Update on Sukie.

No surgery today. Listening to his abdomen on there's been some developments that are causing them to wait to because surgery may not be needed. He's on antibiotic drips and that may have helped. The intestinal block may be infection related.

They now have him on a liquid diet. Of course there is drama about the liquid diet, because some of the staff speak questionable English. However he is eating some of what he's been given.

He's also a bit irritated with his roommate's family. They seem like nice people but are under the delusion that the hospital room is a clown car and are trying to see how many people they can cram into the room. They have very loud conversations, frequently involving the phone on speaker so everyone is shouting and the people on the phone are shouting.

I think his favorite part of today was when people crammed into the room for a prayer meeting. The only thing that might have made the event even more complete for him was if they started passing back and forth sausage rolls over his bed.

I would have preferred if he was in the hospital that our doctor is associated with because it's one of the best in the Chicago area, but unfortunately it was just too far away given the state he was in last night.

However he's very pleased with the staff and the quality of the care he's getting.

He's in very good spirits. I'm exhausted and not going back tonight. I didn't sleep last night and it's snowing now and I really don't want to be driving in the snow when I'm this tired, even though the hospital is not far away.

I guess we'll see how he is tomorrow. Right now I'm preparing to spend New Year's Eve in the hospital.

:scared1: Ian, not the kind of drama you and Sukie need in your lives! I'm so sorry Sukie has been feeling poorly  Hugs to you too, hope you managed to get some rest:hug: I'm glad things seem a wee bit better today though. Prayers and hugs for a speedy recovery.

Gydell, thanks for the Christmas card :thumbsup2

Gaylean, so good to see you here again

V, congrats on the new job, very exciting :cool1:

Deb, hope the new drugs have you feeling better in no time

JOHN

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

:cake::drinking1:bday:party::rockband:party::bday::drinking1:cake:

Hi Friends....I've been looped out on vicodin a lot lately....because of my ear not my leg. I went to two doctors today....for the leg and then for the ear. I have cellulitis in my ear....no wonder it hurts so much and is not getting any better with drops and an antibiotic. The leg is not getting any better either. So now I'm on super drugs....eardrops and antibiotic. Hopefully this will help both the ear and the leg.

Needless to say, I won't be getting in the pool onboard the Wonder in a week. John and I were going to do the lazy river at Atlantis on his birthday. Well that's a wash because I can't go in the water. So we changed our excursion. We're going to the Greycliff Hotel Wine and Cheese Pairing instead.

Speaking of John's birthday.....we had cake tonight and he opened his present. I'll let him tell you his thoughts about it.

Ian.....HUGS to you and Sukie. Let us know how he is doing. You take care of yourself too. Many positive thoughts, prayers, pixie dust and LOVE to both of you.

V.....WAY TO GO GIRLFRIEND!!!!! The Controller. AWESOME!!!! Congrats on doing a special anniversary cruise too. You're going to have a blast. This one will be great!!! You have a lot to celebrate in 2010!!

Marilyn.....you are so very welcome and deserving my friend.

Marilyn, Michelle and Monica.....I hope you're all feeling better.

Hi G, Hi Deborah, Hi Gydell, Hi Shannon, Hi Bubba, Hi Kathe, Hi Jackie, Hi Nana.....I miss you all.

I've been in so much pain between the leg and the ear that I just take meds and sleep a lot. Hopefully it will get better now that I have been to two doctors today.

So sorry that you have been so under the weather... I feel so much for you... hopefully it will get better in time for the cruise... & by the way...it's just water... it'll be there when you get better...

Oh... and I've heard that the Greycliff is THE place to be in the Bahamas... :goodvibes :goodvibes Good choice...

Glad to hear that Sukie's getting better. I'm sure all the prayers and pixie dust is helping. Take care of you too!!! We love you both!!! :grouphug: :grouphug:

(& btw... did you get my text?)

What a relief that no surgery is needed yet. Let's hope that it's not necessary at all and that Sukie feels well enough to keep complaining about the neighbors....that's a good sign.

Thank you for keeping us up to date. Give Sukie our hugs and love.

Good thing you're staying in tonight. Don't drive in the snow when you're tired. Tomorrow will be better.

Just so you know....I gave John one hint about his birthday present, which he opened tonight....I had help picking it out.....that was his hint. He unwrapped the paper and saw the picture on the box and said THANK YOU IAN. He knew who helped me when he saw the picture. He got a big grin on his face and he danced down the hall when he got up. I think he likes it A LOT!!! Thank you Ian.

so tell John we expect a zillion pictures with his new camera!!!

& V... I always miss you...

Well...

I've slept alot since mom got home. it's getting better, but boy... this one got a hold on me... Still not eating regularly... just not up to it yet. Bagels and tea are my mainstay when I'm not up to it.

Staying home tomorrow... Someday I'll make it to First Night up in Saratoga... but not this year. We are expecting snow... however it won't be as much as they had thought earlier in the week... We got "UP" from Netflix and will order a pizza from Carms. Schenectady is having fireworks which we can watch from my office window. (warmer that way...)

Well.. time to go dive back into some Vicks vaporub... :goodvibes

It's Deb's John... she surprised him with an upgrade to a Cat 3 on a cruise they are taking on the Wonder in about a week and a half... :goodvibes

Deb, hope those meds work pretty quickly for you. Get that leg right for your next cruises and then you can swim again.

Ian. So glad it looks like no surgery for Sukie. Hopefully he should soon recover now. I sympathise with him about the noise etc of others in hospital being very annoying. Not what you want when you are feeling poorly. I put my ear plugs in during the day on more than one occasion to escape.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN

So Deb, has he started to play with the camera? Has he taken any photos? Does he like the camera?

Welcome to New Year's Eve!

Sukie called me this morning and told him that the surgery is definitely cancelled and now he's on solid foods, because apparently his intestinal track is returning to working order.

I'm expecting that they will discharge him this morning, so I'm not going for a visit. Just waiting for the call to pick him hp.

This has all be a HUGE relief. I was extremely worried about the surgery.

The doctor said that this is the 5th case he's seen of something that looked like an intestinal blockage but was an infection (though the part I don't understand is that Sukie had no fever).

I guess there must be a bug going around, at least in some geographic radius since the commonality is the geographic proximity to this hospital.

So, it looks like we're going to have New Year's Eve at home!

Oh, I made the decision to leave my farms etc. I'm so grateful for your work in holding back Holly though!!!!! :thumbsup2 She can now run wild.:lmao:
:lmao:Thanks Marilyn, I'm off and running again! ;)

Glad you're feeling a bit better.

pickles and ice cream lol me dafties with white chocolate with first pregnant:headache:

anyway You know Sylvia...

Well I got her email this morning

"Oh and do you remember when I tripped outside the Rockafeller Centre. I think it was the Frid 27th or was it sat 28th oh I can't remember lol. Well anyway my foot was still sore and thats a month on. So I decided to get one of the Orthopaedic doctors to look at it and she put me to get it x-rayed. Guess what its broken lol I have been walking on a broken foot for over a month. I have been signed off my work for two weeks and I have to get a plaster cast on it today. Oh my god what a shock. But hey at least I am off over new year now woo hoo. So hopefully I will be right as rain"

I never knew that as I missed it when that happened and girls managed to got her... then she said her foot was sore and bruise.....Typical as she is nurse....

Lucky her off in new year and treat her boyfriend to do things for her:laughing:

My friend said she should sue New York then we all come back

Scottishwee35
Oh my gosh, amazing she didn't know it was broken! Hope she heals quickly and enjoys her time off work. :goodvibes

Hello. I just got Ken and Shannon's Christmas card so it reminded me to come on here and tell you guys what a loser I am. I forgot to send the cards. I have them so they'll be late. I ordered them a couple of days before Christmas and then got caught up in other things.

How was everyone's Christmas and Hanukkah? We had a great time. Now we are deciding what to do for NYE. We will be married for 13 years this year. We feel extra pressure to do something fun since it's our anniversary or maybe it's just me needing to be crazy!

Brooke needs my help so I'll be back
Well, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!! I hope you do something special! :yay:

So I'm back. We had Jon's family over for prime rib on Christmas and went to my sister's on Christmas Eve. The kids have so many presents it is crazy. They are all over the floor. They got this huge ball that they can get into and roll around in. I want to get in there so bad but it is a 150 weight limit and, since I haven't weighed myself for awhile, I'm assuming I weigh too much :upsidedow
Oh, how I'd love to see 150 again!

The ball sounds very cool! :goodvibes

Happy Birthday John!
