Warning if using the dining plan at Pepper Market

Just got back form Disney, so I'm not sure if this has already been posted. Just wanted to warn you about a couple of things if you are planning on using the Dining Plan at the Pepper Market:

The breakfast does not include dessert. There is no sign or anything that tells you this, but when you go to the register they tell you it is not included. The cashier did use a snack for the desserts.

We went back at night for the dinner and had pasta and dessert. The desserts that we chose were "Bakery III" items and we were told at the register that only "Bakery I" items with a value of $2.50 are allowed, so we had to pay the difference.

Both times I (very nicely) told the cashiers that they should have something in the bakery area with their rules for the dining plan. It was like I was talking to the wall because they both totally ignored what I said.

Oh well, guess you know that we did not go back there.

We got back on the 31 after being there for 10 days. I asked before I bought anything to make sure it was on the plan. You were lucky that they gave you the desserts as snacks. The only snack credits we used there were for waters and the rice crispy treats. For counter service it was still a great deal. We didn't want desserts in the morning anyway. The biscuit or muffin that came with breakfast was what they considered dessert.

Anytime I went to a counter service at any restaurant I asked what was allowed.

Breakfast at any counter service location includes the main entree and either a fruit cup, fruit, muffin, breakfast bread, and the beverage (juice, soda, etc.)
We asked before getting anything to see if it was included in the dining plan when doing counter service. Also, as for snacks, you were very lucky if they let you use the dessert for the snacks.

The point of my post was to let others know that desserts are not allowed at breakfast and that only certain desserts are allowed at lunch and dinner.

Guess I should have checked before we got the desserts, but we had eaten at Pop Century and Port Orleans earlier in the week and did not have any problem getting desserts for breakfast. In fact, at Port Orleans we got only one order of 3 beignettes and the cashier told us that we were entitled to another dessert (which we passed).

Thanks for the info. I was expecting dessert with breakfast--even if it was an extra muffin or something.

I am glad you mentioned this. We are trying to decide if CSR is right for us and I am a big breakfast pastry girl (don't like eggs). Did you prefer your stay at CSR or POFQ? DS likes the look of the CSR slide.

Thanks I really appreciate the information. Plus the tips by others about asking first. Will save on the headaches. We wanted to try it because of the other than usual CS entrees. Did you like the food and what would you suggest? Also what was the dessert that you did get? Was it worth paying more for?

Thanks :flower:

Actually, we stayed at Pop Century and went to a few different resorts for meals.

Even though we had issues with the desserts, I would recommend the food at the Pepper Market. There are several stations - Italian, Mexican, Chinese, a deli section and one station that has ribeye steaks, hamburgers, etc. Most of the food is prepared when you order it, so be prepared to wait a little for your food, especially if ordering a steak, burger, pizza, etc.

The food was pretty good. The omelets that we had were made fresh to order and were very good. For dinner DH had a pepperoni calzone, which he said was very filling. I had the penne with alfredo sauce which came with a slice of bread and had more than enough.

DH got an Oreo chocolate/white cake and I got a chocolate mousse cake for an extra $1.60 for each. They were both very good, but I would probably choose something that is free with the plan because there are so many other places that allow any dessert. Not trying to be "cheap" but why pay for something if you don't have to.

Hope this helps.

Allowable desserts at Pepper Market were cookies (hugh cookies) or a muffin. One night they were out of cookies and I was able to get a danish, we got a cinnamon bun. To be perfectly honest, after eating the food, there was no room for dessert, I brought back a ziploc with cookies! The food there is very very good. Breakfast we had eggs, omelets, mickey waffles. For lunches and dinners we had prime rib (excellent), rib steak, pizza (individual), pasta, quesidillas, and fajitas. I always ordered the adult counter service meals for my kids. My biggest complaint was the kids could only get a very small container of milk with breakfast. They didn't have the big bottles of Nesquick like the other restaurants did.

CSR was rather strict with the meal plan, but then their restaurants are outsourced and not run by disney. In another post I mentioned that the Full Service restaurant there, Maya Grill, does not fully get reimbursed for the meals. Our dinner came out to be over $100.00, and the restaurant got about 68.00, and the server got tipped on the lesser amount. We left him an appropriate cash tip.

Just ask before you order at any restaurant, and they will be glad to tell you what is and isn't allowed.

Okay, I'm truly not asking this to start anything, and I know the counter service meals include an entree/entree platter, a beverage and a dessert, but really - how many of us actually eat dessert with breakfast ordinarily?

We just returned from our trip using the dining plan. We were careful to ask what was included before we ordered/purchased anything. We only did breakfast one day on the plan and that was at POP. The "dessert" we got at breakfast was a muffin or danish. We did do lunch at the Pepper Market and were told that the dessert item was either a muffin or a cookie.

Just curious, Pepper Market is considered counter service right? If so, then can you order anything for dinner or lunch or are there limitations? What I mean is if I order the rib eye dinner, a drink & dessert will it still be considered a counter service meal? Patty

Yep still considered counter service :) Its good too lol! :goodvibes

Wow, interesting- we had meal vouchers from taking the DVC Tour and we used them at Pepper Market and we each got a huge piece of Carrot Cake- if they dont have it CLEARLY marked somewhere, they really dont have an argument for it. I would ask a manager ALWAYS before eating, we asked our waitress and she okd what we got, and than the managers were arguing about it- they said noone really KNOWS what is allowed and not- soo, just check and keep that person accountable who tells you its ok:)

Do they have a cashier that you used to check-out at the end of your meal? If they do (I've never been) but it seems as if that would be the person to ask. That CM probably goes through it everyday (what's allowed and what isn't allowed). Definitely something I'm going to check out.

Personally I thought the cs credits at the Pepper Market were a great deal -for breakfast and especially at dinner. 1 CS credit for my husbands prime rib, potato & veggie dinner plus an enormous rice crispie treat for dessert. Breakfasts were always huge - ie scrambled eggs with cheese, hash browns, bacon and sausage and a muffin. Drink refills were no problem. My daughter still raving about the cheese quesidilla that could have fed a family of four. For free! No complaints from us! Now that I think of it, Pepper Market was the only place we used our CS credits. I guess we really did love the place!

Thanks for the head's up. The issue with The Pepper Market has been discussed in the CSR thread and the MYW Dining FAQ, but both threads are pretty long. I knew what to expect when I stayed there last month. I was annoyed by the "no dessert" restriction in the morning, but I was fine with picking up muffins at lunch and dinner. I had the CM pack them up in a bakery bag and then saved them for breakfast in the room the next day. We made coffee every morning and had OJ in the fridge.

I thought the same thing but....we were able to use our OJ as the dessert (POFQ). DH and I had coffee as our beverage (didn't get refillable mugs), our meal and then the OJ was the dessert. I also have read where people get a muffin as dessert and share the CS. For instance, my pancakes came with bacon (I don't eat breakfast meat) and I would give that to my DS. I could have gotten my dessert to be a choc chip muffin and given that to him and therefore, saving a CS. We didn't need to do that so we didn't. There are various ways to use the plan and of course, some is on the interpretation.

That was a good idea! We decided to use the CS's for breakfast as we do enjoy breakfast over lunch but hadn't thought of that! Prior to going, we had planned on going to various CS's for breakfast but wound up at POFQ every morning and had no problems.
