COLD I'm praying for a warm front to suddenly appear mid-week!! We fly back home Sunday when it starts to warm up again...ugh!!

Invest in some longjohns. Bring some long pants to put over them. Have layers. Good socks. Wool knit hats. Bringing along the stuff to go under your clothes, and gloves, socks, and hats, take almost no room in the luggage, but can really save you in the cold.

Our first WDW trip was during the infamously cold December of 2010 and we were miserable. It was a long trip, the weather started changing while we were there, and we hadn't packed correctly. We also went in January this year during another horrid cold snap (21 degrees with wind chill one day!). Both of those times it was colder there than it was at home. In January one of the days it was colder than it was in Anchorage that same day.

It's fine to have temperatures like that at home, but at home I'm not outside trying to enjoy myself 12 hours a day. And there aren't bodies of water absolutely everywhere for the wind to blow across and chill me to my bones. I specifically avoid walking along the bay or sound or lake or anything like that, when it's that cold at home.

What amazes me with them closing down the water parks because of the cold weather. Universal and SeaWorld keeps their water parks open. Discovery Cove is open at SeaWorld also. I'm sure that the pools at Disney resorts are open so why not keep the water park open since the water is heated.

We were at Typhoon Lagoon last February when the afternoon high reached the low 70s. We talked to a CM who said about 200 people were in the park over the course of the day. I don't know how many had APs but doubt many paid full price to go the few hours it was warm enough. Surely the payroll cost more than gate receipts that day.
The next few days will be even colder, so it is financially wise to close.
Hotel pools require much less staff than TL and give diehards a chance to swim.
Discovery Cove provides wetsuits to all guests included with admission, so it is much, much more comfortable there.
Universal does not have waterparks.

Most of their visitors don't come from Calgary.

And most won't be interested in spending the day at a water park when it is 60 degrees.

I live here and when it drops in to the 60's I consider it cold. No way I'm going to a water park when it's that cold.

60F is pushing it for me for shorts, I think a water park would be a bit too chilly. It's fine t-shirt weather though.

That 2010 December, I will never forget. It was brutal. And most years it is cold, but not like that one.

You are so correct about the standing around and the water. At home when it is cold, we are not walking and standing outside for hours on end. We are going from home to car to someplace and then inside. At WDW, you are out in it for hours, chilled to the bone. It is different. And I am used to years of 25 below here and chills in the 40 to 50 below. But I am not out in it for hours.

Layers are the key.

Sounds like rather pleasant temps to me! Wish I were on my way down to the World!
Last year during Thanksgiving week, they closed the main pool at CBR when the temp hit 50 one night. So we went in the quiet pool. It was a very chilly walk back to the hotel room though!

For those nervous about temps like "64 Low 39" that really isn't that cold.

Remember that most of the day with the sun out its going to be much closer mid 50s even in the morning then 40. Those really cold temps you will be sleeping in the resort for anyway.

Now if your from an area that really never gets cold having a jacket and hats and gloves may be good. I know around here 55 is tshirt weather... I posted earlier about a theme park day in Sept where many were still in the water park at 55. I am from New England but if we can swim I would think you would be fine spending the day outside in jeans and a sweatshirt as long as you don't get wet.

Also remember alot of the rides are inside. Those same places you go to get cool in summer will work to get warm if needed in winter.

One other thing... If your not used to the cold some forget this. The posted above that said layers are key is right for another reason. When you go inside and its warmer and your going to be there for a bit... Take off that jacket/sweatshirt! If you stay in them you will get used to the warm temps in the clothes and freeze when you get back out. If the temp difference is high enough it can be even worse because if you start to sweat in the warm parts (say you wore a sweater and didn't think to have something under so you could take it off) now your clothes are damp when you go back outside and your really goign to freeze.

I got it! They must be closing the park to secretly add FP+ queues for the water slides.

FWIW Blizzard Beach often closes in December and January when the temperatures are in the low 60's.

Complete overkill for temps in the 60's, heck even the 50's!

longjohns no, not this week, Dec 2010 it's not, but you will likely want a sweatshirt or jacket, maybe jeans, and closed shoes.
