Walking from BLT?

Although I believe you will have to cross an actual (service) road, so the walk may not be desireable for those with children. (I think there was one dis poster that had a story about their child getting hit by traffic going to CR, although they mentioned Disney handled it well after the fact)

The walk is not bad at all.

You do cross a road but most WDW Staff is very cautious and careful. You of course must be careful, there are some people not paying as much attention as they should but not the norm.

There is a nice sidewalk that parallels the MK bus stops and it is fairly well shaded once you cross the road. The first park of the walk going toward MK is in the sun and through the Contemporary / BLT Parking Lots (not really pretty). Once you cross that road though you get the Disney Feel.

You could always just cross over to the Contemporary and take the monorail if concerned.

there is a traffic light - so make sure it has the person walking before you cross the street.

Personally, I plan to take the monorail when I (hopefully, eventually) stay at BLT. As long as the planned BLT walkers plan on being careful, I say more power to them!!
I did not care for the walk from SSR to DTD (east side) because I had to walk on the same bridge so close to real traffic (and thought this is very un-Disney like) My dislike was not really a distance or safety issue. To me real traffic takes me out of my complete escape into the fantasy Disney world and subjects me to too much of the real world, and that is not vacation to me.

yea but the monrail ride to the MK from CR (BLT) is long. it has to go to TTC, Polyn and GF -because it gets to the MK - it can take 20 minutes (because of the wait times)

walking you can be at the MK in less than 10 minutes.

So are you guys figuring 10 minutes from the lobby of BLT to MK entrance? That is quick! That would be great and easy. I was trying to get a gauge by looking at some of the maps and aerial photos, but it was hard to tell how far away it was. So, is that about how long it will take to catch a resort bus? It has always been a pain to resort hop when taking Disney buses. I was wondering what the best way to get to AK or BC from BLT. Would walking to MK bus loop and catching a resort bus be the quickest and easiest? It just sounds too easy. In the past we sometimes would catch a taxi b/c resort to resort could take 1.5 to 2 hrs bus hopping.

I measured roughly using google earth that it would be about 0.5mile from the BLT Lobby to the turnstiles at MK (following the footpath).

I would say it is less than 10 mins from the contemporary to the MK bus stops so that would deffinatly be the quickest route for resort hopping (provided MK is open still when you want to return!)

we love the walk

I agree, and taking a bus on a highway to a park is as real world as it can get. We like to stay at an EPCOT resort to eliminate as many bus rides as we can-BLT will be another great choice for us (either monorail or walk). Plus having control of our time is very important to us.
