I was out pruning my roses this evening, when Chris spots this little fella by our fence. Mama's nowhere to be seen. We wonder if he's orphaned or just roaming away. I wasn't aware of any nearby nest and he didn't look to be trying to fly. We ushered him under the fence to the front yard. Maybe his mother would see him. We were a little afraid of doing that, since he's more visible to the neighborhood cats as well. In the front yard, he kept chirping and finally there was an answer. I herded him towards a neighbor's bush where the chirps were coming from and Mama flew in. She must have been gone. As soon as she arrived, I headed for the porch. Mama swooped down and they just started chattering with each other. I didn't get to see the Mother. Is this a finch? I'm terrible with bird identification.

Great pics, Olena, so clear. :) I'm glad his Mama found him!

I'm not good with bird identification either, but I don't think it's a finch.

Virgo10 could probably help us out with this one, I think I'll PM her! :)

Awesome pictures. It's hard to tell what kind of bird when they are small and haven't grown their colors yet. I'm going to guess a sparrow of some kind.

Sorry. I don't know what that birdie is. There are several great books on identification but most of them just show the young adults or birds that are totally grown.

That's OK. Thanks, everyone....:D
