I can't shut off my water in the summer because I have automatic sprinklers that will be running.
If you haven't remodeled or done an addition, those projects can uncover all kinds of surprises in your house. We added onto our house 30 years ago, and the contractor wondered how our house ever passed final inspection as the crawl space isn't 18 inches, which the the minimum required by code. When we remodeled the kitchen, the drain from the sink to the sewer line appears to never have been glued when the house was built, and has been leaking for 30 years. Two neighbors discovered the same issue with their houses. And my main water line started leaking, plumber dug down and found it was leaking at a joint that also looked night it had never been glued.
