I believe you should be fine without the flex option. You would probably just have to pay the difference to get the ticket up to whatever the current selling price is when you go to apply it to the AP renewal in May 2020. The flex option on your free dining ticket would require you to use the first day by 12/31/19. After 12/31/19, the flex ticket would also be expired and need to be addressed in person at WDW.I just read through all 19 pages of this thread and haven't seen my question asked, so here goes. I have an AP that currently expires the end of this February. I don't have another trip planned until May, so I am going to let my AP expire. I would like to purchase a new AP in May because I have several later trips planned. BUT I have a free dining package for September. Is there any way that I can save the package ticket and use it when I renew the AP next May? Would adding the flex option allow me to do that? Thanks!
As @rteetz mentioned, you should make sure your AP is prioritized before the free dining ticket so it does not accidentally get used instead. You could also move the free dining ticket to another guest and let it sit there in MDE without ever touching it and then transfer it back to yourself.
I would also check out the All About TICKETS & Upgrades thread for more info.
