Was it a fluke- afternoon productions

In March 2014 I was on the Fantasy and they had afternoon shows for their main theatre productions. We loved this because it didn't interfere with my son's early bedtime. Fast forward to Jan this year and there weren't any afternoon shows in the Magic. So was it a fluke that they were on the Fantady or are they there based in the size of the ship, or did Disney have them and get rid of them. Hopefully it is a Fantasy vs Magic thing. But I wish they would do that in all ships and cruises. Curious. Thanks.

They didn't have afternoon shows on the Fantasy in June 2013 or June 2014. I've never heard of this on any ship.

So are you saying they had 3 show times? A matinee, 1 during the first dinner seating and 1 during the 2nd dinner seating?

They have done matinee performances of the three main stage productions on each ship, but it doesn't happen on every cruise.

Is there any rhyme or reason to when they do that? Curious because that's a nice option for some families and probably cuts down on the evening crowds a little?

How do we know when it would happen? Yes they offered a matinee. It was at 3 I believe.

I too have seen matinees on the Magic years ago. I loved it so that we had time in the evening to try other things. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't

We had matinees on the Magic when we sailed in Feb 2013. I think they were at 3:00. It was a kids sail free promotion so was sold out with TONS of kids. I thought this might be the reason on that particular sailing. We have never had them on any of our other 3 sailings on the Magic, Wonder or Dream.

I thought the matinees were offered on Sea Days. We had them on Sea Days on the Fantasy.

In prep for my June cruise, I'd been looking at old Navigators and was originally looking forward to going to at least one of the matinee shows because they were listed in Navigators from last May, but I haven't seen any matinee shows on the Fantasy Navigators past September. I thought it might be that they would only have them on very full sailings, but even the Fantasy cruise over Christmas (which I assume would be a very full ship) didn't have the matinees. So it looks like they've decided to no longer offer the matinees.

And yes, they were only offered on sea days when they were offered.

It depends on what the entertainment CMs are required to do each cruise. Sometimes they have obligations that don't allow the entire cast to be available for a matinee performance. I have also been told this happens when there is a transfer of entertainment staff since the new group needs to use the theater during down times to practice and get use to performing with the movement of the ship.

ok, this is good to know not to expect it when we cruise in November. Our last cruise was June 2013, so I was kinda expecting it to happen again. It was nice to see a matinee and have a less crowded pool time in the evening.

They had the matinees once on the wonder Mexican riviera March 2011. I loved it & so did the kids because they prefer spending the evenings in the clubs.

We had them on the Fantasy in January 2014. It was nice to be able to plan other evening activities. They did only happen on sea days.

On our cruise on the Fantasy in late January/early February of this year, we had an afternoon matinee on the first sea day. That night was the Super Bowl, and the cruise director specifically mentioned that they were offering the matinee so people didn't have to choose between the show and the Super Bowl.

On our cruise on the Magic for Thanksgiving 2011, we had an afternoon matinee for all three of the big shows. I assume because of the holiday that the ship was full and maybe had more kids than the average cruise?

We have had matinees on a few ships but don't really know the rhyme or reason. I do think they were offered on the seas days.
