Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

I took her to a lighthouse sitting on a high cliff. It was very sureal with the big light going in the night, the sky filled with stars, the storm waves crashing on the rocks below. We went to the edge of the cliff and I throwed my old wedding ring off the chiff to the waves far below. Leaving my old life behind and going forward to my new one with her.

That would have been my first choice but she would have just washed up on the shore and and made the scavenger fish sick.pirate:

Of course pretty princesses should get presents.:flower3:

Off to work Panda:sad1:

Oh Dave that is so sweet, what a romantic.

I live about 30K to the closest mall but only about 3 to the liquor store:thumbsup2 , I do have priorities:woohoo: We still don't sell beer or liquor in the local stores.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I am swamped, curling and Christmas party tonight, 50th birthday party tomorrow night and a Christmas show on Sunday night and we have one dozy of a snow storm apparently coming tomorrow night to Sunday so we will see.

Everyone stay safe and healthy and enjoy your long walks!!!!!

Kim

SNOWING HERE AGAIN!!! I can't belive it. Mike and I have decided that we won't be doing another 1/2 or marathon during the winter, just way to hard to train with our weather, we aren't getting in any milage and I just can be on the TM for more then 30 mins I get to bored. I was hoping to do the 1/2 in 2 hours and 45 min, now I am just hoping I can finish.

Kim--me neither. My marathon season will be May-Nov. Weather is too variable this time of year to be trying to build mileage.

Okay veterans, I have a problem. Last weekend was my first 11 miler in preps for the half. I did 10.3 and just couldn't do any more. And, I managed to strain something in my foot (possible Morton's Neuroma as I've had that in the past). This weekend was to be an 8 miler, then another 11 next week before the taper. If my foot isn't 100%, I don't want to do the 8 this week. I might do a shorter distance, or just lay off the whole thing. At this point, how much will I lose not doing that long walk? I know walking is cumulative, but these are the dwindling weeks and I don't want to mess up.

Heather: Rest is more important. 13 miles is only a few more than you have done. If you don't rest, you might not be able to start.

Old saying" Better to be undertrainied and healthy than overtrained and injuried". That's what I am doing. Killing me not to log miles but if I do, I won't finish the race. The last few miles are all adreleine so relax and get better:)

I concur with Robert's advice. Most of us train more than we need to and rest less than we need to anyway. When you stop enjoying the miles it's a good indication that you might need a day off or two also.

I'm personally doing a lot more crosstraining, water fun, than I would normally since I just came off a foot injury and don't want any more Boo Boos.

I did a quarter mile of sprints this morning in the 5' deep lane in the pool. Then did some upper body work.

We are going long again on Monday and Tuesday so I hope the darn rain stops. It's rained non stop since I came back from Gatlinburg. I wanna go to Disney World.

One week from taper maddness. I however will be normal.

Water fun Pandapirate:

Does cleaning the computer room, moving furniture and hanging quilts count as training? I think not so I'd best get my butt up to the TM today since I've only done a bit this week. My taper madness has started and a bit too early. The Holiday prep week will be madness and I have to work out at the same time.

I wanted to do 8 this week, and 10 next but I'll be lucky if I do 8 next week. I hope you are right and the adrenaline kicks in and hope it's EARLY for me!

Good morning walker buddies.:flower3:

My walking today will be at the mall while I'm waiting for my princess to get off work. Then off course breakfast at Bob Evans.

I'm looking out the window at our first snow flurries of the year. We are not supposed to get any on the ground though. It have turned winter with 32 degrees and a 20 mph wind making the chill factor 18 degrees. YUCK!

I have been thinking about trying to write a book about walking, more when I retire than now. I've decided to start putting thoughts down so if I ever do I'll have a base to work from. I'm doing this on Robert's site DisneyRunning.com I think this might be the first time anyone ever attempted to workm on a book on line with comments form readers as it goes along. This project will be an ongoing adventure for quite a while.

Here is a link if anyone wants to check on my progress.

Erica and I are planning one more series of long walks this week but this weather may shorten the distances. I freeze solid at 40 degrees so I'll be a hurting puppy after a few miles.

Hope everyone is feeling good today.

Hey all! I'm trying to catch up on all that I've been missing. ;)

Panda Dave and Erica - Congratulations!!!! May you have many more years of happiness together. :goodvibes

Jeanne - Sorry about your stonker for the 18-miler. I'm wondering if a little salt packet might help you. John Bingham was a guest speaker at last year's WDW expo and he suggested taking a salt packet (like you find at McDonalds) at the beginning of the race and then at the half way mark for those doing the full. Of course, he suggested this due to the expected heat but maybe one would help. :confused3

What do you experts out there think about this?

I didn't get to do mine last week due to back pain. I did manage 10 miles by hanging on a treadmill and I did 8 today. Other than that, my longest was 16 in mid-November. I'm getting a wee bit nervous. I'm supposed to do 20 this next weekend. Hopefully, I can do it.

Denise - I know the snow puts a damper on your training but that pic with the snow is so beautiful. Oh, and I LOVE that Munster's pic. Thanks for sharing.

Kim - Stay safe! We rarely get snow in these neck of the woods. Mainly, ice if anything.

Robert - sending more :wizard: for your shins. Are they getting any better by chance?

Heather - sending :wizard: your way as well. I agree with the others - rest up for now. No need hurting it more.

Connie - sending :wizard: for your DH's back. I've missed the posts - is it his upper or lower back? Hopefully, the PT will help him. :wizard:

As for me, I did 8 miles on the TM today. I did it without having to hang on to the sides like I had to last weekend. That means my back is much better. Yay! However, it is a little sore tonight but nothing I can't handle. Up next, 20 miles next weekend. The plan is to go to Dallas and do this with my training buddy, Cindy. She hurt her knee about a month ago so she might not be up to it. :( We'll see.

Hope everyone has a safe and injury-free week. :wizard:

Good MOnday Morning everyone!!!!

OMG, what a weekend. We had a party for our curling club Friday night, 50th birthday for a good friend on Sat and then the storm hit Sunday!!! We have so much snow. I can't wait to get to Florida!!!!

PD request coming. about 2PM yesterday, I get a call from my SIL, my BIL has been in a bad snowmobile accident....so we rush off to the local hospital which is abuot 30 mins away on a good day, fortunately DS just got new snowtires so we made it down there no problem. Well without getting to graphic, he has lost all the skin from the knee down on one leg....really bad. he has gone into surgury and all looks good, he won't lose the leg, but will require more skin graphs and about a month off work so please send lots of PD his way!!!!

Whew.....back to work today.....5 more days of work then I am done for the year.....YAAAAAAAA

hope you all had a great weekend.

Kim

Oh Kim...:wizard: and PD to your BIL. That had to be painful. All those nerve endings!!! And :grouphug: to your family. How traumatic for you. And here I spent yesterday telling my kids not to rough house, because I did not want to drive to the local hospital.....

Kim my best PD thoughts for your family, that he recovers and you all get this behind you.

We have a chilly morning here to, for us anyway. It's 29 degrees and Erica won't budge. We had good walk miles last week in Gatlinburg so I guess I can let her hybernate today.

We may do some wondering around later. She has to go to the dentist to get a bridge replaced this afternoon so we may just have a rest day.

Have an awesome day everyone.

Resting Panda:hippie:

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I'm on the injured/out list. Turns out to be a stress fracture, doc said no training, no half, for 6 weeks. ARGH!

Oh Sassy, that is awefull. Are you still coming to cheer the rest of the WISH team and party with us crazies? I hope you come back stronger than ever.

I had to miss the 2006 half because of a torn achillies. 5 months after that I stopped running and became a full time walker.

Resting Panda:hippie:

Yep, I'm still planning to come down and cheer. Hubby thinks I should at least start the walk, do a mile or two and then cut out to the med tent. We'll see how it feels by then. Right now it hurts like crazy so no way. So disappointed.:sad1:

This is the last official week before taper maddness begins. I want this right out front: I am not be blamed for anything I do.

For the next 26 days you may talk like a pirate or an Aussie. You no longer need to adhere to the strict dress code while on the key board.

Born to be wild Pandapirate:

I think I've already started the taper stuff but not the maddness. I tried to do 4 miles today but my TM shut off after about 3 miles. The Gods are against me. I have next week off so I plan on going out for 6-8 miles. I;ve never done more than 6.1 and I want to know I won't collapse after 8 miles.

My son got laid off of work for the season tonight so he'll join me in the training process. He'll wish he was still employed when I'm done with him. :rolleyes1

Well keep on training and I"ll try despite the snow covered roads.
