We're staying at SoG for the first time, and I've read that you can walk to the Poly or TTC to catch the monorail. When I look on the map, though, it looks like LONG walk Is it really, or is it just the scale on the maps is off? This is my DH's first visit to WDW and I don't want wear him out.

It is a 10-15 minute walk at medium speed, not long at all. There is a golf cart at SOG with a driver which will take you from SOG down to the road if you don't want to walk that far.

For some reason it never feels long on the way to the Poly....only the way back after walking 15 miles in the parks does it seem really long. :upsidedow

Most folks find this true even when walking back to their room at other resorts! ;)

We enjoyed the walk from SOG to the Poly in the morning (keep a sharp eye and you may spot one of the gators in the ponds alongside the walkway). If you're tired later in the day, just take the bus back to SOG instead of returning to the Poly and walking. Worked for us!

Great! Thank you everyone! :thumbsup2 I'm so looking forward to it. (Only three weeks to go!)

You are going to LOVE staying at Shades....its our home away from home!!!

Have a WONDERFUL time!! :thumbsup2

by the way if you get a chance to walk over to the Poly not only for the monorail but one day walk over and rent one of the sea racers...used to be called Mouseboats...lots of fun on a down day......or enjoy one of their restaurants or just take a tour of the resort!

We always looked for a gator on our many walks to and from the Poly but never did spot one. We did come across a rather large yellow snake slithering across the path :scared1:, however, so keep an eye out for those, too!

SoG is a beautiful resort and in a fantastic location being near the Poly and monorail line. You will enjoy it.

We saw the gator sunning itself on the bank of the pond (north side of the walkway- on the left as you walk toward the Poly) early one morning. Couldn't have been more than 10 feet from us when we first spotted it. All was fine until DW realized what me and the grandkids were looking at. She screamed and ran into the roadway. That seemd to startle the gator who splashed back into the pond and submerged.

You'll love SoG! The walk isn't too bad. Transportation from SoG to the parks is pretty good, though.

While at SoG, be sure to check out their ice cream parlor. Inexpensive, and DELICOUS - Home made ice cream!!!
