Just a quick drive by to say that my daughter is home from her 3 week vacation! I had a great mommy vacation and she had a ton of fun at grandmas and camp. Her first sleepaway camp was a hit and she is ready to go back next year!

I've been keeping up kinda...

Glad to see Lisa and Darrell are settling in to life in FL. Gaylean and holly are keeping the thread going strong!
Congrats again to ian and sukie and I hope your wedding is wonderful! Sorry I can't be there to celebrate with you and all the others. I'm looking forward to pics!
Shannon - Hope you had a great night off! I just got off a 3 week mommy vacation and I look forward to next year!

Oh and I cried like a baby when I saw her at camp this morning. I guess I did miss her. AND taylor won the all around girls camper for this session...she was very proud of herself.

Pics will be on the blog soon....good night!
Glad you had a happy reunion! Three weeks is a long time! :thumbsup2

Deborah, maybe Olivia was just tired from the Outdoor Adventure. I'm sure she woke up fine today. :goodvibes

Well Curious George is over, time to get ready for church. After church we'll come home for lunch, then waste time until the library opens at 1pm. Return some things that are due today, and then we might head to the science museum. :goodvibes Have a great day everybody!

You know, I just glanced at Tyler's leg and it dawned on me that the bruise I was seeing is the same one that was there on the cruise. To make sure, I looked at a couple cruise pictures, and sure enough, it's the same bruise. I remember he got it shortly before the cruise and of course, he didn't remember how it happened, but it's strange to still be there 3 months later and not faded at all. It used to be about a 50 cent coin sized bump too, but now the bump is almost down, but the bruise is just as purple. I've never heard of one lasting so long. He must have really whacked into something super hard.

Today, I'm determined to try to get flash working again on my computer so I can see the PC webcams tomorrow! I'll just to a system restore back to the point when flash last worked. But since I have no idea when that was, maybe June, I'll just do one back to May and see what happens. I know it worked before the cruise because I was looking at webcams then and watching YouTube videos of the ship going through the PC last time. I have no idea why I didn't think of something so simple long ago.

UK and US must air different events and show a different schedule. Everytime you mention what you are watching and when Deborah does too, it's always different from what we're watching. I'm recording the Olympics now and watching preseason football. But I have watched the Olympics every day and it just seems to be different from what you're watching.:confused3

They are absolutely getting a different broadcast than we are here. We are getting 7 channels at our house on DirectTV, but Marilyn and Deborah are posting results about 10-15 hours before we see it here. I've been very careful not to read them so I didn't know what was happening.

Speaking of that marathon, I was flipping through channels, and since I only have a few, the only thing this evening that wasn't inappropriate for Tyler was the olympics. So we had the marathon on, and we were pointing out differences in the buildings we saw, and other things, compared to ours. The ambulances were funny looking. Well, we were doing something else for a while, then about 1/2 our later, Tyler said, "Mom, those guys are still running!" Then quite a while later he said the same thing. He told me they must be crazy to run for so long. I reminded him that grandma does that too and he told me that she's nuts too then. :rotfl2: When I finally had to end his fun staying up and forced him to bed at 9, he told me he just wants to stay up until they're done running because they sure can't run much longer! :lmao: At that point I believe they were only an hour and a half into the marathon and I assured him they'd be running MUCH longer!

Yes Tyler, I agree. Anybody who'd run for that length of time is out of their mind!

Hey, Holly don't forget to mark your map with all the runners. Can't miss Kenya!

Holly,

I find it interesting that he doesn't know he does it. Wilson has this thing he does when he is racing too, some kind of movement with his hands and I keep telling him to stop letting go of the wheel, I remember he adjusts his gloves. It is so weird that people can do things and not even notice it. Wilson also is still sucking his thumb when he has his blanket in hand again he doesn't do it knowingly it just pops in his mouth. Of course Paul is ready to tie his hand behind his back.

I think we need to breathe and let these kiddos be. None of these issues will hurt them as long as Wilson keeps hold of the steering wheel at the right time and as long as Tyler doesn't lick anything that makes him sick.

Nan, you're absolutely right, my theory has been that if they are doing it at college now that is a problem to worry about. By the time I get the kids most of the childhood behaviors are gone and they are onto the next phase.... well, boys are a little behind the girls :cutie:

Wilson letting go of the steering wheel would make me a nervous wreck! And I'm very surprised that Tyler never gets sick. But maybe because he licks everything, even gross stuff like his sweaty socks and he's even licked the bottom of another child's shoe at school one day, perhaps his body was able to build up sort of an immunity to many things? But I mainly just worry about kids teasing him. Kids are mean. It's out of my hands though, and kids have been teased for much less. Not much I can do about that.

A colleague of mine who also specializes in drugs has a subspecialty in bullying (like mine is in learning differences) because it leads to drug abuse. It is very interesting the patterns that lead to issues with other kids.

Here are two books of the best books ever written about boys - the first is a friend of mine and he was on Oprah:

• “Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys” by Dan Kindlon, Ph.D. & Michael Thompson, Ph.D.

• “Real Boys: Saving Our Sons From The Myths Of Boyhood” by William Pollack, Ph.D

She is a kid in the Peanuts cartoon stirip, is she also a Strawbrry shortcake?

I am too old for them, they were more for my kids--only I had boys and they were not interested--but I think they are trying to suck you guys (gals) into buying for your children what you liked as kids. Nostalgia leads to spending....

And,
:confused3 if you drive to BC and Shannon drives down, how will you see the Star Wars stuff? :scratchin

Jan :earsgirl:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: OOOOO you are too logical... this is cracking me up. It would make total sense to have Peppermint Patty in the Strawberry Shortcake series. Strawberry shortcake is very popular in my house. Maybe Peppermint Patty should go visit Strawberry Land! When Zoe wakes up I will tell her this, she will get a kick out this idea.

EXACTLY! That was when I got to like and become comfortable with metric, when I didn't have to convert.

We are all comfortable with 2-liter bottles of soda. Does anyone really every get into a flap trying to figure out how many ounces, or pints there are in a 2-liter bottle?

I agree, it was the conversion that killed it.

When I was doing semi-professional baking, I used metric for everything except my oven temperature. My recipes had both measures as did my measuring tools. Professional baking recipes are done in weight measures and not volume measures anyway.

It was MUCH easier to halve or double a recipe using metric.

Well, understanding my metric numbers would have helped me buy shoes in Palermo and Barcelona!

I've never used metric in the kitchen, but I run into people all the time who don't know the difference between a wet and dry measure and wonder why their recipes don't work??????????

Forgot to mention that we did something very fun this week. Did one of our last midweek morning DL trips that we'll do for about 13 years. And we went to the "Movies on the Beach" and saw Night at the Museum. It was really fun.

Ian, they are doing a story about "Is Chicago ready to host the Olympics?" They say yes they are!

Here's a couple of books you may be interested in (I listen to a lot of books in the kitchen.)

The Making of a Chef by Michael Ruhlman
Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl (she has a couple of books)

Jan, Here you go. Zoe thought this was very funny and Patty should go on a trip to Strawberry land.

This is Peppermint Fizz from the Strawberry Shortcake series:

Hmmmm... :scratchin That would go with hot pink, hot yellow and hot DIS green striped mini-skirted dresses and go go boots... or chunky platform shoes...ribbons and flowers in her hair.....

Or am I mixing my decades again.....:rotfl2:

Jan :earsgirl:

Ummmmm... No... I hear you are quite close in the decade of the wedding of the year... ;)

OR.....
Leave the toddler bed in this town and BUY a big girl bed in the NEW town. :thumbsup2

Jan :earsgirl:

NEVER AGAIN :sad2: Never again am I eating pizza from that place..... I am very uncomfortable and cannot lie down. Tom's Dad is here, he went to the Air Show with us and is sleeping on the futon in the livingroom because we live in a little condo and do not have a guest room.

SO, I am sitting in the dark, in the office, trying to catch up when I am 30 pages behind.

And WHY you ask AM I 30 PAGES BEHIND?
Because I cannot DIS when he is here as he keeps talking about things and I keep looking them up on Gooogle as I am sure he is wrong. What did Shannon say about being negative...... So bad, so very bad.......
:scared:

.

Jan...you're a little late to Friday's party, but I bet you had less of a hangover than Holly had!!! :rotfl2:

Meet me on the OTHER SIDE!!!????:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

OF SLEEPING, you silly goose!!!! On the other side of at least 8 hours of restful sleep... I wasn't thinking the OTHER SIDE... :rolleyes1

The Go Go boots for the women would be a nice touch, and Beatle boots for the guys.

Ask Sukie if he has any left overs from the 60's... I was just born then...

I found it much easier to open up a second box of Duncan Hines... :lmao:

I couldn't work out what you were watching over there. I think one night John1 saw the swimming before we were awake, so he was watching live. I found it all a difficult concept because they are 5 hours behind us, but were watching things before us, if you understand me.:headache:

Hi Marilyn!!!

Finally woke up... slept 15 hours... I guess I really needed it... now I have to pack for my trip to Houston...Oh yea.... ;)

They talked about this very thing one morning this week on NPR. The television station made the decision to not broadcast in real time but in US prime time, hence, the event is already long over by the time it is broadcast here.

Ian, they are doing a story about "Is Chicago ready to host the Olympics?" They say yes they are!

Chicago is an extremely well run city.

I am sure that if our Mayor, His Honor, Richard II has his way, the games will be held here and the city will be transformed.

His Honor always gets his way.

Happy Sunday everybody!

Jan - I hope your pizza woes are over.

Holly - Did Tyler make you rearrange your room? Did it work with the bed in the corner?

I enjoyed my 24 hours of ALONE time and was happy to have my busy, noisy family back. The girls and our nephew had a fun trip to the football game, but Ken didn't enjoy the 8 hour drive home. 3 kids meant way too many bathroom stops :rotfl2: :rotfl2: All 4 of them game home with new tin lunchkits that were given out at the game.

When we had Shaelyn, Ken got a multipicture frame and filled it with pictures of Shaelyn & I in her first year, so then I got one and did it of him and her. When we had Kaleigh, I bought 2 more frames that are the same. Last fall Ken put together the pics of me & Kaleigh. Yesterday I finally did the one of him and Kaleigh. :cool1: Its only 2 years overdue:lmao: , but it does look nice having them up on the wall. I've really found that it was much easier to do those things when we had one kid.

I think I've heard of that first book. I'll look for both this week. Thanks for posting those!

Yup, we did it right after dinner last night. I thought it would work out fine until I tried to put laundry away and can't open the 2 drawers closest to the wall because of the angle. That's something I had NOT thought of. So I'm cramming them in through a tiny opening until I have energy to move things again or to figure out where to move stuff. ;)

Gee, I'm gone all day and we're still on the same page?! Yikes!

Very busy but fun day, and now we're ready to stay home and relax. We went to church, where Tyler's former K teacher told me who she picked for his 1st grade teacher! :goodvibes I don't know any of the teachers there yet, but she gave a lot of thought about who to place him with. She picked somebody who is firm like her and just as structured as she is, so similar teaching style. She says she also has a similar personality, and she's explained to her all the techniques she used that worked with Tyler, just in case they're needed. She feels confident that he'll do very well with this teacher. :thumbsup2 I was so relieved to hear all the thought she put into this. And she selected a couple of his best buddies to be in the same class with him, including his "girlfriend" Celes! :cool1:

After that, we came home for lunch and finish up a load of laundry, then headed to the library for a while. Then straight from the library to the science museum (one of our favorite hangouts). Then to the grocery store where we picked out cupcake mix (Funfetti with chocolate Funfetti frosting) to make tonight or tomorrow morning since you all made me crave cupcakes! :rotfl2:

OK, off to fix dinner before Tyler falls asleep, which he's about to do. :scared1:
