Walking down the aisle without your dad -even though he'll be at the wedding????

I am walking half way down the aisle by myself and having DF meet me at the half way point and we'll walk the rest of the way together!

Sometimes it's logistics. The historical home we rented, doesn't have a place for me to do that. The room we're having the ceremony is, is set up with just 1 entrance, and there is no way to walk in with mine. :sad2:

That is what we did ! I thought it was very romantic. Our parents weren't able to attend, and like some of you, I am very independent and didn't feel the need to be "given away", so for us it was more like each of us making the individual journey half way, joining together to walk the rest of the way to our lives together.

Now, I will say my DD (15) is already worried about the dad or step-dad issue and we already talked about mom walking her for the same reasons many have mentioned..not to step on the father's toes, and mom has been the one person there for her every day of her life.

I was 32 when I got married and wasn't particularly close to my father either, so I walked myself down the isle. It was beautiful and I wouldn't have done it any other way. It's your wedding, you need to do what you want and what will make you the happiest. Your parents will understand regardless of what you do.

I'm going to be walking myself down the aisle as well. Unless something drastic happens, I doubt my father will be there to begin with and I'm really not close to him. I thought about my mother, but we both agreed this way felt more natural. On an interesting side note; in Hindu weddings the brides family is already seated up front on one side of the "tent", so another of her close male relatives walks her up. My friend has always been extremely close to her father, but also her uncle, so he got to escort her up. It was wonderful to actually see the families face as she walked down the aisle.
