Thanks Mon. I'm booking it at the end of the month. One less thing to do later. I can always cancel or change if need be. I'll keep looking too.

btw Ian, nice location. I'm going to love exploring your neighborhood. I have never been to Chicago either. I can't wait.

Hi Cheri too. We can always drive the car into the neighborhood from where we're staying and then park in a garage while we El it. That's what we do in NYC....but we catch cabs. My straphanger days are over.

Hi Deb! Ian's neighborhood is really cool! I spent a lot of time exploring there!

Kayak is showing The Hard Rock Cafe on Michigan Avenue for $99 a night. I could do that. We would already be in town and near Ian and Sukie...it says it's 3 miles from Lincoln Square. I would love to stay there. Ian is it 3 miles or so to your house? I have to assume that it's in a nice area. Tell me more please.

Deb - have you heard from Sue Ellen??

Not at all! Nothing. I wrote to her at 12:15 pm....it's 6 hours so I don't think I'll hear from her today. Guess there's always tomorrow.

I'll let you know immediately when I do.

...With all that having been said, it means that me and John will be available to do Eastwood Manor for Turkey Day in 2010....We'll be available to travel to Chicago. YEAH!!! So who else will be joining us? Jackie? Nan? Monica? Cheri? The more the merrier.
Asked Richard what he thought over dinner tonight about popping across the pond to Chicago for Thanksgiving 2010 and he said "why not!!!???" So, if it's OK with our esteemed hosts, looks like we could be in too!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: I've never been to Chicago (R has, but only on business) so am looking forward to it already... I'm nothing without a trip (or 50) to plan... ;)

I think the largest Thanksgiving dinner we've had was for 14 people. 2010 looks like it's going to be one of those.
And some!!!! ::yes:: My only worry is will your bird be big enough???!!!

All my Disney ornaments and decorations came today. OMG that skirt for under the tree is so beautiful. I'll have to get a close up picture of it. I went with the Mickey tree topper. Me and John both picked that one and it matches the skirt. Besides, I already have the Tink one. I like it and the ornaments. I can't wait to do my tree this year.:goodvibes:goodvibes

I had an order arrive from the US Disney Store the other day - some lovely baubles and now I cannot wait to get my trees out!!! This year I'm having a Disney one in the hall and a clear glass and red one in the living room...:santa:

And now I'm so tired, I need my bed... We went to a concert tonight - I don't know if you guys are familiar with AHa (Take On Me was their big hit in the 80's)...? Anyway I danced, shrieked and sang myself hoarse during the 2 hours they were on stage so need to recuperate...

Goodnight... xxx

When are you leaving Jackie? I wish I could go with you. :sad1::sad1::sad1::sad1:

Have a great time and you know about the pictures. Well, Cheri will be with you so no problem.

JACKIE It is kinda exspensive, but its family style all you can eat. So if you can polish off some ribs, its worth it. Have you been there yet? Its all good, chicken, ribs , slaw , beans and cornbread. Drinks and dessert are extra. See ya real soon!!!

We leave Friday about 12:30PM.

Cheri, Bubba, Venetia I booked Big Thunder Ranch for 2:30PM late lunch $20 per person plus tax and tip. Think I'll wait and do dessert at the Golden Horseshoe. Cheri, maybe we should try for the 4PM show, so we can just go there after lunch...get all the 'country' stuff over at one time! :lmao:

If I wasn't at work, I could post a picture of the view from 'MY' Chicago hotel!

Deb, the Hard Rock is all the way in downtown Chicago....the Best Western is a better location for proximity, though I am not famaliar with the hotel itself. If you go to their site and click on the google map and scroll it down a tiny bit you will see Belmont....Belmont and Sheridan (on the lake) is where I'll be!

Thanks for all the great info Jackie. Is Belmont and Sheridan a Best Western? Is it close enough to where we want to be? If you're staying there. I want to check it out and try to stay there too. I'll have to look for it. Thanks.

Oh, I can't wait to see the tree too all decked out in Mickey. What a fun Christmas this will be.

You're so funny....going hoarse at a concert...reliving your youth no doubt. Glad it was fun.

OK so what area is the nicest closest hotels?

Your best deals are probably going to be out around O'Hare where you've been looking. I looked at downtown and can't believe the prices, especially for parking. Getting to our house is easy enough from there. Getting downtown there'll be the option of driving, or driving to our house, parking, and hopping on the L with us. Cheri is the queen of Chicago public transportation!

IAN! How far is the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace from you? 3434 N Broadway Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, 60657

Not far at all. That's in Lakeview, a short cab ride, or a walk to the L at the Belmont stop. Then 6 stops to the Western L station on the Brown Line.

Is the Hard Rock really only $99 a night? A great place and location. It's in the River North area. Very nice! I'm surprised it's that low. My business dinner tonight was only 2 blocks away from there ( I'm on the L now). It would be very nice to stay there. Eastwood manor would still be fairly easy to get to via cab or L.

Monica, I forwarded you Sue Ellen's email.

Ian, most rooms at the Hard Rock were over $200/night. Kayak had one going for $99. I guess you gotta grab the specials when you see them. I hope it's still available for that price when I can book at the end of the month.

Sukie said it would be wonderful if you could be here for the holiday, but only if you bring THE purse.

You know, you and Richard would win the prize for who travelled the furthest. Our friend Martin usually does, but he comes from Cambridge, which is west of London and therefore just a little bit closer.
