I have been to WDW in February, March...ages ago, a couple of times in October and November, lots of times in April and often in the summer. This is the first year that I noticed that water levels in the lakes a retention ponds were very low. I would say at least a foot or two near Shades of Green, (Magnolia Golf course). When I saw an egret standing about 20 ft from shore up to his "knees", it was obvious. Also, Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon seemed quite low. The boat that goes from the Poly to GF to the MK had to dock on the opposite side of the MK landing because of the depth and its draft. Is this typical for March, or is it extremely low?

News Flash. Florida is experiencing a drought.

Nope, not normal, we're in a drought. We really need some heavy rain this spring/summer to catch up.

It's not a news flash, I am aware of the drought, but there have been droughts before and I have never seen the water levels that low. I have 33 years of visiting WDW, and it was lower than I have ever seen it.

We're going on the third year of drought in Central FL. In Tampa the reservoir went dry.

Yeah, lower water levels usually indicate the severity of the drought.

The lakes are really low. I live in Lake County, NW of Disney and there are houses that sit on canals connected to one of large lakes, the canals are completely dry, they have grass growing in them. We really need some heavy rains, hurricanes even to catch up.

Kind of like this?

WDW has a very complex lock system that connects every waterway and body of water on property. They can use this to raise or lower the water levels of the lakes so that the boats can continue running. The problem is that the central florida area is down nearly 3' of rainfall since 2006. The locks can only make up for so much variance :(

As of the beginning of April, Hillsborough county (Tampa) has just banned all use of sprinklers on lawns. They should have banned it a month ago. We need rain, tropical storms would even be nice!

Yes, it has been very dry. To make it worse right now, we're going into a few months that usually have the least rain in a normall year.

I know north Florida is down 10 inches since October compared to normal. We've been limited to watering lawns only 2 days per week now and never between 10 am and 4 pm due to rapid evaporation. Wild fires already breaking out all over the state - might be as bad as they were in 1998 when they were horrible and it is only March - the worst of the fires in 98 weren't until May/June!

Yup, I wouldnt be suprised if fireworks were banned in the state again for the 4th this year.

I can guarantee that you will have rain the first week of December. Every time I go to WDW it rains, a lot. :rotfl2: Seriously I hope you all get the rain down there that you need but hopefully not from a lot of hurricanes.
