Walt Warriors

Amanda - Nice job on the long run. That about the pace I did my long run. Good luck training for the goofy.

Sarah - That quite exciting news on the move. Hope the baby is going well. I've visited Toronto once. I thought it was a very nice city.

AFM - This weekend was speedwork. I did 10x800 at an average pace of 11:06. Overall they varied from 11:16-10:54 and the faster ones were at the end so it was a fairly sucessful outing. My goal spring half is in 3 weeks. I'm still trying to decide how fast to go at the start.

Sunday was my 1/2 marathon. The weather was warm. I wore a tank top and skirt with no throw aways and was perfectly comfortable before the start! I think pre-start temps were mid 60s and by the finish it was in the 70s. A little warm for my liking!
It was a fun but hilly race. I was hoping for a PR but with the temps being unseasonably warm I started conservatively. My finish was 2:38:24 - about 2 min off from a PR. I was a little disappointed as I won't probably be racing for a PR again for a while (fall races are during Goofy training so I'll likely go easy). On the other hand I felt I ran a good race and did what I could on that day.

Congratulations, Amanda! Maybe you didn't get a PR, but you rock! :cool1:

I got an "ANTI-PR" in the Charleston Cooper River Bridge Run....my slowest race since I started running in 2008. Something tells me that the sponsors at the Expo might have had some effect: Budweiser, Naked Grape Wine, Blue Moon, people with margarita mixers....

That sounds like MY kind of race!!!!:rotfl:

Amanda - Congratulations on the half marathon. I know heat can really slow you down. My half is in two weeks and the long range forecast is for warm and rainy.

Cari - Congratulation on the race even if it didn't go as planned.

AFM - I got my last long run in for my half in two weeks. It was supposed to be 15 miles and I went 15 miles. But, I started off a little bit fast and ended up going a little bit faster so I started my cooldown early. Not counting warmup and cooldown, I did 13.4 miles at a13:23 pace. The 10 miles is the middle was at a 13:15 pace. My slow goal is about a 12:58 and my realistic goal is a 12:30 pace. Today's run start at 60 degrees and it was just above 70 at the end. So for the next 2 weeks it's taper. I'll try to keep the speed up but cut back on the mileage.

Hi Warriors,

Sorry I have been away for awhile.

We have our Kentucky mini-marathon on the 28th. :cool1: It should be alot of fun, and we walk into Churchill Downs. Hopefully we will see some of the horses. We have decided to fly instead of driving the two days. This is great so we are not sitting in the car for all those hours.
The only problem is my hip has been hurting for the past couple of weeks. I already have an orthopedic appointment when I get back. I was trying the Galloway so I will just do my normal walk.

Hope everyone is doing well with their training and races.

Kathy

Happy Saturday Warriors!

Hope all is well with everyone today.

Amanda -- nice job and congratulations on your 1/2 Marathon. A very nice effort. :)

Afm - still in training for the upcoming Florida 70.3. I still have some swelling in my right ankle, but it is what it is.......

It's 4 weeks away, but due to upcoming family obligations, I really only have about 2 weeks of training time left, so I'm trying to train as hard as I can in the little time I have left. Lots of bike time mostly ( with some bike / run bricks) because I think that will do me the most good overall.

One thing I've found out in all this-- training for one of these silly things takes a ton of TIME! Upwards of 3-4 hours a day sometimes. Ack! Fortunately I have a work schedule that allows me to do this. If I had a "real job" I don't know how I'd get it done. Hats off to those that do!

Guess that's it for now. Y'all have a great time and stay safe!

Kathy - I hope your hip feels better!
Jim - Take care of that ankle! You are amazing!

Amanda

Amanda - Thanks for the kind words. It's definately seems to have been a 2 steps forward 1 step back process.

Kathy - Good luck on the Kentucky Derby Half. It's a shame that your hip has started bothering you. I had some hip problems after doing relay for life in the past. Taking it easy seemed to help it fairly well.

Jim- Good luck on your continued training. I understand what you say about time. I'm only training for a half marathon and my last long run took almost 3 1/2 hours, probably closer to 4 - 4 1/2 if you add in travel time and shower afterwards.

AFM - I'm not sure if I'm officially in "taper mode" yet. Monday, I did a 4 mile early mile race rehersal. After a half mile warmup I did 2 mile at a run 1:00/Walk 1:00 ratio. It came in real close to a 13:00 mile. On the 2 mile trip back I switched to 1:30/1:00 and by the end I was doing almost an 11:45 pace. I was shooting for closer to a 12:30 with that ratio. I was letting my run interval get away from me a little bit. By the end, I knew the pace I was going wasn't systainable for 13.1 miles.

Wednesday will be an easy run, then over the weekend, I do a 10K race rehersal.

The weather forecast on accuweather is still bouncing all over the place. Yesterday it was saying warm 58 low/75 high and sunny for race day. Today it's saying 43 low/ 62 high and showers.

56 mile bike ride in 3hours 1 minute.

That is all.

Best to everyone!

Hi Everyone,
I posted grades for all my classes, so now it's time to get back to running more regularly again. I have gotten so slow, so fast! (That sounds funny, now that I typed it!)

We made our hotel reservations for Tower of Terror in the fall, so now it's time to buckle down.

On a related note, so proud of my kids' elementary school. They have started a running and walking club, and we'll be doing a 5K together in two weeks. The kids meet three mornings a week before school, and the retired high school cross country coach comes out at recess another day. Isn't great how they are teaching these kids to be healthy and strong?!

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Cheers,
Cari

Cari, what the school is doing is awesome.

Take things slow and easy until you have a good base. Don't want injuries.

Hi everyone. Training is done for my half marathon tomorrow. Right now, the forecast is for about 60 at the start and a little over 70 by the finish and partly cloudy. So, warm but not hot. I've been trying to get out this week to get used to the warmer weather.

John -- That's great advice about taking it slow. Now that I have free time I feel like I want to go out and kick it, but you're right. I'm 42...I need to ease back gently!

Jeremy -- Best wishes for a great race!

Happy Friday, y'all.

Cheers,
Cari

Good luck Jeremy! I'm sure you'll be great!

Cari - Hopefully I'll meet you at ToT! Where are you staying?

Amanda

I finished my half marathon yesterday. The weather didn't cooperate with me and I ended up finishing in 2:52:45, 1:43 short of my PR of 2:51:02. I've posed a short trip report here and a more detailed report here.

Jeremy--congratulations. :cool1: Sounds like a challenging day with the way the weather was.
