Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

I am doing very well. Very little pain and can work on putting some light weight on leg. I should ditch crutches and be moving around well by Weds follow up appt.

I should be able to do bike by Feb 1 to add some miles to the team!

Robert--- Glad you are doing well after your surgery. Does this mean you can take Linda our for her Birthday?

Happy Birthday Linda

Dave-- I'm doing the half so I can actually enjoy the race and take pictures since I know I can finish it in the required time. Plus I can be a Scream Team member on Sunday and give back to everyone that supported me this year.

Maria--- My WW Peruvian Turkey last night was not as good as I thought it would be. I marinated it for 24 hrs and it smelled yummy, but just lacked much taste. It was the only disappointment for the week. Now will have to start looking for next week's receipes. Good luck with your weigh in.

All these threads are moving so fast it is hard to keep up with them.

Nancy

Kim, welcome back, we missed you. There is a slot for you on the miles game that starts on Feb 1st if you want to play and post your miles and the hours you exercise. All your buds are playing.

Erica and I are doing the full next year also and then more than likely we will do the goofy again in 2010. Of course we will have to enjoy a fresh beer or three with our Northern friends.

Nancy I understand that is kinda how we feel about not doing the goofy next year.

Jeanne, Maria Hi pretty princesses.:flower3:

Happy Panda:hippie:

Thanks Robert and Dave,

One of the best parts of the weekend was hanging out with you guys Thursday night we had a great time.

I think what we will do this time is go in earlier in the week to hit the parks, volunteer for the 1/2 then do the full and probably leave on a late flight out on Sunday but that is a long way off for us to make some final decisions. I just thought it was funny MIke starting this dicussion, It is always me that wants to go back:confused3

Sorry Dave, I haven't read any posts lately what is this game.

Kim

Good morning, EVERYONE!

You are all so busy making plans, and plotting and thinking!! What fun!

I am thinking of giving the marathon a go, next year. I guess I will wait to make official plans until my DH has been to the neurological surgeon and other things. I know I have quite a bit of time before I have to make the commitment, so....

Went to my Doctor with my hip, I have come to the point where I only need to see him when it becomes bothersome. I ended up with 2 shots to reduce the inflammation from my PF. He was initially concerned that it was diabetes, but got over that notion pretty quick. I eat right and my fasting glucose in the mornings is about 70. He asked about my diet and was impressed that I eat mostly "clean"ish. :rotfl: My DH is pre-diabetic, I eat better than he does. But I decided a while back, I would rather have a diabetic diet and avoid diabetes, instead of the other way around! Anyway, the doctor told me to continue walking! He said that in his experience, rest wasn't all that beneficial. :jumping1:

Y'all keep up the good work! The temperature is supposed to be in the 60's today. I think I will get outside and see if I can walk...in the outdoors...at all!

Kim look at the post, Updated Team Rosters, that will fill you in on the miles game.

I'm glad you guys are coming early for the marathon weekend, we can do some parks together. We had a super time doing the parks this last trip with Scott and Lynn and Robert and Linda.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Connie--- I must have missed that you were having problems with your hip. Glad that both you and DH are doing better.

Hi Kim--We missed you.

I feel good today. Went to WW and have lost 4 pounds and I know it was not water weight this time. Then headed to the gym for 3 miles on elipical and pump class. To bad the team challenge doesn't start until next week.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

I posted this in the weekly thread, but then I thought maybe it is a walking-specific question, so here's what I'm wondering:

Quick question if anyone is around....

If I started my workout last Saturday, and my walking days are Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, should I make Saturday my mileage building day, or Sunday since Monday is not walking?

Does that make sense? I've seen training plans that use both and as a new walker (for distance, not for intrahouse transportation, obviously), I don't want to overdo it and hurt myself....

Also, do I do my strength/stretch (yoga, pilates, etc) BEFORE I walk or after?

Thank you in advance if anyone can help....

Nancy Thanks for your concern. I started getting help for my hip right after ToT. It was locked down. I had no rotation ability. But it's way better. And it was most likely the cause of the PF. I keep hoping that my time is amazing, now!! :)

Ms Mightyduck I would rest after long mileage days. Your body strengthens best with rest. As for stretching, I do it after walking. I do Pilates on walking days. It's nice to do a mat workout my body is warm and ready for stretches and it makes a really good cool down.

It depends on a lot of things. Your age, present condition things like that.

I usually do my long day then either have an off or easy day the next. I will often do walking every other day and pool conditioning on the other days.

Walking/running is like lifting weights if you go long or fast you need a healing day after to build. You tear down on the work days but rebuild stronger on the easy/rest days.

I would stretch after the walk workout when you are nice and warmed up.

Thanks! Then I'll keep today a shorter day....

NICE!, Miranda and I weigh in tomorrow. I hope I'm in the minus column. I've been tempted to weight myself here at home but resisted - one more day! I do see a change in my clothes in just a week so that's a plus.

Slept in till 8 so we were lazy today. No walking, but may do some ellip training later to tomorrow am.

Off to the kitchen/laundry room today....does that count as an activity??

Thanks, Walking Panda. :) I'm 36 but have discovered I have no cardio health here at all--even after a slow warm up, I'm a pretty slow walker. A cross-country/track coach I've known for 20 years (and who still laughs at me giving up on a walk 1.6 miles in age 16!) said I should work on distance now and push the time issue once my body gets the message that it needs to do this.... So I'll make today easy and push the mileage tomorrow so that I can do pilates today, too.

Hey everyone!

I went to the gym last night and I walked 3 miles on the treadmill. This is the first time I've been able to do this since the full a couple of weeks ago - due to the blister I acquired on the bottom of my left foot. The blister is better but still causing a little soreness on the bottom of my foot. Today is XT. I'll go work out with some weights. I'm guessing that this type of XT helped me not be so sore after the full. Not sure, though.

Nancy - congrats on the 4lb weight loss! Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

Kim - wecome back. Good luck in training for the full. It's nice that you can have someone to train with. I'm thinking of doing the Goofy in 2010 as well.

Steffwalks and catwalks - I'm in for the OKC memorial half. My DH, Steve, is going to be part of a relay team. I'm still working on getting a hotel room. Any suggestions? I'd like to stay close to the start/finish but I sure don't want to pay ~$200/night. :scared:

Robert - hope you are doing well today. Also, hope Linda had a good birthday yesterday! :dance3:

If you go to Hotels.com the EconoLodge and the Quality Inn in Bricktown have availabilities. They are both under $100. When looking for a room, look for ones near the OKC Memorial, Bricktown or Ford Center. Those will be the closest. There will be lots of event parking and there SHOULD be street cars running to help everyone get to the start. I think the EconoLodge and Quality Inn are just over 1 mile from the start. There are lots of hotels and motels. The other good locations are the airport and Northwest Expressway, Both are an easy drive, and you might be able to get a hotel shuttle take you.
