Walking to Disney Challenge #2

I cleared the 500 mile mark this week. :thumbsup2 That's 505.47 since I started walking to Disney, March 9, 2005. 72.38 this year so far! I've actually covered more ground, but I never recorded any steps in December because I misplaced my pedometer. I average at least 1 miles per day just getting around the work environment, plus I was working at TDS.

I'm on the shelf for a few weeks. I tore the muscle in my lower leg and just getting where I need to go is pretty painful. I'll be off my feet as much as possible for the next 2-3 weeks while I heal.

Keep up the good work everyone! :cheer2:

Wow, I'm so far behind, I think I'm going to lap myself... :moped:

I haven't been good at wearing my pedometer :rolleyes1 Starting after this snow storm, and recovering from my probable double shift at the hospital tomorrow night, I'm getting back to wearing it.

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to keep the thing from coming uncliped? :confused3 I keep droping mine on the floor, and I don't think it is accurate when it is in my pocket...

Thanks

I wasn't always getting accurate readings when I clipped the pedometer to the waistband of my jeans/slacks/shorts/skirts so on a tip from a gal from Blue Cross (Walking Works coordinator) I started clipping it on the waistband of my undergarments. Just be careful when you must remove them!

Thanks! I'll try that...

I hope it is not too late for me to join.
It is 975 miles to WDW for me.
I am tracking only my gym miles/time, but I have tracked it since Feb 1st
So far I am at 20/975
I am looking forward to this- Just not the walk back from WDW! :rotfl2:
I tried to play with the pedometer calcular link posted earlier. If anyone can use it well, please post a "how to"
Thanks!

Slowly moving southward. I am just out of Lima, Ohio on I-75. It looks like such a long way to WDW.

Count me in!
I would love to say that I want to walk the 898 miles before my trip to WDW in June...but that would be almost 8 miles a day and not sure I can get that done. My goal will be to at least get 2-3 miles a day...Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I was going to join in on this thread way back when it first emerged but I think the cold weather here in Southern Ontario and the long distance (1397 miles) to Florida deterred me.
Well, since then, I have stumbled upon a REALLY great deal at a local gym and will now be walking (or something like that) my way to Disney World. I also have 6 people to join with me! Although they are not walking to Disney World I'll at least have some company while I do! And I'll have this great group to report my progress to - how much more motivating can it get?
I think I will also cut down the distance though - just for the sake of making reasonable attainable goals - how about I go for half and say 700 - so that makes about 3 miles a day until the end of September.

Hopefully by the end of September not only will I be able to say "The DIS changed my WDW vacations!" - I'll also be able to say "The DIS changed my LIFE!" :bounce:

Progress so far 4.5/700 :goodvibes

The weather here in Ontario has been pretty cold lately...the wind-chill alone today was -13º F...so not really walking weather...but I found something to let me still get my walk in, in the comfort of my family room...

I picked up a DVD called Walk Away the Pounds by Leslie Sansone. I picked up the one mile walk DVD but she also has a DVD for a 2 mile walk and a 3 mile walk....let me tell you they are fabulous...I was winded and sweating when I finished the 1 mile walk...and I didn't have to bundle up to walk...

I am now even more committed to this Walk to Disney challenge because of these DVD's and I am going to get up a half hour earlier in the morning...put on my sweats and running shoes and head to my family room to do my 1 mile walk...and then I going to do another mile after dinner....I will make it to WDW...hopefully before our November reunion trip.

I thought this challenge could go hand in hand with my training for the Goofy Challenge next January. I would be making my way to POFQ (that's where I'll be staying) - Miles would be 1170.17.

Well it was a pretty good first week. I've brought my progress up to 18.88 miles/700! :cool1:
I have only been counting my workouts - Am I supposed to count everything by wearing a pedometer all day?

If my math is correct, I will need to do at least 1200 miles between now and June. I have never actually tried to look at it that way but I am going to start looking at distance rather than time and calories. I guess if you "go the distance", then the rest of it will take care of itself. I do have a friend that says he burns 140 calories for every mile he goes so that math would equal up to 16,800 calories. If you lose a pound of fat with 600 calories, that would equate to losing 28 pounds. That is more than what my goal is but that is ok. We will see what happens. :thumbsup2

I recently rejoined the Disboards. I was previously a lurker, not much of a poster. But after losing 75lbs with WW and stuck on my last 35, I needed an incentive to get me exercising again. I wear a pedometer daily, as my employer gives me credit towards my medical insurance for steps taking during the day. I am leaving in 6 days for a trip to WDW, so there is not much chance to make the 1063 mile trek till then......BUT, I am going again in August and will take a shot at doing the miles till then. I am still figuring out what the best way to track this is, though. I will have to check over the threads, cuz I am sure somebody has some great ideas.

Something tells me 1206 miles between now and October 15 is a stretch. . . over FIVE miles a day! :earseek:

I'm going to start and see how far I can get between now and then. It's a good way to break in the new elliptical machine we bought over the weekend.

Starting today: 0/1206

Great job WISH Walkers!!
:woohoo:

Forgot to add that I get a little Disney fix while I'm walking by listening to the MANY Disney-related podcasts on my iPod.

My faves:
A Window to the Magic
Inside the Magic
Magical Theme Park

There are others I haven't had a chance to try yet, but between my commute and the 1206 miles to WDW. . . I should be able to give them all a try! :teeth:

To find them, search the Podcast section of iTunes for "disney" or "mouse."

Happy walking!

Just wanted to update that I am 13.81/1013.....WOOHOO finally under 1000.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven't checked in ..... I'm doing okay... esp since I went out and bought a recumbent stationary bike. I have placed it in front of the tv and pedal away while watching the olympics. Between that and walking.. I am at:
drum roll............... 73/210!
I may do it by our 3/11/ cruise yet!! Right now I am around mile marker 130 on the FL turnpike....LOL

Ok I'm committing myself to the challenge...I am new to this and to a regular exercise program  But I have High Cholesterol at age 23 (it's hereditary, not my fault) and need to get heart healthy...So here is what I pledge: I have 980 miles to get me to Animal Kingdom Lodge and I'm not allowed to start planning my next trip to Disney until I'm 200 Miles away...So if I don't commit to this then it's the longer I'll have to wait to go to disney again (and I'm already jonesing for it) Wish me Luck I'll need it.

I made a mistake on my distance estimation from my home to Disney. I had said that the distance was 1200 miles. Well, that is what we put on our car last year for the whole trip. It was 545 miles to go from here to there one way. Well, in the last 2 days, I have went 5 miles so I have a start but I don't think I will make the distance. Right now, I am going to try to reach for Valdosta, Georgia. That is a little over 250 miles away. Plus, I am burning over 200 calories for every mile that I am doing at the gym so with that I think I will reach my goal pretty easily.

Thanks for the support!

hey all! havent posted but, I am still here and in it!
As of today 2-24-06 I am 24 miles closer to disney.
that makes me 93/1161 miles. sounds like I may be in Jersey!

till next time!
renee :thumbsup2
