I thought of this post when I was at DW all last week. DH and I are not "drinkers" We may have a beer each once a year, have some champagne on New Years, and a glass of wine on Easter and Christmas...

On vacation to Disney, I got a Glowtini at Boma, we had strawberry margaritas in Mexico while watching Illuminations, we split a german beer in a souvenier glass and walked around with it (we picked the first one of the list, it was cold and refreshing). Our 18yo son collects shot glasses and he bought about twenty different ones while on vacation. We charged all this to our room key...Disney must think we are such lushes! lol

I did not see anyone intoxicated, but a lady was very rude to me bc my 18yo smokes...hello? He is 18!

Fact - spilled beer is smelly.
Fact - spilled beer is really smelly when it's hot & humid.

The OP didn't have a problem with having a beer. The OP has a problem with "Go Cups" being available (& encouraged) in Disney Parks.

Op didn't say there were drunks at the park.
Op didn't say people having a drink were common.

OP said adults walking around with filled beers is (or can be) smelly.
OP said that the walking around a park with filled beers is "common" (& imo not very family like). i agree with her.

OP is entitled to her opinion.

& so am i.....Disney should allow folks to have a drink in a restaurant (or bar). But should not allow (or encourage) "to go" cups or encourage the strolling thru crowds of people with cups full of alcohol beverages.

I don't care if you don't like people telling you what you can or can't do.

I don't care that Eisner decided to sell beer from carts.

I don't want to smell beer on the ground when it's 88 degrees in Orlando.

IMO Disney Parks should have separate areas for drinking &/or smoking. & I think that is what Walt would want too. & possibly the OP.

My opinion is that the majority of people on this thread bashed the OP & mis-stated the OP for stating she doesn't like the smell of stale beer on the sidewalk of Disney parks.

She never said she wanted to ban the sale of beer. She said she didn't want adults walking around sloshing it thru the parks. 10 pages of posts (that i've read) I've read from people that state:

- "They'll take my beer from me when the pry my dead fingers off...."
- "I will decide what & where I'll drink my sloshy beer in front of my children & your children."

There are 10 pages of posts where folks mis-read the OP & have spouted OPINIONS.

My two little posts show my opinions as well...so I guess you're right, "I sure am opinionated".

But...I know & you know & i know that you know that Disney makes money on beer sales & will continue to allow folks to waddle thru the park sloshing their beer around in "to go" cups. But it doesn't make it right.

I believe the OPs comment that Walt didn't want beer in the park. If true, he'd probably not want tourists walking around his park with families with big cups of beer.

BUT....Frankly, it's not a big deal to me (neither are smokers). But piling on the OP, & making mistatements towards this person is cr*p. & I like to call people on it. Smells kind of like stale beer. (darn....there's another opinion. )

I'll see if I can find my photo of "Hangover Harry", a guy we saw sitting outside the Rose & Crown one summer, obviously drunk and sleeping it off. My kids gave him the nickname.

And I must also mention the time that I was leading a group of DISers on an official "Drink Around The World" and Disney security followed our group around the World Showcase. They even stopped us a couple of times to remind us to drink responsibly.

Other than Hangover Harry, I've never witnessed any drinking "problems" at WDW.

I aslo think its fantastic that you and the OP use the word common to describe all the rabble beneath you. The kings english is just not used in the 'common' vernacular enough to disparage others.

I agree with the original poster: Walt Disney probably would not have allowed alcohol in his parks. I assume he could have sold booze from the very beginning (Disneyland in Los Angeles, then later Disneyworld), but apparently he didn't.


I see where Six Flags over Texas in Arlington has announced that it will start serving beer in its park.

The OP used the word common to describe the ACTION of walking thru the nicest family park in the world.....with a TO-GO cup filled with beer in an adult's hand. (not the people who do it). The behavior / action is "common" not the people. (so are wife beater t shirts on grown men....but that's a different topic).

When I ride Mr. Toad, I act very CHILDISH. But elsewhere, few people would use CHILDISH as a word to describe me. (i bet alot of folks reading this thread would use a few choice other words to describe me.

Walt was a visionary & with him they broke the mold..... & none of us can really "speak" for him.....on that i suspect we all agree. Once or twice a year I enjoy his vision, as i'm sure everyone else here does as well.

I drink responsibly and have NEVER spilled beer on anybody.

However, I did have a waiter at one of the more upscale restaurants in WDW spill an entire tray of wine glasses on me.

Perhaps we should ban the waiters at WDW as they are so "common".

I have had more than one sticky, drippy Mickey Bar stuck to me. And I have had my fair share of sticky sodas spilled on me.

Definitely we need to limit the selling of sodas, lemonades, ice cream bars to sit down restaurants as they might be spilled on somebody if you try to walk around with them.

Alcohol has been available in Disneyland at Club 33 since it opened. I know that it is a private venue but it is sold there. WDW was built after Mr. Disney died so he had no say in that.

I love it when people discuss what Walt wanted. He did enjoy a cocktail on a regular basis. What makes you think that he would be opposed to alcohol served in a place like WS? Isn't it true to the themeing of the Germany pavilion that people walk around with a beer??

I'm sure this will open a can of worms, but part of the reason my DH and I love Disney is that it's a multi-generational place. There's things for kids to enjoy as well as adults. Part of what we love about EPCOT is trying the different restaurants and different types of alcohol they serve. If Disney started removing alcohol from all the parks and made everything entirely kid friendly (I know no one has said this, it's just a hypothetical) less people will go there. I'm not saying that alcohol is that important persay, but if you start removing things adults will enjoy, less will come.

FTR, I'm not a big drinker. Whether or not alcohol is served will not determine how I spend my vacation dollars. Whether or not there are things we will enjoy as adults, will. We were disappointed that the Norway restaurant is now Character dining and that the Nemo ride now takes over most of what used to be a really cool aquarium. I fully understand that there was a demand for more Character dining, but it still was disappointing to see.

In my opinion, perfume should be banned from the parks. You only need perfume if you don't bathe, and it bothers my asthma too. And they should definately close the shop in the France pavillion that sells it. My mothers uncles cousins sister best friend said that Walt did not care for perfume. He thought it was common. And as it offends me as well, and my happiness is the only thing that is important, I say we ban perfume!

What? You say Walt wore Aqua Velva? I don't believe it!

Seriously though. I don't understand people who let the littlest thing bother them so much. It is not like you are being forced to drink. People drink alcohol. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that everyone else should have to abstain from drinking. If every single thing was banned that annoyed someone, we would have a big, empty park.

If they are banning liquor from the parks, strollers better be next. It's not really used to haul children around. It's used to haul the crap that people buy around while plowing down innocent people in front of them or trying to tap the back of ankles to make them go faster for the stroller.

I certainly understand business & I know that beer has been sold in EPCOT for years ... but having tons of people walking around w/ beer is dirty, smelly, & common. WDW's joy is largely in the fact that it's not like anywhere else in the world. Now it is. It smells like Six Flags now. Blecch. And I saw 2 people spill beer on children while I was there.

The OP also used the words dirty and smelly. Most people are going to "assume" that if the action is dirty, smelly and common then the people doing it are the same. That is what was getting everyone up in arms.

Now if one has a nice glass of chardonnay or a margarita is that action also dirty, smelly and common or do we move up the snooty ladder for having a classier drink?
