Want to sell Festiva to buy more DVC

We have owned DVC for several years now and would really love more points.

My in-laws gave us a timeshare from Festiva Adventure Club a few weeks ago. I have no idea on how to use them, and really just want to sell them ASAP to buy more at Disney! I have done a quick search, but didn't find much information about Festiva. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

The contract says Festiva Adventure Club, Corporate Elite Member. We have yearly points.

Is it best to call Festiva directly and ask how to sell? Or, are there resell companies you recommend? I know when we are shopping for more DVC points, there are a couple of sites that look like a good option to buy from, if we don't go directly through Disney.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated!

i'm afraid it doesn't look good. DVC is unusual in holding it's value pretty well at resale. many timeshares are tough to sell on ebay for a dollar. you'll probably have to think in terms of giving it away:

festiva will likely not be any help in trying to resell. if you are not committed to paying extra for onsite stays, you might find you can get good deals in interval international by trading your festiva for orlando marriotts or sheraton timeshares. you should probably check out TUG for more information:

the main thing is avoiding scam artists who offer to sell or rent your timeshare in exchange for upfront fees. they will often claim to have a buyer or renter lined up, but it's all garbage.

but yeah, doing some searches on tug, followed up by questions if you have them, is a great place to start.

I would give it back to the in-laws.

They probably thought that they were being nice, or maybe they didn't want to deal with getting rid of it.

The same things happens with the DVC. People will post that they are buying large contracts to leave with their family when they are gone but will the family have an interest in the DVC?

Thank you all so much. I knew I could ask here and get some real advice! I had no idea what Festiva was, but the more I look in to it, I think we need to do whatever it takes to get away from it as soon as we can. I would hate to hand it back to them, I know their hearts were in the right place. We will fix it...

I would tell them thanks for the offer, it means a lot, you love them but you are really wanting more DVC points.

If you keep it you will have to do a legal transfer and meet all contractual requirements and if monies are due, you will have to pay.

I had a neighbor who an a timeshare he could not get rid of for years. He finally called the timeshare (I wish I could recall the company) and they said he could do one of two things. Stop paying the maintenance fees and they'd seize it or he could just sign over the title to them. He took option two. He did not get any cash for it, but stopped the drain of the fees.

If you haven't taken it already, I'd say no thanks. If it's already in your name, I'd spend the time to learn about it and maybe use it. I'm not that familiar with festiva (stayed at one of their resorts) but you should be able to find some info over at TUG (Timeshare Users Group). I do know it's points based. Pertinent questions would include the following.

• Is Interval included for exchange?
• How many points and how they work including is there a home resort window.
• Fees including maint fees, club dues and transaction/cancelation fees.
• Do you see resorts on their list that interest yo.

If it's in your name already, learning and using it is often the best choice in this situation.

I don't know anything about Festiva either but it has been showing up on the RCI site. So don't know if it is switching to RCI or doing both (II) or something else entirely. Just commenting because I don't recall ever seeing it on RCI until a short time ago - could be wrong though.

I totally agree with Dean! My parents owned a Wyndham points based timeshare and I took the time to learn the system and used it many times - it was a great compliment to our DVC. My parents (since they never used it) ended up trading it to a time share they love and use. I was so bummed! I am now researching getting our own timeshare to compliment DVC. TUG is a great resource. Good luck

They have some pretty decent resorts in some good places. It's not the system I'd have gone for out of the blue but it in intriguing. We really enjoyed out stay at Church Street Inn. We did do their tour but it's been a while and this was before they introduced their points system.

We too have a Festiva timeshare as well as DVC. For us, it actually works. We trade in our points to Interval International and have had excellent luck with staying in both Orlando and other places. We are actually using II for a Marriott resort later this week (Orlando.) We have also used it in Las Vegas, Branson, New Orleans, Southern California, Colorado and the Florida Coast.

Thank you for posting, it makes me feel better! After these reply's and looking around a bit on the other site that was recommended, I think we will hang on to it for a year or two and see how it goes. I didn't know about the exchange with Interval International, so that sounds like something we need to learn about.
