OOOOHHHH, I didn't realize this was an issue for Molly as well. The Charles Armstrong School in Belmont specializes in Dyslexia. If you were interested in a good diagnosis I could easily call up there for the right professional. Are you getting it done with your school? We could talk about it if you want a top notch reference. People come all the way from San Jose, Oakland and San Rafael for their kids to go to that school. It's amazing.

She is not dyslexic, but the best that I can understand from my years of searching the net is that she is dypraxic (sp) She has fine and gross motor skill problems, which displays as a writing problem and a huge spelling dificet too. We have been working with her since 1st grade early intervention with reading. By 3rd grade she was reading off the charts, but the motor skills just never improved. I think I know of the place you are talking about in Belmont. When I first looked at them they had a waiting list to get in therapy that was many months long. I think that was back in 2nd grade. We ended up doing OT that year with a local provider. The next year we switched that to horse back riding (and stall work) to improve the gross muscle lack of strenght issues. Then the next year it was caligraphy lessons. She has always teasted off the charts for intelligence and so that means that she doesn't qualify for school help but because everyone likes her and she clearly had problems she had work with practioniers at school of course too.

Last year we thought we'd just see how she did and by the grace of a great 5th grade teacher she learned well, but didn't improve on the writing and her spelling is that of a 1st grader or below.

We can continue this on email. As you can see I have a mouthful of background over her school years of what we have tried.

Oh we saw that this past weekend....good movie! Tell them to get off the computer and go see the movie! or tell them i am in the orange room on webkins:lmao:
Oh there is an idea....we can all hijack our kids WK accounts and play those games against each other one night! :thumbsup2

she says that she can't get into the chat rooms do to modifications? whatever that meant....

Here is the final dress rehersal picture. It is so weird putting and seeing ones son in makeup ;) I'm heading out to drop them at practice for the night, I'll be back...

Nice job, Make-up Artist! Nice job. ::yes::

Jan :earsgirl:

What are Webkins?

Distant cousins of Mrs. B... Furry ones....

.
.
Is that on the Capital district TV stations? That is different from what I remember from the 1970's and 1980's. I am glad they have changed!

Jan :earsgirl:

Oh yeah... they are shiny happy people holding hands!!! :rotfl: Compared to the NY stations I grew up with... this is quaint and sweet...

Dennis wound up in Denver when he was flying from Louisville to LAX to get married! :bride: :confused3 He was supposed to change planes in Memphis or somewhere, but they did not tell him that so he stayed on the plane. The crew shut down the plane in Denver, turned off the lights, and were deboarding while he was still sitting in his seat. :rolleyes1 They stopped and asked him where he was headed and he said LAX, they said "not on this plane, Son!" OOPS! I was 17 years old, waiting at LAX for him, had seen him a total of 7 times and he did not show up! :scared1: And it was 2 am and I was alone. :sad2: He had no $$, but did have a check book and wrote a check for $12 to cover the additional fare from Denver to LA (he was military, in uniform and got very good rates in those days!). He also asked them to call LA, have me paged and tell me when he would be in. They did, but not for hours! It was past 5 am when I finally got word that he was on a 7am flight from Denver. The staff at LAX all gave me these pitying looks like I had been stood up, except for one janitor who sat with me (I was crying of course) and told me to just stay put, he new where I was and he would somehow contact me. I have been forever greatful to that kind man who helped me make the right decision!

And they lived happily ever after!!! :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

After finishing that book, I've decided it is my house that has a fat butt.

Mine is in the plus sizes... :rotfl:

they are small stuffed animals that have a alter web life...webkins.com check them out.

NO!!!!!!! Mrs. B doesn't want children!!!!!

thank heavens I was feeling like it was directed at us personally. I can live with a fat butt house no problem. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I have a fat butt house... my sister's house is anorexic... :rolleyes1

I would say see ya later gators but my kids have decided that they want to play webkins all day and not go to see the JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH...what is wrong with these kids :confused3

They're kids... it's summer and they want to drive you nuts!!!! :upsidedow

Oh... and Molly princess: ......

party: party: party: party: party: party: party: party: party: party: party: party:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
PRINCESS MOLLY!!!!!

And don't come up with all sorts of excuses!!;)

No nibbling!!!:lmao:

Sorry, have to go - just as you arrive!!!

If you look on the photo thread from last night, Martha(Ragdoll) is another Repo cruiser who didn't know about that photo. She might like to get the email from you re the photo.

She is having an ice cream sundae bar instead of cake

I'll mail you some of that in a zip lock, be careful what you wish for :scared1:

(michelle, mol hasn't seen your wishes yet, I'm sure she will reply promptly)

She opened her presents from us and is happy. She is working on getting the playroom ready for the sleepover, setting out the snack and such. She won't be able t greet her guests as they arrive, so we have to get it all done way before she leaves. The performance starts at 7:30pm, they have to be on set(stage?) at 6pm in full makeup and hair. Her guests arrive her ~ 6:30pm then we wander down to school (2 blocks) ~7pm to meet the rest of my family. Should be a fun night.

On a sad note, little brother is feeling a bit down today. It's hard for him when she has her bday parties. Since his bday is in the winter he never remembers that we have a nice party for him too. He is just a sensitive boy. :sad2:

Must go get some kind of break a leg(s) bouquet, not sure what to get the boy for this either???

Since all the parents or kids have something wrong, I was wondering if it were possible that they have a disorder where you hate to clean and would rather DIS all day.....while drinking sangria or champagne :rolleyes1 I don't mind cooking a gourmet meal but I don't want to clean up after. Does anyone know of a cure for this disease?

That is one long day and but it sounds like fun for Molly. I want a sleep over again, they were so fun. Tell Molly happy birthday and show Wilson some pictures from his last birthday!

I have many kids in all these categories in my practice. I am working with a company right now that is preparing a nutrional supplement for the Autism spectrum disorders (which includes sensory integration, ADD etc) and I am hoping that my clinic will become a trial location. I try and use alternative treatments rather than traditional prescriptions, but sometimes that is necessary as a starting spot before therapies and such can take effect and lessen the need for medications. I am really excited about the research they are finally doing into all these areas. There is so much frustration that can be avoided if we know exactly what we are dealing with and how to help them....rather than the guessing game that we have been playing for years........
Oh wow, please keep us updated if you do get to be a trial location. How exciting!

I would like to hear some of the alternatives. I have read a few books and my MIL is an OT so I'm really interested in the subject. Ethan had a fine motor skill problem, like writing and tying shoes and then the doctors took his tonsils out and his writing is great (he still doesn't tie his shoes tight enough) :confused3 I guess he had big tonsils and he wasn't sleeping well. I'm not sure what one thing has to do with the other but it worked. Maybe you could explain a little. Plus he has severe allergies and that also got better after the tonsils but he still has them. He also doesn't ride his bike but I think that is because he got hurt and won't try anymore but maybe not. He does really well in school, as far as grades but it is really hard to get him to do his homework and he doesn't do well with anything timed. The teachers think that kids outgrow that after third grade :confused3 There are so many opinions out there that it is hard to understand anything.

Wow, you've really been through lots of trying different things. It's so good that people at school are helping her too. Although I didn't meet her onboard, from all you say about her here, she sounds like such a happy, well adjusted kid, so it seems like this hasn't affected her self-esteem, and that's sooooooo good to hear!

I'm having trouble finding the right words to get this though across: What you said about her testing off the charts and being unable to qualify for help at school, that makes me soooo mad how schools do that. It seems that there shouldn't be such a general cut-off point, it should just be that any child who is struggling in any particular area should be able to receive help just in that particular area. At least I wish it were that way.

for anyone that cares:

I found Marr

She is at DL. She was suppose to board the Magic last Sunday but canceled and so she decided to go to DL. Her work canceled her cell number and that's why we can't get a hold of her.

Wow, how has she been? If you talk to her again, tell her I said hi! Sad to have to cancel a cruise, but exciting to go to DL, I'm sure! :goodvibes

Oh crap, I forgot to go to the pharmacy again today. Well, I dropped off Tyler's prescription yesterday but forgot to go back later and pick it up. He's got enough samples to last about a week and a half, but I don't want to keep forgetting, so I'd better go now while I'm thinking of it. Last time, I called in a refill for his steroid lotion for all his funky skin issues, and I NEVER remembered to pick it up! I asked about it yesterday and she told me it was put back on the shelf. Oops! I think they're going to give me both today, can't remember. Oh well......be back later!

Webkinz - is actually pretty cool online - our girls have them (Kaleigh can't really do by herself, so somebody has to help her. My SIL, MIL, and I also have them, and do play with them on line. It's not just for kids! (or I'm just a kid at heart:lmao: )

Carol - the story of waiting in the airport is so story-book-like!

Nan - Happy Birthday to Molly! I hope her & Wilson have a great opening night! Can you get Wilson a candy bouquet instead of real flowers?

Happy Birthday to Gretchen, too!

Kelly - Love the "Kids Who are Different" poem. I forwarded it to my girlfriend who is always stressing that her 2 boys are too wild (they're 5&3, full of energy, very smart, but not too wild)

I respect people that can balance both but I don't understand how they get it all done. I have to figure it out soon since I will be working a lot more once Brooke starts first grade. I'm a little scared that something will suffer or I will resent having to do it all.

You can do it! But it will mean changes for everybody! I'm learning to get my girls doing more for themselves.

You'll just be exhausted by 8pm every night, but won't be able to go to bed because you'll have to stay up late making cupcakes for the next day at school or something. ;)

who knows about cupcakes the night before? you find out you're supposed to bake cupcakes as you're making breakfast the day they need the cupcakes! :lmao:

I think we should have married VERY rich ;)
