Want a new camera...

Do you think this would be a step up from the Canon A75 that I currently have?

Should I just try to shoot the fireworks with 400 speed film in my canon EOS Rebel? (Rebel X?) Something like that.

Which "mode" is best for night shots? (And which film? What about motion?
Thank you all SO much for your help!

You will definately need a tripod, or have the camera braced very solidly, as EB suggests. I think 400 film would be fine. Whne I shot film, I rarely shot 800 speed. The Rebel likely be more flexible in the way of shutter speed and aperture than the A75. I don't recall the settings on the Rebel. I you aren't comforatable going completely manual, I would look at night scene modes.

However, I really think that with practice, and set on Fireworks mode, the A75 could do the job. I would not go out an invest in another p/s digital camera. Your A75 is probably a bit better than the Kodak, but p/s digitals are pretty much all the same. Don't get sucked into the higher megapixels=better. Unless you are printing 8x10 prints or larger, you will not see a difference in megapixels above 3Mega. Again, the camera is just a tool for taking pictures, its the photographer that actualy makes a good photo.
