Walking to Disney Challenge #2

I am now at 71/620.7

I have become a bit aimless in my exercise the last several days, and really need to reclaim my passion for it. Wish me luck for tomorrow! :sunny:

I walked 3.1 miles on the treadmill last night, the longest and farthest I've been able to walk at one time since I injured my calf muscle in February. It did a number on my knees though, they were finished walking 30-40 minutes in to the session while I fully intended to keep going for a full hour.

I'm at 201.1 for this year, 634.19 total since starting my walk 3/9/05. I don't think I'll reach Pop Century by the time of our departure - I'd have to walk 6 miles a day. I'm averaging around 3 per day.

Keep up the great work everyone. :bounce:

I was able to tough out a grueling cardio session tonight at the gym. I did 6.5 miles today and that brings my week total so far to 11.5 miles. I am hoping to get in a few more miles before the end of the week by adding in a session with my DW. So far my totals are 56.5 / 545. With 70 days left before we leave, I would have to average 7.5 miles everyday to be able to reach POP. Right now, I am hoping to be able to reach the Florida State Line before we leave.

When did everyone start keeping track of their miles to Disney? I feel so far behind. I officially started keeping track this week, start date 4-4-06. So far, I have walked 11 miles this week. I am a treadmill addict. About 4 weeks ago I changed my treadmill routine from 5 miles a day/ run-walk no incline to an incline walk/run (35 minutes 3.5 mph at 7.5 incline/ 20 minutes 5 mph 0 incline, 5 minutes 0 incline 3mph cooldown) so it has dropped my daily mileage from 5 to 3.5 -4.0 miles. I hope to make it to CSR on time. I may have to start adding a nightly mile walk or 2.

The original challenge started in March 2005, but on 1/1/06 we started this thread. Don't feel like you have to catch up or compete. Walk/Run at your own pace, and even if you don't reach your "destination" by your goal date don't sweat it. Know that you are a healthier person for walking and getting fit.

Haven't checked in lately, but am still walking Current stats are 73/620.7

You can add me in for another 18 miles. I am now at 74.5/545. Really starting to put a lot more intensity into my cardio sessions. I feel great.

Hey Bubba73: May I ask ... what are you doing for cardio? Are you running or doing other exercises? Thanks BTW, I'm from Andalusia

I am doing a lot on the Elliptical machines, some on the ARC Trainers, and some on the treadmill. Every once in a while, I will go and walk around the track at the school. Sometimes, I will do a little on the exercise bike. I am trying to make a consciencous effort to make sure I am always moving. Right now, I am so focused on reaching my fitness goals that I will not stay still. I have to be moving at all times.

Hello, everyone! I just joined the disboards and just found this thread! I think it's great. I actually just started working out/dieting last week! Everyone has to start somewhere, right? I want to lose about 40 pounds by September 22, 2006. I figure thats about 2 pounds a week...It'll be hard, let's see how it goes!

I just looked it up- I have 865.36 miles to walk to Pop Century!!! For the past week I've walked a mile a night. I want to get used to walking so at WDW I'm not so exhausted the whole time! I hope I can get to two miles a night soon. I already feel better though, I stay at home all day so I probably didnt walk a mile in a 3 weeks let alone a night!

28.5 miles done -- ALOT more to go. I walked almost 15 miles this week with a bad cold.

Question -- do you count the miles you walk in an entire day or just when exercising? A friend of mine wears her pedometer all day long and counts every step she takes v. me who just counts what I walk while actually exercising.

Jillyjoey: While there is a difference between the intensity of exercise and the steps you take in normal daily activity the ultimate answer is ... it's your exercise, your trip, your rules. There is an exercise model that encourages 10,000 steps in a day. I count the miles I walk and the time I spend in karate class. Depending on how intense the workout is I estimate between 10-20 minutes of exercise equals a mile. What works for you?

Hey Bubba73: Thanks for that response. I'll have to be more intentional about staying in motion.

I'm in! It's 1549 miles from here to the Wilderness Lodge! 8 miles down... 1541 to go!!!

I'm only counting the walking I do for exercise.

I wear my pedometer all day long, from the time I leave for work until about 8pm.

I have about 50 miles to walk before I cross the state line in to Georgia.

This week I tallied 18.91 miles, slightly less than when I was going to the gym 2-3 times a week and spending 30-60 minutes o the treadmill. My 30 day pass expired and I really can't afford to join until after our vacation in June. At least it's finally daylight for longer and warm enough outside take the dogs for walks

I did another 7 miles at the gym tonight. It was all on the ARC Trainer and the elliptical. No bike! That brings my total to 81.5/545.

I logged another 30 miles since I last posted...now just 870 more to go!!!

I'm up for the challenge...1028 miles to AKL. DH just joined a walking club at work so we're both motivated. Now if I could just make it to AKL by Jan or Feb 2007 when we are planning our next trip. I'll also have to figure out how to post the clippie to my signature.. but I'll worry about that later. See you in WDW!

I'm still walking to WDW (247/442 miles) but I'm also doing karate at the rate of 20 minutes = 1 mile and I've just gotten Billy Blanks Taebo Bookcamp Elite for a more intense workout when I can't do karate. I'll have to see if I can work out consistantly with that DVD.
