Hey ya'll! I'm kind of new to the budget board, but have been lurking and gotten some great ideas! You all are great!
Thought I would pass along something I just discovered. Walmart has an app called "savings catcher". Every time you go to Walmart, you scan your receipt into the app. Within 3 days, they e-mail you the results of their search. They check all advertisers in your area, and if the price is lower anywhere, they put it on a gift card for you! You can also redeem it another way, but I'm just starting and haven't checked it all out yet. My first receipt gave me $2.33 back!:yay:

I hope someone else finds this useful!:yay:

Out of 16 receipts, I've only received $1.66 back. I guess it's better than nothing, but still disappointing. I guess it goes to show that Walmart has the lowest prices.

We started doing it when the program began (dh works for Wal-Mart). In 2014 we got just over $76 back. I cashed it out at the first of the year - we're going to see how much we 'make' in a whole year. Should be interesting.

Great program - and if you find a cheaper price you can input it - they didn't price match Aldi's bananas so I put it in and a few weeks (it took awhile) later they sent me an e-gift card for 37 cents

I have entered two receipts and first time got 4.66 and the second one was 3.56. If you get a bluebird card from Walmart and put the money on that they double it. I got one and have like $18 and change on it with only two receipts.

7 receipts and I have $8.44. 3 times there were no better prices! Luckily, I only have to go to Walmart about once a month for a few items I can't get other places. We relocated to FL in August and I have a super Target just a few miles down the road!

18 receipts and my grand total is 40 cents, which was all on the first one I entered.
I was thinking this might turn out to be a good program for me, so I kept entering them in. I probably will continue for a little while longer, especially since my new phone is able to scan the qr codes (the old one could scan other qr codes, but that part of the app didn't work on it.)
But my hopes aren't high anymore.

I love this app! I have over 38.00 sitting there for whenever I decide to cash it in. :cool1:

The only real complaint I have with the app is that it doesn't price match local (based) competitors even though I put in my zip code. For example...it doesn't match up against Hy-Vee or Fareway which aren't national chains. I always price match against those manually at the register so it's not a big deal but it would be nice to be able to have those on there as well.

It's (so far) a pretty nifty app! :thumbsup2

I have been doing it since August and have $70 back. I also use any free ads that get mailed to me and write down those deals and then scan the ad for anything that I don't get. I have also noticed my weekly bill has dropped in addition to the money I get back. I always like seeing what I get back and even though it only averages out to be a few dollars each week, it is better than nothing:goodvibes

There are so many exclusions that I still price match at the register. Most general merchandise items, including toys, are excluded by the app but will be matched at the register.

Also, it only matches ads for the "top retailers" in your area. We have a lot of smaller stores that aren't included in the app.

I make my list and note the price and what store it's at. At the register, I put all my Walmart price items first. That way my cart is empty and I can tell the clerk what the match price is. If I have a lot, I do tell anyone behind me that it may take a bit longer since I'm matching prices.

You do not need to bring the ads with. Only once have they questioned me (it was NY Strip steak for $3.99/lb) so I brought the ad up on my phone. No problem.

I've saved $280 since July using savings catcher. Last week I got a ton of Barilla plus pasta for $0.04/box before coupons. I also got Ragu for $0.32/jar. I won't love it as much when they stop doubling but I'll still use it. I will just shift some of my purchases back to Kroger where I get 6% off and fuel points.
ETA: They are still doubling for the next six weeks if you have Bluebird (which also was eligible for the 3 $10 small business credits this year so I'm glad I got one). When the sales ads come out I scour them to find big price differences since those will be doubled (pasta on sale for $1 at Kroger vs. $1.98 at Walmart, for example). I've gotten a lot of stuff practically free doing this.

They've missed a few things and when I've sent emails they denied my appeal. I generally test it when the sale first starts (so if something goes on sale on Wednesday that I need I'll buy at Walmart Wednesday and then once my receipt is processed and I confirm they are matching it I'll stock up).

Ive been using the app since Sept and since then, I have gotten nearly $120 back and when I transferred it to the Blue Bird card, AMEX doubled it. So yay me! Ive noticed when they find a lower price, it's usually at places like CVS or Walgreens, which I never shop at anyway. So I think it's a win for me.

I've been using this since September and have about $32, which before the end of February I will double using Bluebird.

Fortunately, there are many stores in my area that they match, including Aldi and I don't mind buying things like a 12 pack of coke products at walmart when it is not on sale and i need it because I know it is on sale somewhere and they will match it.

If you buy a lot of walmart brand items it won't help you but I love that it matches produce prices too.

I wondered if they were going to start matching things like toys because it always shows Toys R Us as a place they price match too in the app.

My dad has a few dollars racked up on there, but I've scanned like 7 receipts and saved... $.26. I guess my orders are too big, and now I know I got the lowest price? :confused3

I only shop at Wal-Mart to price match and get the loss leaders at other places from them. Just cuts down on all my running around. I have had some cashiers tell me I can just do the savings catcher, but umm, sorry I rather not spend the money to begin with than get a Wal-Mart gift card. I will scan my receipt too. Sometimes I'm surprised that something I bought was lower somewhere else (usually an impulse buy). So far I have $10 built up, but hey $10 in my pocket is better than in theirs. I'm going to save mine up for when we go on vacation then use the gift card:).

Yes, I started using this last month! We only go to walmart every once in awhile but in December I ended up with almost $5 back and the receipt I scanned on Saturday I got $1.34 back! Better than nothing!

5 receipts - $6.38

It compares mine to Food Lion so if I bought canned soup or lunchmeat I seem to always get some back there.

I just scanned another receipt this morning. I bought a bunch of dog food so that's one I might get back. I'm not going to say no if they want to give me money back.

I've scanned 9 receipts and have $1.36 waiting for me. I have a few questions:

Probably 75% of my groceries come from Hy-Vee (teen son works there) so I'm interested in how you manually price match?

Can you explain a little more the bolded part? thanks!

What is the Bluebird card?

Bluebird is a card from Amex with no fees that I guess is like a prepaid debit card. The advantages are your savings catcher savings is doubled through February. Also, bluebird was eligible for small business Saturday so this year they reimbursed 3 eligible $10 transactions. I have saved $140 using savings catcher and had that doubled with bluebird which has gotten me a lot of groceries practically free. I'll be sad in March when the promotion is over.

I had been doing it for awhile and let it accumulate to $56 and some change. Did the BlueBird thing and had $113 to spend right before Christmas. Not sure where I'm at now but will just save until toward the end of February and do it again.

I always get money back, once $11. I get happy when it happens but then think I must be a crappy shopper to get that much back. :rotfl2:
