All right, we're leaving in 8 days and the excitement in my house is building. The other day I remembered that when I was a kid, we could rent little motor boats (seated 2 people) and zip around Bay Lake. Is this still an option?

Yes, the boats are still available. They are called Sea Raycers. 2 person maximum per boat and there's a total weight limit, too. Operator must have a driver's license. Can't take any photographs from the boats.

Prices are around $30-40 per half hour with discounts available to DVC and Passholders. In my experiences, they are pretty lenient with the clock and there are separate rates for 45 min, 60 min, etc.

Don't think we have ever gone past 45 minutes. It's fun but eventually you reach the limits of what is available to explore.

This is my DS10's favorite thing to do on the whole trip!

Don't forget your member card to get the discount. I want to say it was 20%, but would have to check the perks page. It was surprisingly reasonable compared to some other activities we've done at WDW.

I recommend going out in the morning - (it can be brutal on the lake in the afternoon sun).

I also respectfully disagree with the previous poster that you've seen everything there is to see in 45 minutes. If you want to go all the way over the the Poly area (and check out the birds on the former Discovery Island!) it takes a little time since you have to putt putt slowly through the canal. You can do that in 45 minutes, but not with a ton of extra time. Don't do 30 minutes, anyway. Go for 45 or 60.

Have fun!

and rent them at the Contemporary and NOT at a place like BCV/BWV. Those boats are "regulated" and go waaaay slower than the ones at Sammy Duvall at Contemporary. We love those boats!!!

We like to rent them at VWL, same boats as Contemporary, also available at Floridian and Poly too I believe. I've rented them a few times, the last time being this past Feb., 2 years ago too. I took one out and brought it back because it was much slower than I remember the other ones being, but the new one was just as slow. Anyone else notice this? What a disappointment, I won't be going again. They used to be great. The attendant said I may have gotten one with an older motor or something. It was definitely different. I want to hope that maybe the strong wind and waves were the reason for the difference, because they are so much fun.

But that being said, my neices loved the one they were on; they were zipping all over the place. They charge you by the 5 min after you pass 30 min if you go over alittle.

We rented one for our boys last summer; my 13 year old was able to drive with his then 10 year old brother as passenger. They had a blast!
