...I keep calling my uncle on Long Island...the one that is like my dad to me....my mom's brother....and no answer. His son told me that he was back in the hospital again. We're going to see him and all the other cousins on Dec 26 and 27. I hope he's home by then otherwise I'll go to the hospital to see him. I don't know what's wrong with him this time. My cousin didn't tell me in his email. I'll have to call the hospital and try to talk to him.

Let's hope that your Uncle Frank and my Uncle Teddy are both going to be ok. This is not the sort of thing that you want to have happen especially at this time of year. It's ironic that your Dad's one year anniversary is now too.:hug::hug::hug::hug:

Some hugs for you too, lovely lady...

Hey Deb, I just wanted to tell you that I've had the gorgeous Star of Bethlehem hanging on the window going up the stairs since September. However, it seemed appropriate to put it on our living Christmas tree in the sitting room - and it looks gorgeous...

Just back from our shopping excursion, and we have to head out again, first we want to visit the local Christmas village and tent that has been set up in Lincoln Square and we also have to go to the supermarket. We never made it to the supermarket, only the green grocer. Of course there's a saga involved.

Sukie wanted a hat, so we decided to stop at a department store Carson, Pirie, Scott. We were out early, so unknown to us, they apparently had some "door buster" sales, 60% off.

OK, so he got a hat and I got a hat, because I need something a bit more professional looking than my Grumpy joker hat in light of the probability of needing to go to NY on a fairly frequent basis for meetings.

We bought some other winter stuff, all at 60% off. I start to pay and the sales clerk asks me if I want to open a store charge card and get another 20%. I abhor credit cards, but given that I'd save another $24 bucks I decide to do it. We are now going to get 20% off all day. So far so good.

We needed sheets and towels, and they had some great sales so we get some of those too. The sales lady sees my temporary store charge card and says, "Oh, they didn't give you the coupon for 25% off your purchases today too?" I say no, so she gives me the coupon and then takes my receipt from the men's department and proceeds to apply it to our men's department purchases. So now I get another 25% that, and 20% off and 25% our linens and towels.

We end up in kitchenware where there's 60% off some stuff we needed and got that too, plus another 20% and another 25%. We finally exhausted ourselves in the men's shoe department where I ended up buying a pair of shoes for work, which I needed, Clark's also on sale and then the 20% and 25% off.

Each receipt had the savings amount from the original 60% off and then the 20% and 25%.

I got back to the car and saw that in all we had saved about $525.

Ironically, everything we bought were things that we needed buy had been delaying making purchases until after the holidays.

Also ironic is that all we originally came into the store for was a woolen hat.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

What a great shopping day! I could use a little help from a pro with my shopping list!

I am very sorry. How are you holding up?

Tammy, it's so nice to see you here again  How are you doing? How are the kids? When are you sailing next?

I've had a rough day, worked all day then went to see my brother's apartment and things :sad2::sad1::sad1: Don't even know how to deal with what I've seen at the moment :sad1:

Christmas is in full swing in Lincoln Square what with the German ChristmasKindle Market that's going on.

Sukie and I ventured out yesterday afternoon to the big tent set up in the city parking lot near our L stop.

In the afternoon we were out with our video camera, so there may be a video of the yuletide video of the village in which Eastwood Manor is located.

It was even more intense when we went out last night. Choir sounds coming from the tent. There was a brass quintet on a corner playing carols on a street corner. The fountain in the square covered with evergreen leaves and Christmas lights, a Christmas tree in the square. There were also holiday ice sculptures dotting the street, so it was fortunate that the temperature was below freezing.

The streets were PACKED with holiday shoppers and visitors. It looked like a Hallmark Christmas card. Picture a Christmas TV movie with an old fashioned town's Main Street decorated for Christmas and store windows decorated and ablaze with lights.

What particularly struck us was the number of visitors to the neighborhood. Parking must have been a nightmare.

I guess credit goes to our alderman and the local mechant's association who have seemed to be successful in making Lincoln Square a holiday shopping destination.

It was so cutesy I could puke.

Now I know how people must feel who live in twee English villages who have tourists descend on them with regularity.

Good Morning everyone....it's football day in America. The Raiders are playing the Steelers at 1:00 pm and the Giants are playing the Cowboys at 4:00 pm. Both of my teams will lose today. Oh well. There's always next week. I'll still watch and cheer for them.:confused3:confused::confused3:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Ian, put your seasonal sick bag away!!! It sounds a fabulous festive fiesta - exactly the sort of thing I would love to visit. I meant to go with Sophie to the Christmas market in Bruges this December but time got away from us - sorry Santa. Personally, I love a bit of Ho Ho Hokum and look forward to seeing the video. :santa:

However, having lived/worked in Oxford, I remember that having tourists underfoot can be a complete nightmare!!! And don't get me started on the perils of trying to hurry along a Parisian thoroughfare littered with happy snappy masses when you're late to pick up your young son from nursery school!!! :headache:

Fortunately the place we live now is only noteworthy for being the youthful homes of both David Bowie and Enid Blyton - the Laughing Gnome meets Noddy...

Beautiful Kaz and so very appropriate for the occasion.

Thanks for the pic and the hugs.

I will, Ian! I've found that they do ship internationally so will definitely be ordering. I live in PJs so these are perfect... :thumbsup2

I love this saga! And never lose sight of one thing, that it was all started by a hat...

I've become so I won't buy anything unless I get a discount. Except Disney cruises and purses, of course... ;)

Fah-bu-lous!!! :goodvibes I love it so much it's now my desktop pic...

You are just way too funny making Sukie your wallpaper. I have to admit, it does have a certain appeal to it doesn't it. Such a charmer.:angel::angel:

Don't pass judgement. He could have been so sick in the end that he just couldn't keep up with it. Forgive him and know that he's in a better place.

Hugs to you for having to clear out the place all by yourself. You really should get your other brother to try and help you. If not, how about Brian or Sara? Try not to do it alone.

Bethlehem has a Chriskindlemart every year too....but it doesn't sound nearly as nice as Lincoln Square. Did you take any pictures? I would love to see some shots. hint hint.

So we have robots competing against persons with a pituitary growth disorder?

So sorry to hear this Michelle. Prayers and Pixie Dust for Uncle Frank.

I know exactly how you feel though. I keep calling my uncle on Long Island...the one that is like my dad to me....my mom's brother....and no answer. His son told me that he was back in the hospital again. We're going to see him and all the other cousins on Dec 26 and 27. I hope he's home by then otherwise I'll go to the hospital to see him. Mine is hanging in our laundry room. While that might sound not so good, it is the best window to get the sunshine in our house facing the east. I will also take your lead and move it to the top of our tree for the season :thumbsup2 Paul and Willie brought it in today (the $15 tree delivered around the neighborhood for the lawns, we got an extra to be lazy in shopping and cheap too :rotfl2: The tree is nice enough. Today the kids are headed to the mall for our annual Santa picture. I'll scan and post them later, wish me luck not sure what I'll figure them to wear this year :rolleyes1

Yes, we have pirates against robots and then later horseriders against persons with pituitary growth disorders. That's correct.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hi Nana, thanks for the good health wishes for my uncle.

I can't wait to see this year's Christmas pictures. I'm sure whatever they wear, they'll look great. Have fun decorating the tree.

Ok... Prayers and Pixie Dust Please....

We just got a call from my Aunt Winnie...

My Uncle Frank (my father's brother) is in the hospital. He's 82 and getting frail - they don't know what is wrong with him but he got sick yesterday and they are running tests...

It's just so strange because Friday is the 1 year anniversary of my dad's death... I just hope we don't lose him now too...

Uncle Frank was more of a father to me than my own dad... treated me like I was one of his own, and I always told him that if I didn't have him, I wouldn't have anything to believe in from that side of the family.

Send you pixiedust: oh no I am sorry to heard that news and hope he is keeping well....

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.....

Here's a shot looking over to the corn field....it was harvested last weekend. Good thing. John's truck is parked in the opening. This is John's diamonds or better known as THE BEAST. Naturally the plow is not attached and it's snowing. But there's not enough to clean up yet....we need at least 6-12 inches before we can plow.
