Hi everyone,
I'm am looking for a hotel in DC for the third week in March. I am willing to pay $200 max but would really like to find one cheaper than that. I am looking for somewhere close to the Metro, safe to walk outside at night, and clean. I would like to stay in DC but would consider other areas as long as a Metro was close by and could get me into the city fast. Could anyone recommend a hotel for me?

Thanks in advance,
Stephanie

You might want to check out the Key Bridge Marriott, they are not too far from metro or DC. I think it is in Arlington,VA. Good Luck

Sorry I just checked and it's ~$289 per night.

:rotfl: :rotfl: No Where in DC itself fits that description in you price range. I would look in the Fair Oaks, VA area or the SpringField< VA area. Both have lots of hotels and are on the Metrobus route

Alexandria, VA is a nice town and there's a metro stop there.

The Crystal City Marriott in Arlington is very nice. They are currently running some weekend specials. May be pricey during the week however. It is a great place, near Regan National. You can jump on the Metro right downstairs, and I believe you can park for free. It has been a while since we were there, but I would recommend it if the rates are to your liking.

I live in the DC area. I live in Falls Church VA and work in Crystal City. Most of the hotels in Crystal City (Arlington, VA) are nice and there are two Metros nearby (well actually 3 but you really don't want to walk to the airport Metro). Pentagon City is a nice area as well and has a huge mall and then you can hop on the metro to get to DC.

We stayed at Homewood suites http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...on_DC-Washington_DC_District_of_Columbia.html
Had good reviews on tripadvisor, full kitchen, free huge breakfast and free dinner (during the week) and was not that far (couple of blocks) to the metro. Had separate living area and a nice comfy bed, two tvs. I don't remember a swimming pool if that's important to you. We stayed there for less than $200 but I think it depends when exactly you go. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat - they really were great.

We stayed at the Marriott Metro Center 2 years ago, and we liked it very much. It was clean, close to the metro (the metro is right there!) and a decent walk to popular attractions. It was just around the corner from Fords Theater and the house where Lincoln died. It also has an indoor pool, which is always a bonus for us! I believe we paid $180 a night and that was some sort of weekend special which included breakfast. It was Memorial Day weekend.

We have stayed at the Hotel Washington (just do a search). Not a great place but was good, restaurant was good for breakfast & it is right across from the White House. Remember to always find out what the parking fee's are they add to price but are not included. Be ready for lots of walking. Good Luck !! Washington is beautiful.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Rosslyn last year in mid March and it was very handy and close to the Metro.

Stephanie,
What are your exact dates? We are going to be there the 12-17th. We have to get two rooms so it looks like we will be using Priceline and staying further out....

I'm going March 17-24 but only need a room for the 19th-23rd since my fiance and I are staying with his sister some of the days.
I am thinking of looking into Priceline myself. Can anyone tell me anything about it?
Thanks.

Check out "bidding for travel" and better bridding" websites. They give lots of great info. on how to bid on Priceline. We've gotten great rooms in Philly for CHEAP prices using Priceline.

We have never used it for DC.

But with kids, we stayed at Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria last Easter week...and it was great. It included an indoor pool, a complimentary happy hour and a cooked to order breakfast. Plus it was right across the street from the Metro station and an EASY (15 min?)commute . But I did a quick search and rooms are $275 there for your dates.

11 Years ago (BC - Before Children) - we stayed at the Kalorama Guest House in Adams Morgan - A GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD - with great ethnic restaurants and clubs. We had a clean, spacious "shared bath" room for less than $75 a night. It was 15 minute walk to the Dupont Circle Metro.

It is a great find for an adventurous traveler on a budget, but it is definitely not a commercial chain...more like a European Inn or Italian Pensione, but we loved it and would stay again. During breakfast, we enjoyed eavesdropping on lobbyists while they talked shop. We would stay there again.

I have stayed at the DoubleTree Crystal City and I remember that the rates on the weekend were very reasonable (less than $200/nt). This was a couple of years ago, but it was a great hotel with an awesome view of the Pentagon and a nice pool on the roof with a great view of the city. There is also a mall and a metro within walking distance. And of course, those yummy cookies when you check in.

There's a Days Inn just a couple subway stops from the zoo-subway stop right next door. The prices there are usually very good. Rooms only have two double beds. They also have a 'panda package' which includes some cool goodies at the zoo. I think it's Days Inn Connecticut Ave. We've been staying at the Omni Shoreham but their good prices have to be booked WAY far in advance.

We stayed at Embassy Suites Chevy Chase Pavillion last March. We chose this hotel on our first trip to Washington DC due to it's location on a metro stop and based upon others trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. The suite was very nice and the hotel is part of a shopping mall. We used Hilton Honors points for the stay so the value was tremendous. Breakfast was very good and conveniently located just down the hallway from our room. There is a Cheesecake Factory restaurant in the shopping mall just steps from the hotel and we ate there 2 of our 4 nights. Great food but the wait was a little long. We drove from Illinois and parked our car in the attached underground facility where we left it for our entire stay. We simple jumped on the metro just below the mall and headed for DC proper. Parking was VERY tight in the garage and we were glad we had a smaller vehicle. We did see several large SUVs in the garage but I was glad that we weren't driving them. The garage was nicely lit and had plenty of spots for the hotel and they were close to the elevators too. We're regularly stay in Hampton Inns, another part of the Hilton family of hotels, but this was our first Embassy Suites stay and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Only bad part was the pool/hot tub that was in a health club in the mall. It was so heavily chlorinated that my daughter and I stayed maybe 10 minutes and had to leave. I've seen other complaints about the health club relationship to the hotel. If you're really needing a pool/hot tub then look elsewhere otherwise this is a great choice. Besides the Cheesecake Factory there are several nice restaurants within 1 block. The mall houses a World Market, SteinMart, and several upscale boutiques and salons. We were not expecting it to be as cold as it was during our visit and were glad we had thrown warm coats in the back of the car, and I was glad I had brought gloves. LOTS of walking! We also stayed at a Hampton Inn in Alexandria but only for one night. It was fine and also right by a metro station. Enjoy your trip!

Try some of the Kimpton Boutique Hotels. I took DH to DC a couple of years ago for his birthday, and we stayed in the Hotel Monaco. It was really nice, and I was glad that it was pet-friendly. They have some pretty good rates, and are all close to a Metro.

Good luck and don't forget to pack your walking shoes!!

I stayed at the Dupont Circle Hotel with my girls last year right before Thanksgiving. Try Priceline or Hotwire ... Just be sure to do the higher star rating to get a good, safe hotel. You can specify the area of town you want. I have found that often you can get good deals on Priceline on hotels that are in the midst of renovation. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.
fwiw, we paid UNDER $100/night, which is unheard of in DC just 2 blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro station. The hotel was being renovated, so that was not pretty, but we had a huge SUITE in a safe, convenient location.
Good luck!
If you try priceline, post and let us know what you got!!

about 1 1/2 years ago, we pricelined the comfort inn Alexandria, about a 10 minute train ride into the Smithsonian area, it was $70 a night, free breakfast, not fancy, but very clean and comfortable,up the street from the train station, with a free shuttle to get there, cost and time to get into the city was not bad at all by train, we'd do it again!
