I mentioned THV to Sukie and he wants to stay at OKW again. I think he prefers the 2-bedroom lock-off and the knowledge that he can lock the adjoining door and have privacy.

I'm not too fussed. Last May we stayed in a 1-bedroom at OKW and were in building 45 (our request). It was so secluded and wonderful!

One morning we got up and went out on the balcony and saw a family of otters in the canal, mom, pop and 3 baby otters! To a city child like myself it was fantastic.

That does sound amazing!!! I'm so looking forward to it... :goodvibes

We stayed at the Howard Johnsons and liked it just fine. We did have a "premium" room which was not much more and worth it because it did not face the freeway with the noise.

Having been to DL my feeling is that is is definitely NOT worth the extra money to stay at at DL resort. I really think there's no point to it, not like it is in WDW. I wouldn't even waste DVC points by staying at a DL resort.

Don't get me wrong, GC is very nice, just not worth the money in my opinion. It is not immersive like it is at WDW.

When we go again we will stay at one of the hotels on the hotel strip. Even now that there part of the GC has been converted into a DVC resort, I still wouldn't stay there.

Agreed 100%. We've stayed the DL Hotel once and although it was nice and pretty, there just wasn't enough to it to justify the expense. And there is the fact that it is actually a LONGER walk into the park than if you stay along the strip.

We've stayed at the Park Place Inn Best Western right across the street and it was nice (shortest walk you can get but you have to book early!!). We've also stayed at the Park Vue Inn. It was right next door to the Park Place Inn and was fine (remember none of these are going to be the Grand Floridian but they are a bed and generally clean) the key one for us here was the Cold Stone Creamery located on the premises. It was nice coming back to the hotel and having an ice cream before bed. We've also stayed at the Castle Inn and suites. It is a bit further of a walk (probably equal to staying at the DL Hotel) and I was a little disappointed they didn't put the theme throughout the hotel. But again it was sufficient for our purposes.

For our trip in 2011 we will probably try for the Park Place or Park Vue Inns. You can't get any closer to the parks.

& Ken... & Ian...

IF I do stay at the GC... it's because the QUEEN MUM likes it!!!!

& you're going to tell me she doesn't deserve it????

So there... :snooty: :snooty: :snooty:

Ian, perhaps you can help. Do you recommend staying at the GCH, or should we go with a hotel on the strip??? I didn't quite catch your drift there.

Marilyn - since I'm not quite sure if you're kidding or not, I will give you an ernest reply. Using points is a waste and brings little to no benefit. Book a hotel on the strip.

Don't worry Kaz... you and I can be GC snobs :snooty::snooty: and invite all those ingrates to a pool party... :cheer2:
I am so with you, Shell!! :snooty: I honestly don't know what they're talking about - I walked through the hotel lobby to CA and the wine tasting attraction in less than 5 minutes!!! Now that's a result!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Besides... Mom's gonna be almost 79 that vacation... and while she is doing VERY well.. she doesn't like to do the parks the same way anymore...

If she wants to go sit by the pool with a good book and a nice fruity drink... I'll feel much safer with her at the GC than at some other hotel... Just me, though...

She did like the CG though... but the beds are high... seems to be a theme at the deluxe hotels... I'll have to either get her a step stool or a nice hulky guy to help her into bed...

Although Sukie will be jealous... :rolleyes1

Yep!

She was kidding. I karentee it... :rolleyes1

Me thinks I have beaten Ian with that one!!

To strip or not to strip, that is the question!

As it happens we won't be able to afford the GC, or the other onsite hotels next January, so the strip it is!!!

I've checked the DVC points and we'll be staying in a studio for the 1st night and a 1 bed for the remaining 4 nights - cannot wait to book... :yay:
