I am planning our first trip since 2000 to WDW. Is it warm enough for the water parks?

Welcome to the DIS!

One of the water parks will be closed while you are there. BB closes in October and reopens in early January, then when BB opens TL closes until March.

The answer to your question depends on where you are from and your tolerance for cool weather.

The pools are heated, but January weather in Orlando is completely unpredictable.
You could have warm afternoons with cool mornings, or you could have mornings near freezing with afternoons around 50 degrees.

My advice is to pack your swimsuits, and if you want to try the water park that is open, go on the first warm day you have--if you have any.

Ditto what Bob said. Weather in Florida in January can be very unpredictable. I remember one January where it barely got above 40 during the day, and another January where average day temprature was 60-65. Pack a swim suit in case, and enjoy your trip! :)

We spent 8 days in WDW in January. Two of the days were warm enough (low 80s) for us to go to BB. We had a nice time there & the park was almost empty.

Our arrival day was actually one of the warmest days of our trip. If we had planned it better, we would have gone to BB that day too.

I agree with them as well. We see lots of people in the pools at any time during the year. They are far braver than I am, but thats why I live in Florida.

The pools are heated, but the air isn't!

We go to Disney every January, and while there are generally a few days warm enough for swimming, we've never had a day that was hot enough for us to want to spend an entire day at a water park. I agree with those who have said the weather is very unpredictable. We've had temps in the 40's, in the 80's and everything in between! Basically, we have to pack for every season when we go.

DH and I are planning a short trip in September just so we can enjoy the waterparks and Stormalong Bay, which we don't normally get to do during our winter trip. I'm looking forward to the change, but will probably be anxious to go back to our annual January visits when we're not melting from the heat and humidity!
