Water Park tickets and Magic Bands

I am doing a cruise and planning to go to Typhoon Lagoon on the Thursday we get back, driving to Disney as soon as we disembark. We will be checking into the Art of Animation and have already customized our bands. I don't want to get tickets ahead just in case we have problems with getting off the cruise at the normal time. I purchased park tickets over the phone on our last trip and had them linked to our bands over the phone. Can I do the same with the water park tickets, for just the one day ticket? And do we have to go to the resort first before we could use the magic band if this was possible?

But, you won't be able to make advance FP+ reservations if you don't have tickets purchased for use on this trip.

Thanks! We are only doing the water park. I wish we had the time and money to do some theme park days after our cruise, but that will have to wait for now. Just gives me a reason to come back later! We only have the one day after the cruise and we have never done a water park before so thought we'd give it a try.
