Walking to Disney Challenge #2

Another beautiful Saturday here in SE PA! I wanted to hit the trail at a local recreation area today, it's like 3 miles, but couldn't find someone to walk along with me. I ended up taking a shorter walk to the park 2 blocks away (total about one mile roundtrip).

Hi everyone
I'm jumping in late... but since I only have 210 miles to walk.. I'm planning on doing it by our cruise in March. :woohoo: It will be good training for next years marathon!!

Welcome Leslie!

It's nice to see all of my cruise buddies here!

I'm 15 miles closer than I was last week so now I'm at 42/1260. Boy at this rate this is going to take me a long time :rotfl: If I don't make it for Oct. there's always Jan. '07 or June '07 I guess. I'm going to start counting all my exercise miles so that should help. I am going to start biking to crosstrain for the half marathons I plan on doing in Aug. and Jan. so that should help the mileage add up quicker so I guess I am not just walking to Disney but exercising to Disney

Awesome Cheryl, good job!

I'm counting my swimming and biking miles in addition to running but I knew that would 'inflate' my mileage so I chose a location farther away. So obviously I'm an advocate for counting whatever method you use to self-propel yourself or equivalents from exercise time to mileage. Go for it!! Remember this is motivation and accountability for ourselves so we get to make the rules.

Welcome Georgie, you'll do great. Gear up for the half marathon. I'll send you a link to the walking club for people getting ready for the marathons!

Thanks for the encouragement Celeste! :wave2: At least we're getting up off the couch and giving it a good try :woohoo:

Hi to all! I can finally say we made it from our house to the New Jersey Turnpike!

Well I'm checking in. I started this original challenge on 3/18/05 (I had to really search to find this) and I'm about 800 miles from finishing. I'd really like to make it to the finish before my year.

Great job Georgie and Joe!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

I'm still walking and walking and walking.... :wave2:

As long as the weather continues to be mild, we had an above average January, I will be able to make a round about the building at work. It's about 1/3 of mile, and when it really warms up I can make it at least twice on my break. I was able to go outside the past two days.

Isn't it GREAT when the weather holds like that... it's just cool enough to keep you moving, but no whipping nippy wind.

You're doing great! We'll get there, I know it. Just a LOT of hard dicipline on our part. Once you make the choice and get up and bundled up, it's really not bad... BUT it's so easy to just sit and watch one more episode of cooking on the Food Network! :lmao: I should tape the shows and reward myself AFTER I've completed my 2 miles!!! :thumbsup2

Hi all, just checking in!
As of today (2-2-06) I am 47.75/1161 miles.................

Which would probably put me in Queens somewhere, I am making my way over the Throgs neck bridge into The Bronx, I just hope it's not at night! lol
:confused3 .
I know I decide to just do TM miles, cause I'll never actually go and get a pedometer, how about my workout at curves though? Any way to figure out how far a 30 minute workout would take me in distance?

:confused3 any thoughts? :confused3

thanks :wave2:

Here's the math I was given to determine miles traveled.
20min = 1 mile
2,000 steps = 1mile

Renee, since Curves is an aerobic workout, I count it like I do my Walk Away the Pound Tapes (I gotta get them out again! ). In most of those, I am doing a "15 minute mile", so, as long as my heart rate is between the 70 and 80 percent, I count my 30 minute workout at Curves as 2 miles. HTH

thank you! :) , my work out ends up being about 35 minutes. I thin kmy curves has alot of machines. Sooooooooo, I am gonna go with 2 miles per workout. If it is less than that, well, I am not counting all the other running around I do during the day so I think 2 miles is fair :thumbsup2
thanks again,

I didn't update last week... I was out of town but my totals are now... 60/1036. :cheer2:

hey all, as of today, I am 69/1161 miles the way there! making my way into Jersey!

post again next week.

Hi to all! :wave2: This was a SLOW week for us, but we're creeping along. :snail: Still on the NJ Turnpike!

Great miles everyone! We're looking at a possible snowstorm this weekend! :cold: MMMM maybe I should start using that eliptical walker I bought years ago to see if it still works! :goodvibes

Forgot to say CONGRATS to all the STEELERS FANS! :cheer2:
