Good Morning All!

I was up rather late last night. I didn't get to bed until 12:30 AM! I then passed out.

The service last night was great. Firstly, it was nice to go to a service. I hadn't been in a while. I realized, yet again, how much I enjoy them.

The speakers from Equality Illinois were incredible. They were inspiring speakers and the congregation enjoyed them.

They focused on partnership equality, prop 8 and what is happening in Illinois.

One of the speakers talked about the need for legal recognition, talking about one of our state representatives who had been with his partner for over 30 years. His partner was in intensive care and the hospital would not let him in to see him because he wasn't family. He told them that he had a medical power of attorney. They told him to go get it and show it to them. He had to go home to get the power of attorney and by the time he made it back to the hospital, his partner of over 30 years had died, alone.

Could you imagine if your spouse were dying and you were asked to go get your marriage license to prove that you're really married?

They also talked about what is going on in Illinois which is quite remarkable, and I have to admit that neither Sukie or I were aware of it. The wonderful thing is that the legal approach going through the channels now is so remarkably simple, sensible and so darn, well, Midwestern in it's common sense. It really takes a drastically different approach than states on either the east or west coasts.

There is a social hour after the service, that we stayed for, as did the speakers.

A funny thing is that Sukie gets along so well with the Rabbi. He calls the Rabbi "Bunny" ... get it? Bunny rabbit? He addresses the Rabbi as "Bunny."

Sukie told him a story about last spring when Sukie's mother died, and Sukie was trying to think of what a spiritual person would do, and then thought, "What would Bunny do?"

Bunny also has a great sense of humor.

Is that a bathroom? Where is that?

Facing the castle -take the right path towards the tea cups - bathrooms are on the left. there is a statue of the white rabbit outside.

Connie, thanks for making such a wonderful invitation to all of us  This sounds like so much fun. We'll have to wait for Marilyn and John to get back from vacation to see what they think? Unfortunately, I will not have a car and don't want to impose on anyone. How far away from disney are you?

Kathe

Kathe, we can easily pick you up (and drop you back) at your resort if everyone else is up for this idea :thumbsup2

But this is one I can buy because it has a back seat for Tyler! And if they ever sell it in the U.S., it's only $2,500.00 (if they keep the price the same). I love the Smart car, but I need a back seat.

I saw a video on Yahoo last night - these cars will never be sold in the US without major changes - they have NO SAFETY Equipment. The backseat doesn't even have seatbelts. And the passengers in the backseat are sitting on the engine. They described them as a sheet metal box with no reinforcement. Also no ABS.

One more thing, the Rabbi, did talk about the economic situation in the country, and reminded the congregation that it is during bad economic times, people become most susceptible to fear mongers and scape-goating.

History has taught us that masses of people can be whipped up through fear and it becomes convenient to find a group to "blame" for the troubles.

I had heard something similar on Public Radio.

They did take their cue from the Smart Car, which is rather tiny.

That was a big concern when I bought the Smart.

Mercedez did spend a lot on engineering the Smart for safety and the safety cage, and it's one of the safest cars in the micro-car class.

Re: Law School

 O Holly
You have finished a lot of classes. These give better insight into the office where you work and enable you to do a better job there.

And, you have a much more important job now--to be Tyler,s Advocate in the world!! What could be more important?

Your Mom is wrong.

First of all, Jan ... Have I ever told you how wonderful and kind you are? Kindness is such a rarity in our modern world, and you continuously exemplify it.

Holly - your posting struck quite a raw nerve for me, and your mother's reaction. I am shocked at what parents say to their children.

I know first hand, because of my relationship with my father, for whom I was pretty much a continuous disappointment, starting in 1962 when I was 7 years old, and showed no interest in baseball. Our relationship slid downhill from there. As I was always the failure and not as good as my brother. My brother's death did not help matters.

Holly - you never know what the future will bring. You never know what you haven't done yet that you will do, and you never know who you have met yet, who you will meet.

Everyday for us is just a moment in time. It hangs there as a moment on to itself, and the extraordinary thing is what the next moment may hold. And it is extraordinary, because of your relationship with Tyler and how you are using your energy to help him forge his moments.

I think it's all about opening ourselves up to possibilities. It's all about taking opportunities to reinvent ourselves.

I chose to just stop listening to my father, and get on with my life. I realized that the issue was his and not mine (not that it didn't wound me, it did).

So, ignore what your mom said. Who knows what wonderful things lay ahead in store, and wonderful opportunities. I really think that the key is opening the door to possibilities.
Wow. Thanks Ian, very wise words.

I'm laughing at Sukie here! But seriously, I'm glad the service went well and it sounds like it was very informative for everybody who attended. Hopefully it opened lots of eyes and will cause people to look at things with a different perspective. How sad about the man whose partner of 30 years died alone. I hope he sues the hospital. That's awful! Just think Ian, you're the one responsible for bringing issues to the attention of people who might never have been aware. You're responsible for educating lots of people last night! Great job!

Well we're off to DL to meet the birthday boy. I hope he is there because he is MIA right now. Sleeping in, I hope. I thought for sure I'd find him here.

Well, I'm off on an errand. Wasted 1/2 my day because I felt like sleeping in, didn't get up until close to 1pm. Felt wonderful though! :goodvibes Especially since tomorrow will be a long day, lots of driving to get to and from Disney on Ice. Not looking forward to that part.

Back later!

I am still sore and on meds. I have been using ice and that has helped a lot.

Anyone playing www.mycoke.com. I just won again....that makes $80.

Holly did you play today?

Wow, that's great, another $20! :cool1: No, I haven't played today. Will soon. :thumbsup2

Sorry you're sore, but today is one more day closer to feeling better.

No win for me today with Coke. Thanks for the reminder to play today Lisa! :goodvibes

I didn't end up getting the errands done that I went out for. Instead, I got sucked in by giant magnet inside the Chinese take-out place. :rotfl2: Yum!

So many are gone this weekend. The group at DL, Nan off scrapping (but at least she can pop in sometimes), and Marilyn.

Deb, where are you today? Doing your 6 hours lying down?

Deborah, I don't think you told us about how things went when you had some friends over (a girls night?). Pictures to share?

Michelle, are you sleeping?

First off... we have an INCREDIBLE amount of wonderful people here... :grouphug: I am amazed that people I hadn't even met a year ago have become such good friends and that we support each other in ways that not even family could. I am truly amazed.

and Ian... I hear you on the getting on with things... I am facing it right now - for some reason I've lived most of my life trying to get the approval of my siblings (and my father before that...) and it has for the most part failed miserably... they look at me as the worthless youngest child and I could cure cancer and they wouldn't be impressed...

I'm on the verge, because of the project I'm working on, of becoming a very successful person. And I know that they will never believe all the work I've done or accept that I have made a success out of my life.

I talked it over with Em last week and she told me I have to go and live my own life. They will be unhappy and they will judge and they will think I am wreckless and irresponsible, but my main concerns now will be settling down here in the house, traveling a bit with mom, working on my project and taking care of mom. I have to learn to not listen or care about what they think...

Wow... that sounds like you had a very good event. I'm proud of you for putting it together. I think ignorance is what makes people make bad decisions. I could never be that way. I'm glad you were able to help others understand what it is all about...

& I LOVE Sukie's Bunny... :goodvibes

In real life it's called a BICYCLE

I think alot of people forgot for about 10 years... We forget that we are a better country when we stick together and not rip each other apart.

I had heard something similar on Public Radio.

Glad the ice is working... just remember that each day it will get a little better...

How cute! Where did you find that?!

Lisa.. when you get a chance, I know you explained it before... but I can't find it and I just want to know how to play... thanks...
I think on Thursday evening did a detailed explanation for Jan. I'm pretty sure it was on Thursday, might have been Wednesday though. I'll try to find it if Lisa doesn't post info.

I'll try! Go to www.mycoke.com, and in the upper right corner it should say "Register now". Click on that.

After you've registered your e-mail address, go back to www.mycoke.com and log in (upper right corner again).

On the next screen click on "Twist text get". On the bottom of the next screen, towards the right side, there's a partial red bottle cap. Click on that and it brings up the official rules.

Scroll down to rule 5b and click where it says "click here" in red letters in that paragraph. Next, a box will pop up telling you what your code is. Type the code that you see, it's case sensitive, and click "Continue". If you win, the next screen will say you won and to check your e-mail. If you didn't win, it will say thanks for playing, check your e-mail.

Here they are - I've been meaning to play too.

Just did my 2 for the day and didn't win on either try.
