I thought of you when i saw this:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/crui...ates+(Disney+Updates+-+wdwinfo.com)#halloween

sounds so neat!!! I am just so excited for you and your cruise!!!! You have wonderful children!!!!

I remember that you have Zack the Lego Maniac...those two would get along just fine! :thumbsup2

I am so excited about all the Halloween festivities on board...but do you know I had not seen this before in the other articles I have read?

"NOTE: NO WEAPONS ALLOWED. If you plan on being a pirate, leave your plastic cutlass at home as no weapon, real or fake, is permitted."

Glad I saw that, because Gabe's Halloween costume has a foam weapon! that would have created quite the scene at port arrival, I am sure. :scared: So THANK YOU for sharing that particular article!!! :goodvibes

Hey there Oopsi! :wave2:

I have been MIA from the boards again but I am back! I am finally all caught up! (Although I did stalk your Duck Dynasty pics on FB! :lmao:)

I can't believe that you guy are so close to sailing! :hyper: I love looking at and reading about your family nights. Your family looks like so much fun! I would love to do stuff like this but my Boyfriend is so not a Disney person..:headache:

He did however finally say yes to a ten day trip! We are going next March! We are also going to do three days at Universal to make it worth his while, but I can't even contain my excitement! :cool1::banana::thumbsup2:rotfl::hyper::yay::dance3::love:

I am SO EXCITED for you that your BF is finally going to Disney with you!!! :yay: I know you usually only get trips revolved around your cheerleaders (:cheer2:), and they are quick ones... 10 Days!!! Yes, boyfriend DOES deserve 3 days at Universal as a big ole' thank you!!! :goodvibes Now, the question is...who is going to take care of your precious fur baby while you are gone that long??? :confused3 ;) So happy for you Casey! :goodvibes

HAPPY DAY AFTER YOUR BIRTHDAY GABE! He looks like he was more than pleased with all of his gifts. I mean, heck, who wouldn't be thrilled with Legos, games and moolah? :lmao:

Happy Birthday, Gabe! :thumbsup2 My babies are 8-years-old too and I don't like it one bit. Where did the time go?

Here are the answers to your questions and some more things I thought of. First, let me just say that St. Maarten was the first time we disembarked a cruise ship so there was a little chaos at first. I highly recommend ordering room service for breakfast the night before. You'll find an order slip/tag in the desk drawer; fill it out and hang it on your door the night prior. This saved us a ton of time in the morning. We ordered a ton of food too because we didn't plan on eating on the island. (I'll touch on this more later).

DCL's gangway and another cruise ship's gangway were at the exact some place so there were throngs of people on the pier and I was a little anxious because it was crowded and I was a little confused as to what I was doing. I had read on the DIS that there would be towels on the pier to pick up for use. That was not the case. I couldn't find any towels anywhere so I located a CM and asked. She told me they no longer put towels on the pier because passengers from other cruise ships were taking them. So, DH had to go against the 4,000 passengers disembarking and head to the pool deck to pick up towels. So, pick up towels before you disembark. (If you are on a DCL sponsored excursion there will be towels for you at your meeting location). Since DH had to go back onboard for towels, we were now late for our tour. I was in a panic and rushing to get to the building and I couldn't find it but thankfully someone that was on our same tour (our cruise meet did a tour together) spotted me and flagged me over. After all that rushing we ended up waiting about 30 minutes to leave. :faint: There are stores right there to shop in but I never ventured in any because I didn't want the tour to leave without me.

Once we boarded our motor coach I was able to relax. There is no need to take drinks with you. Bernard's provides beer, soda, water free of charge.

Orient Beach was the first beach we visited (after the iguana farm and sea urchin man). Now, you may see some nudity at this beach. Head to the left side of the beach. There is a nude club or something to the right side of the beach. We did see two nude people but my boys didn't notice; they were in the ocean. There will be a ton of people walking the beach trying to sell you stuff. The stuff is actually nice but nothing that caught my attention. I just said "no thank you" and they moved along. You can rent two chairs and an umbrella too for about $20. We just plopped our stuff in the sand. As far as food, there was a bar near by that sold food but we weren't hungry yet as it was only about 10:30-11:00 and we had a big breakfast.

When we left Orient we headed towards Marigot, the capitol. Here you will find a ton of restaurants and shops. We were running late because of traffic and we wanted to get to Maho to see the KLM jet take off, so, collectively as a group we decided to not spend too much time in Marigot. We had about 45 minutes. We all had to go the bathroom so after spending about 15 minutes waiting in line we didn't have much time left. I did browse in one store and then we walked around a little and took some pictures. There is a cool fort on the hill overlooking the city that my boys loved. (We couldn't get to it but I have a ton of pics). By this time it was time to board to leave. We would've never had time to eat here so you may want to eat a lot before you disembark in case you don't have time to sit down and eat. I did look over some of the menus and prices were very reasonable. I had wanted to head to Sarafina's but again I was worried about time. One party in our group did head to Sarafina's and they barely made it back to the motor coach before it left so watch your time.

Maho Beach was awesome but crowded. There is a bar there that serves food but we didn't eat there because 1. it was crowded as in standing room only and 2. we didn't want to waste our hour eating. The beach is very small but the ocean is great. The waves this day were wild as my boys say. I couldn't get them out of the ocean. They could've cared less about the planes. They might have looked at one or two and then they played the rest of the time in the ocean. I thought it was awesome and it was definitely the highlight of our day.

We got back to the pier at about 1:30 and boarded the ship and went to deck 11 to eat. We didn't spend a penny all day because we didn't eat anything and we didn't buy anything but if you do spend money you don't have to exchange currency; they'll take American money.

We loved Bernard's because it is a great way to see the entire island and we learned so much. Our tour guide talked the whole time he was driving pointing out stuff and telling us so many interesting facts. What I didn't like (and this isn't anything against Bernard's) is the fact that I constantly was wet and sandy. There was never any good place to get the sand off and I hate feeling sandy. The best FE gift we got (and, as a family we already decided we are giving these as one of our FE gifts next year) is a paint brush that was Disney-fied with Disney tape and stickers. We used that brush to get most of the sand off. We used it last week too when we were at the beach. It came in handy and we loved that gift.

One other thing since we are talking about excursions. I think you are doing a DCL sponsored excursion in St. Thomas. You will be given a sticker to wear (everyone in your group will have the same sticker). Don't get these stickers wet. Many in our group put them right on their swimsuits and they were not able to get them off. Seriously, I saw some later in the week with the sticker still on (picture came off but white part was still there).

I hope I answered all of your questions. Please ask if you have anymore. I'm sorry about the long post, too. I can get very long-winded.

Disny_luvr~ this is EXACTLY the information I needed!!! My kids have never traveled out of the country, and we have never been on a cruise, so your advice is PERFECT! Do not apologize for the long post, because EVERY BIT OF IT was very pertinent information. THANK YOU!!!!

If we can have the time for it, I am sure my family will want to have lunch somewhere on the island. We LOVE to try ethnic cuisine. :thumbsup2

How about tips? How many locals did you end up needing to tip while you were on your tour?

I am happy to know that I can mark the case of bottled water off my to buy list. I was dreading toting that thing around on embarkation day waiting for our room to be ready. :sad2: We have an early PAT, so we may be on the ship for quite a while before our room is ready. Now I know we will only have to carry around a couple bottles of wine. We have a veranda room, so one of my cruise bucket list items is to order fruit and cheese plates from room service and have wine, fruit and cheese on the verandah for sunset. :goodvibes

Can you suggest good times to do the Midship Detective Agency? Are certain times less crowded and hectic than others? How about the AquaDuck?

Are there shows you would suggest skipping in order to get to the AquaDuck and Midship Detective Agency while others are dining and seeing shows? We have first seating for dinner each night.

I am just SO EXCITED for our cruise!!!! :dance3:

LOVE LOVE LOVE the gift that keeps on giving!

I can't help on the cruise stuff as we've never done one. But I am sure you will get it all figured out and it will work out great.

I do not like Duck Dynasty :duck:, but that dog is adorable.

Glad you found your formal dress for the cruise.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GABE! Nice presents you got; hope it was a great day.

Duck Dynasty is definiitely a sourthern/ redneck show. :rotfl2: I am not surprised that you do not like it. :goodvibes

All your Disney vacations, and you have not considered a cruise? :confused3

Thanks! I am so excited too! I have no clue who is going to watch the baby! :dog2::dogdance: My parents will most likely watch her for some of the trip. They are trying to come for a portion (5-6 days) so we will have to find out if they are coming and go from there. :woohoo:

I have, but the price always scares us.

Thank goodness Kathy liked me even though I'm a southern redneck from the same town! Or, Kathy could be a really really good actress. ;)

Trust me, no act, my friend. Southern redneck or not, I'd still love ya!

That's the reason we've only done one cruise. I'd like to go back but I think about how far that $$$ would go towards Disney World.

Love ya too Kathy!

I think the only person we tipped on our Bernard's tour was the tour guide himself. I think DH tipped him a few dollars, maybe $8 ($2 for each of us). He had a basket that said "tips" in the front of the motor coach but he never mentioned anything about tipping. We tipped him as well as others on our same tour but there were some that didn't.

You'll love your verandah. I'm not speaking from experience because we didn't have one :lmao: but who wouldn't love a verandah. We were in an 8C, the room with the large porthole window. It was a great room BUT we did book a verandah for our next cruise. We'll be in a 5E - the rooms with the huge verandah directly off the back of the ship. I.Can't.Wait. :thumbsup2

I just went and got my Navigators from our cruise to remind myself what the shows were each night. Now I'm sad and depressed because I have to wait 493 days until our next cruise. Anyway, here are the shows each night. I'm pretty sure your shows will be the same and in the same order because we both did/are doing an Eastern:

Night 1: A Fantasy Come True - This one was okay. It was kind of a big commercial for what is to come on the cruise. There was also a magician that did a small act during the show. I'd probably go because it is the first night. We'll do this one again next time.

Night 2: Aladdin - Again, this one was okay. We might skip this one on our next cruise.

Night 3: Wishes - This was our favorite show. We'll definitely see this one again!

Night 4: *This was Pirate Night (St. Maarten day). Frozen played in the theater. We saw the movie. I'm assuming they'll play a movie this night. It might still be Frozen.

Night 5: Buckets N' Boards Comedy Percussion Show - Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! Buckets N' Boards may or may not be on your cruise. Right now they aren't on any Disney cruise ship (I follow them on FB) so there is a good chance they could be back in the fall. If it isn't them it will probably be a magician or ventriloquist.

Night 6: An Unforgettable Journey - OMG, I can't even remember this show. I can't remember if we saw it or not. I'm pretty sure we did. If I saw it it must not have impressed me too much.

Night 7: Disney's Believe - Again, this show was okay. We'd probably see it again because it is the last night.

I'll be honest, none of the shows blew me away. We liked them but didn't love any of them. We saw all of them (or at least I think we did) because it was our first time and we didn't want to miss them. Next time I know we won't see them all because there is just to much to do. That is one reason we are cruising the Fantasy again - we didn't get to do half of the stuff. Looking over my Navigator's I see so much I wanted to do that we just didn't have time for. Also, my boys didn't get to every show; they saw about half. They loved the kid's clubs and they were often at them while we were at the show.

As far as Midship Detective Agency, we never really found it busy. There were times we had to wait maybe for one person to get their game started but that was it. We played three times and rarely ever waited. People play all day. There are two different areas on the ship were you can start your game - Deck 2 and I think Deck 4.

Surprisingly, the AquaDuck line was never really that long. I was expecting the worst when it came to the pool deck in general. I never found it that bad though. We were always able to find a chair on the pool deck and I mean around 2:00 in the afternoon, peak pool time. We rode the AquaDuck a lot in the afternoon and never waited long (no more than 10 minutes tops). One night we went to the pool after the show and there was no one there and no wait for the AquaDuck.

disny_luvr, you are a wealth of information! Even though I don't see another Disney cruise on our horizon for a few years, I'm going to keep up with your tips. They are great!

Dzny_luvr...AWESOME tips and advice! Eternally grateful! :thumbsup2

So much planning and purchasing going on this week!! :cool1: Went thrift store shopping earlier this week. I was able to get:

*A shirt for my Pirate Night costume
*Five pairs of name brand shorts for the girls
*Tie for Gabe for Formal Night
*Shirt for Charity's Halloween Costume
*Belt for Jillian (she had FINALLY outgrown the one I bought for her when she as 9 years old :rotfl: )

All of this for a total of $27!!! :dance3:

So, while I have been able to cross several things off my list... it has grown. :sad2:

I also have an ongoing packing list. The girls and I worked on it earlier this week. We brought our Disney tote down from the attic and went through it. We separated out the stuff we would use for the cruise and sent the rest back up to the attic. The girls tried on the Pirate Night costumes I had ordered for them online way back when. They both fit and they both really liked the costumes. Score for MOM! :yay: Along with the costumes, we also put a few other things in a suitcase that will not be worn before we leave. It felt great to actually get some of the packing started.

Since I shared my purchase list last time, this time I will share my to do list:

*Bling up Charity's costume shirt (doing that this weekend :cool1:)
*Finish one last element of her costume that needs to be altered
*Haircuts for the whole family
*Get my hair colored
*Finish door decorations (need to add the magnets)
*Finish up any additional FE gifts I need to do when official list of participants is released.

And today marks...

70 days til we cruise!!!!!! :cheer2:
