Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Pixie dust for your hubby Connie.

I managed 2 easy miles at the mall this morning, foot still hurts as much as it did on Tues, so tomorrow it's back to the pool. I'm gonna train like an animal in the pool till this foot gets better. I will be unhurt even if under trained at the Goofy.

Sore Panda:hippie:

Sorry to hear foot still bothering you.

Went out and did 3.05 miles very very slowly yesterday. Shin still sore and stiff. Both shins taped and Ace bandaged to support. Long way to go to do 13 little alone 26 the next day:sad2: I will start both races as Dave mentioned Healthy and under trained.

Off to dentist this aam as chipped 2 teeth yesterday, PT this afternoon. Dr appt on Mon for shins and Weds for back. PT M-W-F. Lots of money going out the window.

Connie: Hope things go well with your hubbies PT.

Guys a fellow from Mizuno has responded to the thread 'Walkers opinions please'. We have an ear, please talk to him, tell him what problems you have with shoes, you guy's opinions and desires need to be heard.

This is our shot to prove we exist and we are here to stay.

Excited Panda:hippie:

Connie: sending pixie dust for your hubby's speedy recovery.

Robert, Dave: get better soon......we need your valuable support and presence on race day to get through this.

Add me to the list of slightly injured. The toenail that I lost several months ago has grown back in, but it's ingrown and KILLS! I finally realized the reason I was having knee pain was because I changed my gait to alleve pressure on my toe. Not good....now I'm hurting all over. I got one of those Dr. Scholl's products and hope it helps. If not, I'm wearing my Ecco sandals during the half-marathon on Sunday. I've never used them for long distances but it's gotta be better than the pain I have now. I really feel like my body is starting to break down. After Sunday, I have only 2 more long walks: 18 and 20 miles. I'm not gonna make it to 22 but that's OK.....it was just a cushion.
I am really looking forward to taper and letting my body heal a bit. I so want this to be over.

Question about the pacing groups......I notice most of us are in the slowest group. What is your strategy? Do you go out a little faster in the beginning to avoid the sweepers or try to maintain a steady pace throughout? I can do a half-marathon without a potty stop, but wonder about going 26.2 miles without a potty break. You guys can just whip it out, but for ladies it takes alot longer, especially when you are sweaty and everything is stuck to you. I'm thinking I may lose about 3 minutes in the process! Can we be frank......at this point, if it's a question of getting a medal or not getting a medal, I'm prepared to pee in my pants and hope nobody notices :scared1: but I really hope it doesn't come down to that. (It's OK to say this because I'm walking with Nancy and she's away from the boards right now):thumbsup2
I can't believe I just wrote that, but it's the truth. I've worked too hard to get to this point to lose everything over a bathroom break. And besides, I'm over 50....nothing embarrasses me anymore! :rotfl:

Jeannie there are some handy dandy products out there that make whipping it out an option for women too. Check your local hiking/camping store!

Connie: I can't even begin to imagine how something like that would work:confused3 . PM me if the details are too graphic for a public forum :rotfl:

Boy you are away from the boards for a bit and people are whipping stuff out:scared1: :scared1:

Jean: Sorry to hear about your toe problems, I still have 3 black toes from my 1/2 in Sept and I just hope I don't lose the nails.

As for my plan of action since I am in group C I am going to get as close to the front of that group as possible and try and get a quick start so that I have some cushion behind me incase I slow down on one of the checkpoints. I think there are only certain places where they will sweep you..... I THINK.....I did my first 1/2 without a potty break but during ToT I had to stop once:confused3

Mine is called a Freshette; model 4-2-P. I kid you not!! :lmao: It's a rather simple solution utilizing a small plastic hose and flattened funnel. The best part, no nakedness involved. I have reached that magical age when you are afraid someone will see you.....and if they do they will go,"eeeeeeeeuuuuuuuu!" :lmao:

OMG, way too funny! :lmao: Notice how quiet the "boys" are today....I think we have finally managed to freak them out! :rotfl2:

I ran with women in Ultras so nothing surprises me. They would just stand up and pee right off to the side of the trail. You can see just about anything out there. The fast guys would just pee on the run and on the trail. Just look out for the wet line in the dirt:rotfl2:

I swear you princesses, just can't take y'all anywhere. He I am trying to get you some good information on shoes from the factory reps and get some design changes and you ladies are "whipping it out". I missed the flashing at the ToT, now I miss this.

Sorry, Dave....you snooze, you lose!

Robert, I don't have any idea what an Ultra is and quite frankly at this point I don't think I want to know. Connie's little contraption was too much for me!
I started this conversation....I can officially end it. Case closed!

We are leaving in a little bit for the Run for Victory Junction which takes place tomorrow. Tonight we are having dinner with Wendy and Pat and possibly a few others. Tomorrow we get to meet Renee and Jackie and see Beth again. I'm going to bring my disposable camera and try to get a group photo....maybe even with "the penguin".

Ha,ha...John just came and peered over my shoulder. He informed me that an "Ultra" is an EVENT.....not a GARMENT, as I was trying to imagine! :lmao: Sometimes I so act my haircolor....:rotfl2:

I'm happy to report that my toe pain is much better. That little over the counter remedy sure did work.

It's comforting to know that John is exerting some, much needed, adult supervision over your wild unruley butt. :rolleyes1

When you see Wendy tell her to get her self over to the "Walkers Opinion Please" thread and add her comments while we have the Mizuno rep listening.

Rest day for me today. Tomorrow I will try some easy walking again.

Have an awesome weekend Walker Friends.

Resting Panda:cloud9:

I still have no packet and race number. I'm getting a complex here, I'm the only one without a number. They will have to write it on my forehead with a sharpe.

I'm going to try a few easy miles at the mall while I'm waiting for my princess to get off work so we can do breakfast. If my foot does ok with the easy walking today I'll try to get in about 6 tomorrow.

Where are all the pretty princesses? It was fun looking at the movie Robert put together with pics from the ToT. We sure had a good time there. It brought back a lot of memories.

Have a good sunday y'all.

Going Goofy Panda:hippie:

I'm back!!!

We flew into NH this morning at 1am to snow and 23 degrees. What a let down. WDW was Hot and beautiful. We learned to do our training EARLY in the am as I can't stand the heat. We were at the BWV so we did that loop and also went to MGM and back as our warm up.

We did a LOT of walking during the day too. I found that my "newer" sneakers are horrible for me. I thought it was from training but ordinary walking with them or even running/jogging is bad and my shins KILL me. I have a pair of Mary Jane earth shoes that I bought at Wal-Mart because I thought they were cute. Well I wore them for 2 days and my legs didn't hurt at all. In fact it kind of cured my pains one night. I don't know what I'm going to do. I have a LOT of sneakers to pick from and will try each one on the TM since the snowstorm is preventing me from going outside!

The only up side to being back is that we have 5 weeks till Marathon. I saw the paperwork had come from Disney when I looked through the mail. I haven't even opened that yet.

On our trips to the Magic Kingdom we looked at the road and how long the route was and I didn't think it was all that bad - I was in the minority on that one. Nick did reminded me that when on the Monorail we were going about 40 mph - BRAT. Miranda and I spoofed it a bit on Saturday night and ran through the Magic Kingdom Castle as our "practice". We also noted the 1/2 mark in Liberty Square.

The castle - was amazing. We saw the lighting ceremony 2x and it just takes your breath away. It actually brought tears to my eyes on our first night seeing it. I also choked up a bit when we saw the new and improved American Adventure. I'm a wuss when it comes to that. We sure did laugh a lot and Miranda at times wondered why I bothered to put eye makeup on since most of the time I ended up laughing so hard I cried - at least once a day.

Mark is off plowing somewhere and then will go to work. Laundry, groceries and making up with the cats will be most of my day, I have to add some days to Miranda's honeymoon through DVC and then make a PS for Mama Melrose for 10 as we don't want to do the WWS pasta dinner the night before.

So much to do and then it's back to work tomorrow UGH!

Take care all.
