Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Maria - congrats on signing up for the half next year! And, more importantly, congrats on a successful half this year! This goes for Eva, Kim, Denise, Stacey and any other first timers I inadvertently miss. You did it!!! Although I just completed my first marathon, my first event - the WDW half in '07, is still the most magical for me. It was at that time that I started feeling comfortable enough to call myself an athlete. The completion of the half just kind of sealed the deal for me.

Just as importantly, a big congrats to all who participated in events this year - the 5K, half, the full, the Goofy or the Dopey!

Thanks for the congrats! I didn't even have any post half marathon sadness like some say, I just kept saying "I did it!". Of course, the mega stress I've been under since I got home has helped. Or NOT!

I'm dying to sign up for next year but haven't wanted to ask DH yet! I'll wait a bit! But he did say that he might do a 5K with me, surprise!

I'm getting slowly back into training, it's all TM for me now, with the temps being so cold & snow everywhere here! I've been doing easy miles for now, getting my body readjusted after a week off.

I like the idea on the miles thread about using time instead of miles. I love to see the miles rack up, but it does take me longer to do the miles!

Good morning everyone, we are headed out the door for mega errands so I'll catch up later.

Have a super day y'all.

Hi everyone, just checking in. The temp is up to 5 above, and wind is only at about 5mph, so I think I will brave the outside with the dogs before the wind picks up! This has been very inspirational, makes me really want to get out and walk! It has been very cold and windy the past few days, so walking outside has been kept to a minimum. Hopefully, I will make it for more than a 1.25 mile walk today.

Still too dark at night for an outdoor walk so I started up again on the ellip. Did 40 min and I felt pretty good. It's suppose to warm up to the 20's this weekend so Mark suggested we go outside for a walk on Saturday. Glad to see he's not totally giving up on the exercise program.

Miranda went out for a 3 mil jog this morning, :worship: better her than me.

Others in our group are still recovering with Twinkies! KIDS!

Guys please take a look at the miles team roster. If any of you guys who are not listed want on give me a shout. I mixed us up so because I wanted a mix of runners, run/walkers and walkers on each team.

We are finally done with errands associated with the car purchase. I put the Jeep in for service, (the one dear daughter is getting) and of course it has about a $1000 worth of repairs needed. We got service and front brakes today, next week it gets new transmission lines and next month it gets a new water pump and rear brakes. Oh goody.

Sorry I haven't been much help with staying on top of the exercise but this has been taking the majority of my time. Tomorrow I will get my self to the gym for a real workout.

Ooooo, Jeanne! I'm doing the KKreme Challenge too -- or at least I'm signed up. I am still hobbling around on blistered feet. I did it last year and had a lot of fun. I brought home my box of doughnuts for the kids (though, somehow, two were missing from my dozen when I got home....)

Maybe I'll see you there!

Hi ya Wendy. We have plenty of room in the miles game if ya wanna play.

Where are all our walking buds today? I haven't seen Kim for a while did she and Mike get home ok?

Maria we need a WISH name for your Hubby.

Jeanne you are a team captain for the miles game, you are tasked with keeping that naughty and mischevious Nancy in check.

Denise I'm glad you are coming back next year, Erica and I will find you this time.

Thanks for the good thoughts all.

Finally made it home at 9:30 am. Flight from MCO to DIA was delayed 30 min due to deicing as it left DIA. Landed in DIA and plane 45 min late leaving gate. Another 15 min delay for deicing. Landed in Reno over 1 1/2 hrs late. United decided not to unload our planes luggage to almost 2 hrs after we landed. A total of 3 1/2 hrs delay on full flights. Took shuttle to hotel and relaxed and went to bed at midnight. Got up early and had almost 2 hrs of driving through snow to get home. Home for 1 1/2 hrs and off to clients the rest of the day.

I will get rest on Thurs except have to be at hospital at 6:30 for 7:30 surgery.

Lots of snow and ice with more coming. Look forward to moving to warmer climate in a couple of months.

Glad you and Linda made it home safety. All the best thoughts for the surgery. May it be painless and uneventful.

I got you a slot on the miles game on Jeanne's team. She is former Marine Drill Sgt. "She will make you strong."

I saw the tight ship she ran at mini golf & ToT 13K and WDW Marathon.

I guess I will do the bike tomorrow to get one good workout to help get my rehab started before surgery. Can't slack on Feb 1 no matter what the excuse!

Hi ya Wendy. We have plenty of room in the miles game if ya wanna play.

Dave, I have a confession... I am a non-logger! Seriously, for several years I've paid to join our local running clubs 1000 mile club and I never manage to log more than 100 miles before I stop -- I DO the miles, but the drugery of tracking and logging them just drives me nuts! The closest to success I had was buying one of those Nike Plus thingees and letting it log the miles for me -- all I did was plug it into the computer periodically. When the battery failed, I never replaced it though.

I have the same problem with a food diary. I hate keeping track.

I don't think it's laziness exactly -- maybe a math phobia! It's good to be chatting with you guys again, though!

Well we'll see about that.... $$ may be the problem but I'm looking into DVC for our room when the 11 month window comes up. It's a good reason to focus on training and with Weight Watchers on my back I need exercise to help shed the pounds.

I know Miranda wants to do it again but like me she'd have to jog alone as Mark said not again for him.

I love being part of the group here it keeps me focused on training.

Denise do you and Miranda want to join a team for the miles game? It will go from Feb 1st to Dec 31st. You log your miles and hours exercised and add to the running total of your team. It's to give us a little extra motivation.

I understand the budget problem. We had to buy another car when we came back from Disney, it was unexpected. Daughter's 2001 Grand Prix decided it was time to fall apart.

I didn't get to hear yet, what did you guys decide about where to move?

Robert--- Glad you and Linda made it home. Good luck with your surgery on Friday and a speedy recovery.

Dave-- Gosh you have give Jeanne a position of power over me, I'm in trouble. Beth (creativebeth) and I are on opposing team so we can have a friendly competition, so don't tell her I am no longer going to share my workout schedule with her. :rotfl2: Been there done that about cars, so glad my sons are finished with college and have full time jobs and their cars are their problems now.

Denise--- I hope you can come back so I can meet you next year.

Oh Jeanne---You need to step back and let people be accountable for themselves and do what you want and let the others do there own thing. If John wants to do the full, you can still support him and do your training for the half at the same time. He supported you but he wasn't out there walking 20 miles with you. Of course it is questionable if I always follow this advice for myself. I am actually looking forward to being a scream team member for the full and just doing the half without the pressure of worrying about being sweep.

So far I have done well this week with the WW diet and training. Monday did 3 miles TM and pilates class, and yesterday did 65 minutes on elipical for 5.5 miles.

Wendy: did you sign up for the challenge or the casual run? I am so glad you're doing it! I have to remember to bring a little backpack so I can take all the donuts home. I guess John gets a dozen also....like we really need all those! (Actually you have kids at home, so I'll just give them to you!) Just remember.....long pants, long sleeves....you don't want to slip in the you-know-what.

Hello, Dave: Uh, did I vounteer to be a team captain. Did I? Did I? (in my Lucy van Pelt voice). I didn't, but I will....it's probably the only way I can hold myself accountable. Do I really get to boss people around? And you put Nancy on my team? That'a a great way to ruin a friendship. Whatever were you thinking?

Robert: glad you and Linda made it home safe and sound. Good luck on your surgery......since I understand you are on my team, you have exactly 2 days to recuperate. (Blame Dave!)

Scott: I can't imagine training in those temps. Since moving to NC, I am a total cold weather wimp! I am in awe of your dedication.

Wow, Nancy, that is quite a workout! I'm still in recovery mode. Of course I feel fine, but want to make sure my body gets adequate time to heal....kinda like Denise's kids and the twinkies! :thumbsup2 Besides, yesterday was John's BD, so we had cake and his favorite meal, which is definitely not diet food.

Casual! No way I could eat a dozen doughnuts at one time -- running or not -- though one of my friends did it! He said all I had to do was smash those three rows of 4 hot collapsible doughnuts into three little dough-balls and choke them down. No thanks!!!

I registered as a casual runner last year as well I think. I have a couple of photos from last year.

It was fun. The backpack is a good idea. I carried the box in my hands the whole way, which made my race photos pretty funny looking! :rotfl:

OMG.....WAS THERE ANYBODY OVER 25?????

We will surely stick out like a sore thumb!

I didn't get to hear yet, what did you guys decide about where to move?

We will be moving to Folsom(CA). It is a suburb of Sacramento. Depending on surgery, we will be gone between 3/1-4/1. We have lots of things to start planning this weekend. Linda get her birthday off from work(Fri) and gets to take care of me:rolleyes1

Checklist:

1) Find apartment
2) Find jobs
3) rehab
4)......

Jeanne, dear pretty princess, I needed captains who were sweet and kind and supportive in a butt kicking sorta way.

I gave you Robert and Linda so you are a person ahead of the other teams so if that wimp Robert needs more than 2 days recovery you are covered.:rolleyes1

I finally got a real workout in today. Three miles on the tready with varied speeds. Then some pool sprints and light upper boby work. I have lost 3 lbs since Disney.:thumbsup2

Our miles game is a three fold competition:

An added motivational tool.

A chance to get to know some of the new WISH members.

To have fun.

We will still have our regular threads like this one and the weekly.
