Walt Disney rolling over in his grave

Just came back from WDW & was HORRIFIED to see that guests are now not only allowed but ENCOURAGED to walk around the parks (assuming MK is exception) with beers. A guest who was having a beer w/ his lunch & didn't want to walk w/ it was almost clubbed over the head by a CM to take a cup. Even that guest was stunned & none too pleased.

I distinctly remember Mr. Disney talking about one of his inspirations for Disneyland being the overwhelming smell of beer at the parks to which he took his children for outings. That's why you couldn't get alcohol in the parks for so long.

When did THIS start? It was just disgusting and I hope Disney rethinks this policy.

I really don't see a problem with this. EPCOT has beer stands all over selling different beers from the different countries. I see no problem with taking a beer from the restaurant to finish it. Of course, you can't take any beverages on rides and you can't leave the park with an alcoholic beverage.

When I'm on vacation I tend to focus on my own activities as opposed to the activities of others. Unless somebody dumps their beer on me, we're cool....

It's been the policy at all parks except MK for years now.

At Epcot they sell 'to-go' alcoholic drinks in each country. The UK Rose & Crown has a bar right out front as you walk by that sells big tall beers in plastic glasses.

Personally other than the Food & Wine Festival, this has never been much of an issue for me. I just don't see that much of it.

Perhaps it is a function of when I travel.

I don’t have an issue with it either...I love trying all the different beverages from different countries and see nothing wrong with a responsible adult having a drink...and Have to admit I would love to have a champagne toast while eating in the castle or a glass of wine at Tony’s…as for Walt, I also remember him talking about How i could live in EPCOT...I guess plans evolve...bottom line…alcohol is a big money maker

I certainly understand business & I know that beer has been sold in EPCOT for years ... but having tons of people walking around w/ beer is dirty, smelly, & common. WDW's joy is largely in the fact that it's not like anywhere else in the world. Now it is. It smells like Six Flags now. Blecch. And I saw 2 people spill beer on children while I was there.

I personaly think it's great that you can walk around with a beer. I'm from Canada where it is pretty restricted where you can drink so it's nice to walk free in the world and drink.

Your Six Flags must be nicer than mine. My Six Flags smells like weed and vomit. Oh, and garbage that has been out in the sun for too long.

Too funny that you get worked up over this. We go every year to Disney and never had a problem with folks enjoying some drinks there.

We do it also. And it is not just beer. Folks drink wine, and other stuff..

Why are you so worried about other people? The smell? Please... There is no more smell then all the foods, cologne, diapers, kid vomit and all the other things that 40,000 folks generate when crammed into a park..

You got smokers in that mix also...

Yet having a beer in Epcot makes Walt Disney spin in his grave?

Doubt it

We look forward to our afternoon or evening at Epcot just so we can walk around and have a couple of beers. We do it at the Boardwalk too. I don't think I've ever seen anyone visibly drunk at WDW.

I would agree at $5 a beer, it's a nice money maker for Disney.

I've never actually noticed any negative drinking behaviour at Disney, not even on our F&W festival trip. It seems like at WDW, people are much more mature about drinking than they are in the real world (though that might just be a function of the drink prices!!). But I don't think just walking around with a beer or wine or Grey Goose slushie is a bad thing. Drinking only rises to the level of problematic in my mind when it crosses into sloppyness and obvoius intoxication.

I like how you can try different drinks at EPCOT, I really don't think this is a problem, as I have NEVER smelled alcohol while just walking around. I have rarely seen a drunk person either.

:rotfl: Mine too!!

King's Island near Cincinnati, OH I believe just instituted a policy whereby beer is restricted to restaurants and the immediate vicinity. I would hate to think that KI actually is a little more kid-friendly than WDW! My family and I appreciate the family, i.e. non-beer, section of the ballpark and would like to think WDW is the same. Drink if you must, just don't slosh it around all over me and my kids.

Same here, my tolerance is 2 beers, thats about it for me.;)

I would much rather see someone enjoying a beer or glass of wine then puffing on a cigarette in Epcot. As long as they are not drunk and bothering me let them spend the money. If they are drunk and out of hand then they get reported and kicked out. no big deal

I have to have a beer at EPCOT, Its a family tradition. ( ok except the kids)

On our last trip to Epcot I saw some really intoxicated people in the World Showcase stumbling around with their beer. Wondered where Disney security was. It was so evident that my daughter remarked that weren't Disney parks created for children - not so people can get totally loaded!

When one has had so much to drink and they can barely walk- when does disney draw the line?

One of the reasons for us going to WDW is the freedom of alcohol, except the MK. Alcoholic beverages are served everywhere except the MK, and everywhere it is. Pool bars, interior lounges, meals its everywhere. We enjoy going down to our pool and taking our small cooler with a few beverages, nothing glass and enjoying the sun and Disney. Popping over to FW to Crocketts Tavern for pitchers of beer and pizza is a ritual for us. I usually pop for a couple of beers while the wife and grown children do RNR and TOT in MGM, I sit in the Farmers Market and chug down a couple to cool off.

I feel there is nothing wrong with the way Disney handles their alcohol sales, its a huge money making position, in my honest opinion patrolled quite well. I've seen a few have a huge good time but never obnoxious. I've seen worse behavior from people who weren't even drinking. As for the smells, ain't any, just the pleasant aroma of foods and Disney in the air.

My suggestion is to not try to change the world but go with it, Disney is a go as you please and I don't believe Walt would be turning in person or his grave.

As a commoner, I enjoy having a dirty, smelly beer or two while strolling around Epcot for a little evening romance with my stinky husband. :cloud9: :goodvibes
