We are looking to try some new places to eat, but with my sons Peanut/Tree Nut allergy it is always scary. I know Disney is Great with the allergies, we have been taking my son since he was 10 months old and Disney had never let us down. I am looking for anyone that has had any experience with these restaurant with a Peanut/Tree Nut Allergy;

Chefs De France
Raglan Road
Captains Grille

Thanks for the Help.:)

I've had peanut and shellfish for a long time and became allergic to soy about a year ago. DD used to have a dairy allergy but she's mostly fine now.

At Raglan Road, the manager came out and talked to us. He had a nifty spreadsheet on his iphone that went over what allergens were in what product. That being said, I'm not as worried about cross contamination as some need to be (I have to actually eat the offending foods to have a reaction).

Chefs De France was fine for us, but I found them to not be as super careful as other places.

I don't know if any of these are to your liking, but we had great experiences at Teppan Edo (no peanuts in anything), Mama Melrose (with Chef Christian, who must have come to the table 5 times to go over things) and Kouzzina (Chef George made a special breakfast because the potatoes were cooked in vegetable oil).

Good luck!
Mary

I've eaten at Chefs de France once and will never return. It's not that anything was unsafe, it's that the server and chef were rude, uncaring, treated us like we were putting them out and didn't offer any options other than leaving the bun off DD's burger and giving her a salad without dressing (different allergies). We go to WDW partly because of how great the restaurants are with food allergies and how many options our kids can actually have to eat. I'm not about to waste our time and money on a place that can't be bothered to hold themselves up to the same standard. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I haven't eaten at the other 2 but they are on my list that I'd consider based on reviews.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll pass on Chefs De France, we ate there once over 9 years ago before my son. I wasn't to crazy about it back then, but I thought of trying it again, but we will pass. I'm not sure about giving Raglan a try, we can't have any cross contamination, my son just had another Peanut test and they can't believe how big it keeps getting. His tree nut was low 2 years ago, but with this last test it went up again.

We have done MaMa Melrose often, and did enjoy it. Maybe we will go back to what we know and trust. I panic whenever he eats new things. Plus it was on my list to make reservations, so we will stick with what we know.

We are going to;

Coral Reef
The Plaza
Sci Fi
Tutto
Le Cellier

And I'll make ressies for MaMa Melrose and Grand Florida Cafe. My DD wants to do Crystal Place again, maybe I'll do that too.

Thanks again everyone!:)

I just realized you had said Captain's Grille. For some reason I read that as California Grill. I haven't eaten there yet but I have 2 ADRs for our upcoming trip (1 breakfast, 1 dinner). We're staying at YC for the first time so our plan is to take advantage of the restaurants that are convenient to our resort. I did speak with a chef from Captain's Grille a couple years ago when I was trying to find out about CS options at YC when we were considering a stay back then and I was very comfortable with his knowledge. I'm not in the least bit worried about dining there and in fact I'm quite looking forward to it.

The non-Disney run restaurants can be hit or miss, but the Disney owned/run ones seem to go out of their way.

Many in Epcot are not run by Disney. I know for sure Mexico, Italy, and France are not, there are a few more. I'd stick with the Disney run locations unless you see recent reports of the staff being over the top helpful with allergies at the non Disney run ones.

We did Chefs de France about 2-3 years ago with my son who has peanut/tree nut and severely allergic and had a fine experience. The chef did not come out but I thought the server handled it well and I felt fine about it. I'm very sensitive to making sure he is safe so there you go.

Have you tried Teppan Edo? We love that place - very fun.

DD is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. We haven't taken her to Chefs or RR, but we've eaten at Capt Grille several times. We really like it there. We've always had good food and service. We ate there twice in April, once for dinner and once for breakfast. DD was thrilled with breakfast because there were cinnamon rolls on the buffet that were safe. Usually, pastries and things like that are made elsewhere and therefore, they can't guarantee that they're safe. I think DD went up to the buffet two or three times for cinnamon rolls. :laughing:

Thank you so much! My DS would be thrilled if he could have any kind of pastry that I didn't have to make.:) It's so hard when the rest of the family can have it and he can't. I would love to try Captains Grille. That will be one of our new places to try:thumbsup2 Thank You for all information!

You probably already know this, but make sure to contact Special Diets prior to your trip. They will email you a form to send back to them. When I filled out the form, I made a note about how great it would be for DD to be able to have something sweet for breakfast. I don't know if the safe cinnamon rolls are always on their buffet, or if it was because I mentioned it. So make sure you put that on your form as well.

Also, Tusker House character breakfast has Krispy Kreme doughnuts, which are also nut-free. We ate there in April and I let DD have 4 doughnuts that morning. :scared1:

I know that scare felling, even though you know its safe. My son keeps telling me to relax, I can't. I have been afraid to have him eat in AK. We did eat at Flame Tree and I was a wreak the whole time. I just associate AK with using peanuts/tree nuts.

Do you know how I can contact Special Diets. I usually just note on my ADR's and then speak to the Chefs when we get there. I know if I call ahead I can get special request I just haven't done it. I spoke with Brenda way back, but I kn ow now she isn't doing it anymore. So I don't know how to contact them.

Thank You again!:)

I'm pretty sure there's a link to Special Diets on the Disney website. I think the email address is SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com, but I'm not 100% sure.
