Warning: Do Not Leave Things in Your Stroller

Sorry for your loss--we always make the mental check of having our valuables on hand--but nothing in the stroller that we would be heartbroken if it were gone.

Thanks for the warning--some may get too comfortable with leaving items,so this is a good wake up call!

It really stinks that people would target the place many people travel too because they feel it is a safe family vacation. Losing the pictures is a real bummer had a photo place give a couple of my rolls of vacation prints to the wrong people once of my kids and wife at the parks. Always hoped they would bring them back but they didn't.

We don't use fanny packs any other time but at WDW we all have one and mine is big enough for the point and shoot 35 which is not a smal model, my wallet and a few other things. I Hate to say it but I trust no one when it comes to temptation.

Sorry

Dave

Awww  that just stinks.

It really is bad when you have to go around with the theory that you can't trust people farther than you can throw them.

So sorry to hear about your loss. We have also been guilty of leaving the diaper bag in the stroller (thankfully, we've never had anything taken)!

Hope you still had a great trip!!!

Just to clarify things.....

Everything in the stoller was concealed PRIOR to even being in the park that day - so no one could have known what was in there unless they rummaged through. Also, I know that CM's move strollers.....but ours was the only one moved from this particular section, which we thought was very odd. We did file a report with Disney security and we called the Animal Kingdom lost and found. We don't expect to get anything back. What's done is done. I know now that it is worth it to bring more in to an attraction with me, even with a toddler and an infant. I'd rather have my hands extra full than lose my memories. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way. But I'm not bitter. I just want others to learn from my misfortune.

Scanne, it's a terrible thing to have happened, but you have a good attitude about it and thanks for the reminder on safeguarding our valuables.

I read somewhere once about how people would leave your stroller alone if there was a dirty diaper in/on it. :p . DW and I tried it just for fun one time. We didn't use an actual dirty diaper, but took a clean one and made good use of the residue from a :mickeybar and some Coke. (Honestly, sometimes I think we need help:tongue: ). FWIW, nobody messed with our stroller.
Even though many people are only hearing about this "trick" now, it's been around for a very long time (like 15 years that I know of). I wouldn't count on it for any security, since it is well publicized and most thieves are well aware of it. Besides, it's not very believable; no matter how well done the "trick" is, there are garbage containers all over, so why would anyone keep a dirty diaper?

Interesting - the only time I've ever had something stolen out of our stroller was also outside of Festival of the Lion King at AK Hmmmm, maybe we're onto something here...
I think the connection here is that it's a long show with a known start time. Once the people from one show have left their strollers, they are not likely to come back out for a long time and the thief knows no one is likely to come out until the end.
Also, it would not be that hard to figure out which strollers might have something hidden, no matter how well hidden. And, if the thief gets caught by someone, they can either pretend it is their own stroller and they came back out to get their video camera or pretend they mixed up strollers.

This is awful, I feel really bad for you. I guess we all think that because it is Disney world that this kind of thing happens, just because people step through into the magic they don't change from the cheating theiving people that they are every day of the week.
I hope your insurance covers your losses.

Ummmm.... I wasn't exactly issuing hardcore advice; more like passing along a humorous (I hope) story. Thanks, though, for the history on the old trick. Who knew it dated back 15 years?

I'm so sorry this happened to you. What a bummer!

Another heads up here... keep track of your Pal Mickey doll. There were a few Mouse-nappings reported here on the boards as well -- usually left in strollers -- and sometimes well concealed.

It does stink that anyone would do this. I think that the shows are the most likely attractions to have stroller thievery. The thief knows that you will most likely not show up to claim your stroller until after the show so they have the pick of the litter of goodies in the strollers.

So, especially when going to a show, don't leave ANYTHING in your stroller.

Yes there is thiefs in the world. This is just a remeber that all people is not good heart people.

I for one is not leave anything of value in my hotel room or in the stoller.

You put a lot of things in it to show you were posting it as a humerous story, but I have seen past threads where people have taken the "diaper trick" as "hard core" advise. Just wanted to make clear that it's not really much of a deterent, since some people do take it as a good "trick" to try.

I'm not a thief, but I've seen them in action in touristed places times past counting. There is no surprise in this news; the only thing that surprises me is that someone would actually believe that it might be safe to leave several hundred dollars worth of camera equipment unguarded in a crowded public place.

I can tell you right now how they found those cameras: with their feet. They simply entered a stroller area, looked for strollers with loaded baskets, and kicked the baskets. When they hit one with the right "clunk" sound, they knew they had a probable good find. From there it was a simple matter to move it out of the rank and over into the dino trail in order to search it carefully. Once finished with the search, they parked it where it would be easily found.

My advice when using a stroller is *don't use the basket*! Put the things you need into a backpack and drape it on the stroller handles where you can grab it quickly for rides. If there is nothing in the basket, you won't be tempted to leave anything in it, and you will always be able to fold your stroller quickly when you need to.

NotUrsula -- Thanks for the info and the advice. It helps to know how the thieves work so we can protect ourselves. And it makes so much sense I don't know why I didn't think of it.

The only thing we've had taken from our stroller was the "Unofficial Guide to WDW!" No one wanted the sippy cups. :smooth:
