What should we bring to the parks to make navigation comfortable and easy? It seems like purses will need to be put in a locker for most rides. What do most people carry their tickets and express passes in? Does Universal provide you with a lanyard for tickets, or must they be purchased?

We have some lanyards we use for tickets, express passes etc. They sell them at gift shops - They are about $7 - or just bring one from home... but it is fun to pick one out with a theme you like.

We also carry around a black fanny pack for other items. She will wear the pack around her shoulder like a purse, but then shorten the strap and put around waist to go on a ride so we don't have to use a locker.

Honestly the only thing we have to use the locker for are the soda cups.

Another thing that is great is to wear cargo style shorts (bit too cold now) but they are great for stashing tons of thinks when you are in the park.

We use lanyards to hold :Id , room key, express pass, park ticket ..I carry a small waistpack with a 3 prong clasp..It MUST have a 3 prong clasp or they will not allow it .NO purses, NO wristlets, crossbody ,backpacks or slingpacks allowed on certain rides. Cargo shorts used to be the way to go, but now at Hulk, rip ride rocket and Dragon challenge they make you empty ALL pockets and do not allow waistpacks either..

We stayed onsite so I didn't carry anything except my Lanyard.
Of course I never got any pictures of anything either since I didn't have a camera with me. :(

We went the first day with just lanyards and the purse that converts into a fanny pack (Kipling), so that we could avoid the lockers for everything but Hulk and Rip Ride Rocket (Dragon Challenge they weren't as strict). This would have worked fine, except our kids wanted wands right away, so we wound up having to use lockers for their wands.

The lanyards they sell at the parks are the perfect size for park tickets and express passes, and they seal quite nicely in case you get wet on a ride.

Honestly, when we went two weeks ago, they weren't checking pockets at the Hulk and RRR, so if you had your phone in your pocket, you were fine. They only kicked someone off when he had a GoPro out on the ride. But others have reported that they do sometimes check pockets before getting in line for these rides.

I am following along reading this and if I am understanding what everyone is saying, certain rides like H'Wood RRR, Hulk and a few others, I must take out my phone and wallet and put it in a locker? Is that safe? Excuse my ignorance, I am making my first trip to universal in less then two weeks. Just like to find this out know before getting to the line and told to remove such items.

Correct..At Rip Ride Rocket there is even a sign that says it..There is also one near Hulk..They really seem to be enforcing it these days..and yes the lockers are safe

But the lockers can take time and they never recognize my fingers. There must be a way around this!

Could you use rider swap and hold everyone's stuff while the rest of your party rides? I don't like the idea of leaving phones and money/credit cards in lockers.

The lockers lock with your fingerscan. Seems safe to me.

If/when the lockers are problematic and you need a TM to help open it, they match names to things in there, you have to describe what's in there before opening it. One time when there was nothing identifiable in it (bc I wear my lanyard with cc and ID in it) I had to show the TM a picture of us that was on the camera in the locker. They are very serious about it wen they open it for you.

That's only been needed by us once, when we indulged the child and let him set the fingerscan. Small fingers don't work the best for it!

Probably just personal preference, but I tend to see carrying purses to an amusement park as a baaad idea, the exception maybe being small crossbody purses. They're a pain to carry around and, I would imagine, a bigger theft target. Plus, I prefer to bring bags I don't mind getting messed up; I don't want my purse getting wet on a water ride or anything.

I planned to bring a back pack with a change of clothes for after the water rides. I don't want walk around with wet clothes on.

In July, I wore a rain jacket that had zippered pockets and kept my phone in that. Nobody said anything to me. Are they patting people down now or making you take jackets off?

I'm wondering about the patting down too. I'm not enthused at the thought of that.

We got some waterproof lanyards online from Macy's. They're Samsonite brand, and they were only $5 each. We haven't tried them out yet, but they seem secure. They have a double zip top, and then you roll that down and snap it, too. I was able to fit my Galaxy S5 with room to spare for cards and money. I have a feeling it's going to be kind of heavy around my neck, though.

When we were there in October, they did not pat anyone down, but if you were caught with a phone in hand, they kicked you out of line to go put it in a locker (as my son learned at RRR).

And he was not allowed to get back in line with his friend, he had to start over at the back of the line.

There are signs posted everywhere so a person cannot use the excuse "I didn't see the sign". Poor him...

I guess if you want pictures you can go through the line and take the chicken exit, but my son was not given that option- he had to leave immediately.

And we all just purchased lanyards there, put our tickets facing out one way and ep's the other way. Money/credit cards sandwiched in between with room key.

Phones in pockets or bra.

I did this last summer at WDW when I had no pockets and didn't want to carry a bag for a quick evening trip into Epcot. It was very heavy, and I constantly felt like I was choking. :crazy2:

Yep, we use lanyards and have EP facing out ready to be scanned.......it's ideal for room keys, park tickets and EP..........

We always tucked our lanyards into our tops on these rides........I take it that's still acceptable on RRR and Hulk?

It was earlier in the month. It really has to be allowed. They know you have tickets and such, and you have to be able to carry them somehow. The lanyard isn't likely to fall off and you aren't going to take out your express pass on the ride and drop it for fun. (Like I heard people were doing with coins)

People are doing crazy with their phones, taking video of everything, which interferes with their sales of ride video AND has a high potential for your phone slipping out and smashing someone in the face, so if they see a phone they want it gone.

Yes I couldn't imagine them stopping you going on with lanyards..........once they're tucked in they ain't going nowhere.

Oh and absolutely agree about the phones.....it's an accident waiting to happen when you see people trying to use them to either video themselves or surroundings............so I agree totally with TM wanting them in lockers :thumbsup2
