Was there a "final straw" that made you buy?

For us it was staying first at OKW and then at Wilderness Lodge (before it had a DVC entity), and realizing that if we had taken what we spent on lodging for those two trips alone, we would have had a membership nearly paid for! That was the tipping point back in 1997. We had looked into DVC 4 years previous to that, but just thought it was a pipe dream until we realized how easy it would be and how much more often we could go to Disney.

;)Our straw was the 210 (2008) points we got with our purchase last summer. Too good to pass up and went from staying at Pop to AKL for our trip this past Nov. DH was looking over my shoulder this weekend when I did our 11 month booking for Dec 2010. He can't wait to get back to see his "pets" out our patio door. :cutie:

Family of six had to book 2 rooms in a deluxe resort(our choice) and one sick child. DH took the tour the rest is history. DVC member since 93.

Reached the point where comfort and relaxing schedules became most important.

Also could not stand the constant bus trips from the value and intermediate resorts to each park. Chose BCV due to location and style.

Never regretted it. Just regretted not buying more points!!!

Our final straws were the cost of a 10 day trip to POR in 2007, the cost of beverages and snacks, and the fact that no matter how neat a person is, there is no WAY to keep a hotel room neat for 10 days! We have recouped nearly half of what we spent on our initial 225 points, we have been able to have friends join us, which never would have happened before, we have been able to make more frequent trips in a year's time for about the same price as one 10 day trip every 18 months or so. Our only regret is that we didn't buy in sooner and now we are hoping to do an add-on in the next few months! (we are hoping that Uncle Sam gives us our hard earned $$ back!)

final Straw....well actually was many really. Frequency we were going, South American Tour groups at Pop in July (BIGGIE), last OOP stay before DVC $3,900 for DW, 2 DD's and I at Pop.
Looking back, We so wished we had bought it sooner, famous last words for most DVC owners! Shawnpirate:

Our last straw was staying at the POP with 4 of us in one little room. Never again!!!

We were on our first trip, drinking the Kool-Aid big time, watching the DVC channel on the TV when we were in the room and did the tour. Signed on the dotted line.

But the Kool-Aid doesn't have the pull for us anymore and we've already sold off 175 of our 500 points.

Seeing my, then 2 yo, son's face light up after coming out from under the train station and seeing the castle at the end of Main Street...nothing better!

:rotfl:That'd do it! What a marketing ploy!

How about the summer of 1000 students from every known country in the world at AS Sports? Running up and down the halls, LLLOOONNNGGG lines for everything!!! Took the tour and I was Hooked!!!:lmao:

Sounds exactly like us. ;) And because of DVC we've gone from 1-2 trips per year to 3-4.

thanksgiving 08 4 of us in a room at csr my 6yo would not fall asleep with the tv on! so i'm sitting in the dark thinking this isn't going to work, next day thanksgiving we went and bought 200 points at bay lake.

When our fourth child was no longer "under 3 in a crib." We were going to have to get 2 rooms and could no longer fit into one deluxe room.

When our fourth child was no longer "under 3 in a crib." We were going to have to get 2 rooms and could no longer fit into one deluxe room.

We had a similar experience... We used to always stay at the moderate resorts and sometimes value, depending on our budget at the time. A few years ago, we stayed at All Star Sports when my 3rd child was in a crib. Not only were we cramped, I realized then that Disney had few options for families of 5 or more, and that I wouldn't be able to spent $300 or more per night for a room. (Staying off site was NOT an option for us.)
So after we got home after that trip, I did a little research into DVC, called them and bought our first 200 points.

For us it was when I was planning our third trip to WDW for six of us and we had already been doing yearly trips to DL. I kept thinking DVC wasn't for us since we were on the West Coast, but gave finally gave in around 2005 and bought a resale contract. We took our trip in 2005 and came home and add-on more points. :rotfl:

My final straw was realizing that I work too hard to stay in a value for a week:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

I have a beautiful house and why was I short changing myself on vacation by stuffing our family into a 2.x4 size room with double beds:confused3

I deserved luxury!!! But didn't want to pay the outrageous Deluxe prices, so when we found out we could buy in at the BW- WELL that was what pushed me over to the DVC side.
