loved the tour Ian. I thought about how I could do that for here and thought again...boring...there is something special about living in the heart of a walking city. everything for us is a drive. except going to Molly's school 2 blocks or the park 4 blocks, but even that we drive to them most of the time.

When we were in Acapulco walking around I mentioned that I LOVE city vacations. I think Scott replied, yes the street polution, grime, crowds....yup I love it!!!! I see the city as the perfect vacation, but I don't think I would want to live there all the time. love my privateness of the suburbs, and if and when we hit the beach hopefully I'll love not seeing a neighbor out my windows...

There is something about living out in the country.

That's part of the reason we like staying at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge so much.

I would love to have a country house.

I don't think there's a soft serve place in the neighborhood ... come to think of it, soft serve is just not very popular in Chicago.

It's popular in Wisconsin ... frozen custard. There's a great place up there called Custard's Last Stand.

One of our favorite ice cream parlors is not in our neighborhood, but is in another neighborhood, Bucktown (on the Blue Line), which is about 10 minutes away by car. It is Margie's Candies and has been there since the 1920's and has never been remodeled since about 1935.

Margie had been working there until about 10 years ago or so, when she passed on to that great ice cream parlor in the sky. Her son, George now runs it, and let me tell you, George is no spring chicken. Margie was still working there into her mid nineties.

But is is a Chicago institution and someplace we take visitors.

We just force ourselves to have a chocolate turtle sundae. Just to be polite you understand:

Oh... I think i can suffer through THAT one!!! :rotfl:

you know I went and checked out that ice cream link....says you get a free waffle cone for straight A report card.....

YUP!!!

MOLLY GOT STRAIGHT A's this trimester  Proud Mama :lovestruc

Does she share???

I remember back in the 1970's and 1980's when the Bay area was not as crazy as it is now. I remember friends being able to find housing out there.

Here in Chicago, I don't know how people do it now. My first condo cost $42K back in the mid-1980's.

Believe me, when we bought the house in 1991 it did not cost ANYTHING like the prices now, nor was the neighborhood like it is now. It was just a nice, quiet working class neighborhood back then, with ordinary businesses. At the time we lamented that there were almost no restaurants in the neighborhood, now there are 96 of them!

When we moved here, friends thought we were nuts because we were moving to the middle of nowhere.

We ended up here because there was a supermarket in walking distance, and good public transportation which we needed because Sukie doesn't drive (let's face it, the only way we could get closer to public transportation is if they start running the El through our living room).

It has gotten so crazy around here that people are buying old houses like ours for the land, tearing them down and building million dollar new ones.

That was why I left Jersey... the land was worth more than with the houses on them...

The garden! He's become very protective of it this year.

We paid another visit to Lowes yesterday. I was lucky and escaped with only a hose and sprinkler.

I'm trying to plant inbetween thunderstorms... :worried:

That is wonderful. She can get a free ice cream cone. It will only cost a plane ticket.

She'll need the cone on board when they stop giving out peanuts...

I know... I keep hearing... "If I build it... they will come!!!" :rotfl:

I wouldn't be at all surprised! I wouldn't know because I won't leave my bedroom with its little window air conditioning!I simply cannot believe it's 96 degrees at my house. We woke up this morning ant it was 86 IN THE HOUSE!! Oh, well, I'm taking a page from your book and going through all the drawers and cleaning out. That will take me a week, anyway!!! I've just never seen it this hot here for this many days in a row.
Actually I have to leave now because we're driving Erik down to San Diego for a week of Leadership camp. At least the car is air conditioned.
Once again I can't keep up. Catch you all tomorrow!

Stay cool... Keep asking yourself "does this clutter make my butt look fat?" I put a sign up in the office that says that little reminder.

You must have quite a garden!
Kelly, I put some of my precious cardboard boxes in the recycling when I got home today. That may not sound like a big deal to you, but believe me, it's a big deal for me!:rotfl2: You're a good influence on me! Tomorrow I plan to clean out a couple of cupboards. I have one in my kitchen that has corningware stuff in it that I haven't touched in years! I hope I don't chicken out. Maybe when I see you in Sept. you can tell me about selling on eBay. ;)
"Hi, I'm Cheri and I'm a boxaholic"....:smokin:

OH yeah, I know the box problem. We have so many that we can't let go of for the "next" move. And then there is the 500 we need for Xmas shipping and the ones we are using now for Ebay!

Holly you must have some California Girl in ya.:thumbsup2

Soon, she'll be wearing flip flops in winter.

I was thinking Brussels!!!:rotfl2:

I thought you thought bean sprouts. We are very sprouty out here in the west.

Wilson and Molly are completely out of their minds because I keep telling them all of our cruiser OLD friends have Wii (& we don't)

Wilson says "Ian please send us a Wii, my mom is too mean to buy us one"
Molly says "It's no fair the DISers and everyone in my life has a Wii except for me"

We don't have one either. I said when our degrees are completed we'll get something else to play with, but not until then. So, every night Jonathan is on Toontown! so, much for that philosophy. :confused3

I'll give that angle a try. Seems like the only time I empty every cupbard, drawer, closet is when I've lost something important! I usually can't find what I'm looking forward but get sidetracked with all the other finds.

OOOOOO I get that! A couple of years ago I started using blue painters tape to tape all my cords to the item with it marked in black sharpie! Or I mark the cord and put it in a baggie then store it in the item. Then we still had 50 cords left over and we actually sold them in a garage sale one year for 25 cents each! A bunch of crazy cord people came and bought them. :rotfl2:

Wow, theater camp sounds cool! :goodvibes

Good luck with your Ebay sales!

Bored out of my skull doing all the listing on Ebay, but have sold a few things already and watched several movies.

I'm giving it as a gift, so didn't open to check them out. I think it has two separate frames in each. It looks pretty cool. I'm taping the gift receipt on the back and wrapping them up. And then putting them in a closet that I've yet to clean out.

I was in the mood for spring rolls yesterday so got them at Costco. Took out our deep fryer, and now have spend the past 24 hours trying to find the cord. :confused3 One day, I will be all organized. I have a feeling it will be when I'm leaving in a one room apartment in an old folks home and all my kids have taken all my valuables. I hope they will bring me spring rolls when they come visit.

I love those spring rolls.

did the HM have tinker on the other side? I couldn't look closely, I was shopping under radar. I had Molly and Bailey with me.

Lisa, did you try them yet? I'm going to give one to Molly for her bday and want to make sure they are good before I wrap it. I guess I should just load it and find out.

There are actually two face plates per box - HM and TB and the other one is Cars and POTC. The flip side of the face plates are white.

I haven't loaded one yet but I picked up 4 myself - Christmas shopping for the nieces.

You have a great view of the El from up there!

Which reminds me, we recently had a problem with our satellite dish. I called DirecTV and the service rep asked me to go on the roof and check the dish. I told him it was 2 stories up.

He insisted I go check it. I asked him if he would like to hold while I went down the street, paid for the El and then took a ride so I could go past my house and look at it for him.

OMG that stuff is SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! Rich and full of callories but SOOOOOOOOOO Good!!!!!

HOLLY.....

Here's a link to a 3 day Wonder cruise trip report that your friends might find very helpful. It has good detail and Navigators posted. Maybe if you send them this one link they will find time to take a look.

Thank you! I'll send it to her. She and her husband did a 4 day before they had kids, but they don't remember many of the details because it was about 8 years ago or more. And her kids have never been, so they'll probably like seeing pics of what they'll see onboard.

Just think of the relationship you will have forever. I know a family that has "sisters" and "brothers" all over the world. I hope to do this too when the kids are older. Jon had one from China when he was a teen. It just seems like a good experience,

I know you are right, but I am having trouble even looking at her now without crying.

Gretchen finished up dancing just a little while ago. We are graduating 7 seniors so it was very sad at the last show tonight. Lots and lots of crying.

That's why I want to wait until the kids are teens so they can help out and they can do a few things on their own.

My girls are 11 and 14...just perfect for an exchange student. Daniel and Vanessa do a lot together over the last month or so he has been home.

I am so tired. Dance is over for all of 2 weeks before we start up next year.

I have a hugh empty hole in my heart. I feel like I am getting so old and the kids are out growing me.....

Lisa, you sound so sad....I think you need to step back and relook at this situtation. When the kiddos are grown up and one their way this will be the time in your life to refocus on yourself and Don. Enjoy having sometime to yourself. Maybe you need to find a special interest you've always wanted to enjoy but never gave yourself the permission (in your case time) to enjoy. Breathe baby breathe....

Lisa...

I told my nephew last year that they were all growing up and they didn't need me anymore and how sad I was... he told me that they may not need me anymore but they will always WANT me....:lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

When you post things on Ebay, do you always put a photo? The one thing that slows me down is dealing with taking photos of things and then posting. Oh yes, and then there is the packing. And the shipping. Guess there are a few things slowing me down..

Holly - I got them on a USB thing and ready to send to you! PM your address and I will send it off. I got the last two questions. I'm not the best (perhaps I am the worst) video taping person. It shakes a bit. I did get a video of the questions, and the fireworks at the end - so I'm sure Tyler will like it!

Framed Disney Stuff (second try)

I've heard from some people that the images I posted earlier today of the framed Ducky lithograph and framed pins were not displaying, so I'm giving it a second try:
