WARRIORS springing into MAY!!

Thank you all for your support,

Kate - I'll give for arms a rest. Running in the heat can be a problem especially when it is unexpected. Today it was 80 f when I started my walk but staying in the shade wasn't too bad.

Amanda - great job on the repeats.

Bookwood - Good luck on getting back into a routine.

Kathy - Sounds like a good weekend.

Tracey - Sound like a good in not HOT run.

AFM - I decided to go out at do a slow recovery walk today. It was warm out and I did about 3 miles in 52 minutes. I had forgotten about one event I have coming up. I signed up for the churches Relay for Life Team. They did the initial signup for times last Sunday while I was at Cleveland and the only times not covered are 1:00 am to 5:00 am. I may decide to double up with someone else on their hour. There was talk around the church that the youth might be taking the overnight hours.

Hey Warriors!!

Happy Sunny & hot Monday!!

It is turning out to be a really warm Spring. And quickly! And Humid!! The heat index is usually 5-7º above the temperature. As a result, I dropped the running mileage back a couple of weeks ago and have slowly been adding .2-.4 miles/run to build the heat tolerance back up. I did about 4.8 today in a slow 10:00+ pace.

One issue I have had recently is that my legs have felt really "dead" (for lack of a better term) for the last few weeks. After trying to figure out what the heck was going on, the only thing I could find different was the pain killer the spine doctor prescribed for me. Sooooooooooooooo, I went off the pain killers about 4 days ago, and today, my legs felt fine (heat tolerance aside). So it looks like I am back to Tylenol & Motrin for pain management. Hopefully it'll work out ok.

Bike tomorrow. I have a meeting at the office tomorrow, so that's about a 16 mile round trip + whatever else I toss in on the side.

I have managed to find 5 1/2's in the fall in the general area. I may turn into a 1/2 ***** this fall just for fun. After the Goofy in 2011, I may stick strictly to 1/2's (for the back).

You guys all rock!! Keep up the great work!!

Hey Warriors! Hope everyone is having a good week.

I got a new road bike last weekend! :woohoo: I am so excited! Haven't been able to ride it yet. DH has not put the pedals on plus it has been raining the last few days.

Last night at the track, we did a timed 5k. My lungs have not recovered from the double bout of bronchitis, so I did a 3/1 interval to give them rest. I didn't want to crash. I finished only 1 minute off of my 5k PR! I couldn't believe it! I can't wait for these lungs to stop acting up on me. But until then, I'll just keep plugging along. :)

Thanks for the encouragement. Yesterday's work-out kicked my butt but I'll re-try it tomorrow. I still did 3 miles in 45 min but I walked the last one. I've decided that I'm ok with walking much of the 1/2 marathon as long as I can finish! I still have lots of time to train.
I'm off to San Fran tomorrow for a work convention. I'm planning to take full-advantage of no children and a nice hotel gym to get at least 2 work-outs in this weekend.
Happy Memorial Day to all (in case I don't get to check in again!)!!! I'm so grateful for the support and to read about all the amazing things that the Warriors do!!!

Amanda

Hi all

First of all Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Jim - Hope the change of meds does the trick.

Michelle - Contratulation on the great 5K time.

Amanda- Keep at it. hopefully a change in scenery will do you good.

Things have been going well for me. I currently don't have any races planned but I'm strongly considering the half marathon portion of the Columbus Marathon in October. So, I won't need to get back into distance work for about a month. In the mean time, I'm looking at starting a C25K Program at http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/Programs/couch_to_5k_overview.htm I'm starting this week with week 4 of the 16 week program. I'm skipping ahead because Week 1 is all walking, Week 2 is Run/Walk ration of 3/27 3 min of running total and 27 min of walking. Weeks 3 and 4 are 6/24. For the last several weeks, I've been doing 1 day a week of 8/24 so going back a step and increasing it to 3 days a week seemed like a good plan. Yesterday, I did a 1/2 mile warmup, then the 30 min. workout, and finally a 1/2 mile cool down. On the weekends I plan on doing 1 and 1/2 miles at the end.

The goal over the next month is to get to half walking and half running for the 30 minutes. At that point I need to switch to half marathon training and will evaluate where to go from there. I think it will be to switch over to the week 14 or 15 of the 27 week plan for 2 days a week and do the long distance from Marathoning for Mortals Walk/Run plan. To keep from going to fast on the run steps, I've set my Garmin to alert me if I'm going faster than a 12:00 mile.

Edited to add
Went out this morning and got my 4 miles in today with 30 min of walk/run.

Happy Friday Warriors!!!!!

A nice sunny (warm) day in Beautiful NE Florida!! I got in 36 miles on my bike yesterday and ran 6.12 today. I fought my back to a tie the last couple of days, so I'll call that a win!

I'm trying to find a Tri event to do this summer, but no luck so far (not spending enough time in the pool anyway, so that's probably a good thing ;-) ).

Ya'll sound like everything is doing well. Remember, many times training is two steps forward & 1 back, (as I personally know too well) so little setbacks are to be expected. Be careful of the heat!! I'm thinkin' the last few days that maybe Al Gore IS right. It's HOT!

On a slight tangent, I just want to remind everyone to PLEASE let your friends & family know how much they really mean to you. Often. I had to go on a call last shift where a man went to work at 6 a.m. & came home at 5 p.m. to find his wife of 20+ years dead on the sofa (natural causes, but extremely unexpected). You just never know when life is going to punch you in the face, Live with no regrets and no loose ends!

Peace to all.

Carrie:

Have a great TRI today!! Rock it girl!!!!

 :woohoo: :cheer2: :cheer2: :woohoo:

Hi Warriors

Trying to work on my balance issue. Have had problems since my car accident. Borrowed my Dad's WII game and have been doing some of those training. As anyone tried any of these games or any other suggestions for balance:confused3

When I walk I do notice myself not walking in a straight line so that is why I thought I better start working on that because when I finally get to do the 1/2 I don't want to walk into anyone.

I will be out tomorrow morning and I think we are going to walk the bridge going over the IC. That is the only hill here on the west coast of Florida and that is like the overpasses at Disney. Easy pace still, especially when my DH just did 150 miles on his bicycle today.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Kathy

Lily!!!

Hope you did well at Buffalo today!!! Let us Warriors know all about it when you get back!!

** Warriors - When I start next months thread, please do not post right after me, that space is reserved for Carrie. Please let us know if you have any races planned for June and she will post them there. That way we can all keep track and root for our Warriors out there on the asphalt! Once Carrie has posted second, then you all can go crazy!!**:thumbsup2

Howdy Warriors,

Been awhile since I have checked in. It has been super hot here in central Illinois. Just got home from a fishing trip to Canada with my Dad.

I am 7 miles short of 500 for the year so far, hope to get them done in the morning. Hope everyone who raced this weekend did well.

Happy Memorial day to all!!!

hey hey, hope the races went well warriors!

Had a nice active bank holiday weekend, 2 runs and 2 walks. I was a bit worried after running club on thursday that ITB was back in action, but it seems to have been ok since.

Oh I actually LED the group!!! The main guy had to help his soon move so i was left in charge! It went really well, we covered 4 miles although from mile 2 i was limping I'm not sure anyone noticed :)

Jim- thanks for your post, it does make you think. I always make a point of telling everyone important to me I love them before i fly, but apart from DFiance, no-one else gets a regular one. I'll work on that!

Almost a new month wahooooooooo

Hi All

It sound like everyone doing well. Congratulation on everyone who raced this weekend. I went out to do my workout. The goal was to do 21:00 walk/ 9:00 run. I was going to do 8 reps of 1:08 run/2:30 walk after warming up. I actually did more running. I lost track of my reps and started a 9th run step instead of starting cooldown. I was about 1:30 in before I started wondering why this step was taking so long. So I ended up doing 20:00 walk/ 10:30 run between warmup and cooldown.

Hey Warriors!!
Glad to see ya back Goofy57!

Great work out there Michelle, even with the ITB. I hate that - oh I posted a good video on Facebook that shows good ways to stretch that sucker!

Nice work Jeremy on working on your intervals. I find with intervals you need to work with it for some time and then see how it is going, adjust it and then stay with it for awhile before deciding if you want to change it up or if your body can change it up. (if that makes any sense)

Carrie I have a 5K on June 26th that I will be doing with a fellow WISHer Tricia.

MAY is almost over Warriors I hope you all had a good month.

** Don't forget to not post right after me when the June thread is put up - Carrie will use that spot. **

AFM: I had a good 5K this morning even though it was a bit on the warm and humid side. I was able to get a course PR, so that made my day!! This was the third time for this little local race. Turn out was 670 people! Official time was 36 min 2 sec.
