Hi Nan......it's a good feeling to be all packed and ready to go! Now the fun begins! You're going to have a great time.

Hi All and Nan.....Just an update, AAA came today to tow John's truck to the repair shop. Hopefully they can get it done tomorrow and we'll see what it's going to cost. We took it locally to a place called Kost and they said the parts won't cost much but the labor for the truck is going to be expensive. C'est la vie!

We need to get it back as quickly as possible so that John doesn't have to keep walking up the driveway in the snow. It's killing him. It's so cold and such a hard walk up plus carrying necessities, groceries, etc. It's no fun. Even Tom had a hard walk up today being that it was so frigid outside. Just makes it worse. I'm stuck in the house until we get a vehicle that can go up and down. There's no way I can do it. Fun on the mountain in the winter!

Deb sorry for the difficulties right before the holiday.

My mother, who was very superstitious, would have called the truck a "kappurah" or a sacrifice. As my mother would have said, something bad was destined to happen to someone in the family, but instead the truck became the substitute instead of a person.

I don't know if it ever made me feel better, but I do find myself resorting to that thought when something bad happens to a thing in our house. I find myself thinking, well that was a "kappurah," at least it wasn't me or Sukie.

It still doesn't make it less crappy though!

We're having a heat wave!

It's going up to 27F today! That's 30 degrees warmer than it was on Sunday.

We are getting more snow today, between 2 and 4 inches.

We're getting snow again tomorrow. But it will continue to warm up.

-------------------

I am now so relaxed, I'm almost comatose. It is so quiet at work. I expect it to be even quieter today.

I announced for my team (that's just me and one of my pups) that tomorrow, will be a jeans day.

I feel so powerful.

Speaking of pups, my youngest, who is off work from the 19th through the 5th (I'm making him take his days so he doesn't lose vacation), phoned me yesterday at work.

A pipe burst in his kitchen and he had a few inches on floor and wanted to know what to do.

He was trying to mop it up with towels and it wasn't working, plus he was out of towels. I told him to go to Home Depot and get a cheap wet vac, to suck up the water a few gallons at a time so he could bail out.

I then went on the Home Depot site to tell him what models they had.

I told you all I've become a father at the age of 53.

Yoy're doing a great job with the fathering!!!:thumbsup2

ok, all packed. always a bit of work at the end. We made it with 4 suitcases and one garment bag, 2 carry ons, backpack for the boy and purse for me and mol, not bad. I'm hoping to have one of my nephews bring home a bag or two for us as to make it easier on the ship. I'm still worried about my mom getting around in our room with the luggage in the way. I might ask to see if they can store it for us. Our suitcases don't fit under the bed or in the closet, so the only place to leave them is on the wall as you walk past the bed and it's a tight walk.

We leave her at 8am tomorrow, might come by to say one last bye in the morning.

:flower3:

In case you stop by in the morning - have you tried leaving your suitcases open to put under the bed. Depending on how long they are when open you might only get 2 there but better than none :thumbsup2

Hi everyone - I've been keeping up but not posting much. We've been busy the past 2 weekends but have no plans for this weekend so I'm sure I'll be here a lot :thumbsup2

Safe travels to all during this holiday season!

Ian... does Sukie eat eggs??? Maybe this one is for you guys...

Vegetable Frittata
(Grand Floridian Cafe)

(1 serving)

3 whole eggs
1/4 cup diced tomato
1/4 cup zucchini diced
1/4 cup mushrooms diced
2 tblsp. onion diced
2 tblsp. chives chopped
2 tblsp. frozen spinach - chopped, thawed and drained.
2 tablespoons butter (or whatever you find to use...)
2 tablesp. parm cheese grated
2 slices tomatoe
2 think slices zucchini

In a medium size mixing bowl, beat eggs and fold in tomatoes zucchini, mushrooms, onion, chives and spinach.

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine in a 10 inch non-stick skillet or omelette pan and add egg mixture. Mix egg mixture in pain until partially set. When frittata begins to hold together, sprinkle with parm cheese and top with sliced tomato and zucchini. Continue cooking until eggs are done and garnis his warm.

Remove from pan and serve immediately.

Oh, my brother-in-law would LOVE this one (though I'd skip the zucchini). On of my friends also sent me the Crystal Palace breakfast lasagna receipe. I'll be going with one of the more high protein options as we're having veggie lasagna for dinner, though I think I might bring over a bit of sweet Italian sausage to have as a side ;) Hmmmmmm. maybe the fritatta idea would be best, as I could adjust ingrediants for each individual (mushrooms for me, zucchini for Jose). I could just be the 'omlette station chef'....only with a Santa hat!

Nan, have a wonderful and safe trip....hugs to the famiy! :grouphug:

Deborah, hope you survive work today (hope I do too)!

Deb, fingers crossed for speedy vehicle repair.

Michelle, thanks for the receipe above...it's started the wheels turning!

:grouphug: to all the rest of my pals....time to hit the shower.

We just returned from a 10-night cruise to the Mexican Riviera/Sea of Cortez, which was very relaxing. Our goal was just rest and relaxation.

There were six ports and we did not book a single excursion. At three ports -- Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas -- Mrs. Woody did not even get off the ship. (Been there, done that.) I went sightseeing in each of the port towns, and even saw the cliff divers in Mazatlan from the adjacent sidewalk.

While the Holland America "Ryndam" is NOT the Disney "Magic," it doesn't carry the Disney price tag either. Our cruise fare for 10 nights in an ocean view cabin (equivalent to Cat. 9) was $599 pp plus tax and port charges. We spend that much on airfare, hotel, and a rental car just to get to the Magic.

Some of the highlights on the Ryndam were fresh squeezed orange juice, a "made to order" eggs Benedict station at the buffet (with 5 or 6 samples on display, like at Palo), two omelette stations at the buffet, hand scooped ice cream (4 to 5 flavors that changed daily), culinary demonstrations with a real kitchen, a 3-room library with books galore (with over a dozen Mexico guide books alone), daily 3:00 pm tea, and a classical music quartet.

Woody

Glad you enjoyed your latest cruise Woody. Sounds like some nice touches on the Holland America Line. We talked to seasoned cruisers once at that was their favourite line.

GOOD MORNING!!!

Sorry that I've been MIA - my headache lasted until yesterday but still have twinges of it, so have the Tylenol ready.

Cherie -     Know you can call me anytime

Nan - I know you won't see this but have a good trip & sorry the kiddos aren't 100%. See you Thursday!

Ian - funny pic of you & the pups on the cruise. Glad this week seems less stressful for you. RE: the WW meeting and that guy - WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS??? YOU & the other 3 people were there on time. Working on a little surprise for you :rolleyes1

Deborah - sorry that work is so yucky--hopefully it will be better soon.

Marilyn - it's nice to be missed..thanks!

Woody - good to have you back. Glad you liked HAL. Would it still be 1 of the top 4 contenders for the Baltics? Did they give you any idea when their rates are going to be out??

Michelle - drive safely today & call if you need to

I wanted to say thank you to all of you that sent me cards & good wishes.

I think it's so interesting that so many of you chose pics from the cruise as your card....will work wonderfully in/for the scrapbook :thumbsup2

love to all!

Yeah ... what she said.

Actually, thank you all for the cards too. This is the first year we've received cards, aside from my insurance broker and financial advisor.

We've really gotten a kick out of the cards and photos.

Yoy're doing a great job with the fathering!!!:thumbsup2

It felt amazingly warm when I was waiting for the bus, even though it was only 15F.

Amazing how warm that can feel after -3F.

Right now it is snowing again. Sukie volunteered to shovel as I was leaving for work.

We have lived in this house for 17 years and he has only shoveled 3 times in all those years.

I'm not sure why he's being nice to me. There must be something afoot.

I would certainly consider HAL for the Baltics. Again, HAL is NOT DCL. But neither is the pricing.

The activities are geared for adults, such as the cooking demonstrations. On our 10-night cruise, there were 24 cooking demonstrations.

With 14 ships, HAL offers lots of itinerary options. Plus having a ship with a retractable roof over the main pool is a bonus.

Woody

Its another cool day, but the deep freeze is supposed to lift a little tomorrow. It was -29C (-20C) this morning and supposed to make it to -12C (10F) tomorrow but its supposed to be snowing windy and feel just as cold with the windchill.

Woody - thanks for sharing your thoughts on HAL. I think we're going to have to try another cruiseline. Something on the westcoast saves so much in travel costs just to get to the ship.

Break time is over, and its time to get back to work.

:grouphug: to all who need it!

Hi Lisa! Did you make your Christmas cards? I have a friend here who is a Stampin' Up consultant and she's always making cute cards too. :goodvibes

Ok, some quick Quiche things.
Quiche by its nature is a way of cleaning out the left overs. Almost anything can find its way in.
The basic formula is almost always the same. For each 9in. Pie shell (I always use the refrigerated ones from the store! I don’t bake well)

3 large eggs
1 ½ cups heavy cream (milk in a pinch or ½ & 1/2)
½ teaspoon chyanne pepper
Touch of nutmeg
A pinch of flour

Toss all of that into your blender or if you like the food processor and whip it up.
Some classic combinations for quiche are

Crumbled bacon & Swiss cheese (quiche Lorraine)
Broccoli florets and cheddar cheese
Chopped ham and cheese (any kind)
One of our favorites chopped spinach and feta cheese
The list goes on and on

Here's how

Let the pie shell warm a little maybe 5 to 10 min.
Layer you filling of choice into the empty shell leave a little room for the eggs (I always tend to over load the good stuff).
A quick whip of the wet ingredients at the last min. will keep the quiche a little lighter.
Pour in enough to cover the fillings but leave a ¼ inch of pie shell in view
Put it in a 350 to 375 degree oven for 30 to 40 min. or until the center is firm.
If you give the pan a little shake the center should not move. Now for the hard part …let it rest for 5 or 10 min. and serve.
