Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Welcome Margie!

I did a whole 2.5 miles on recumnent bike at home today. Limited on what can do by PT, but its a start and a way to do some cardio in while being benched.

Welcome Margie. I also like the half marathon training and a 15 minute mile pace. Once I am done with the full marathon in Jan never again am I going to walk 26 miles.

I have been busy so have had little time to read this thread. I did 8.5 miles on TM this morning and the extra .5 was so that I could finish my book. Then headed off to work for a couple of hours, now heading home to do all those necessary chores that need to be done.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Nancy

Welcome, Margie! You rock, girl! I am in awe of you doing your first marathon at age 60. Nancy and I are both in our mid-fifties and are training for our first full marathon in January. I am so in agreement with Nancy....after this, I don't ever want to do another full marathon again. The training has consumed my life. At this point, I am so all about the countdown clock. Today was only 8 miles but I couldn't wait for it to be over. I just kept telling myself "5 more weeks of hard training....3 weeks of taper.......and then....I DIE!" (Wow, that wasn't very inspirational, was it?) Is it normal to feel this way? Part of me is excited (and scared) and the other part just wants to get it over with. I think I will continue to do half-marathons and shorter events.....maybe! I found today's 8 miler very hard because I told myself it was going to be a piece of cake. I do much better on the long ones where I have to psyche myself up and gird my loins (here we go again!) for the long haul.
Have a happy weekend everyone. I have to clean my very messy house as there will be 14 people here (all sleeping over) for Thanksgiving and they begin to arrive on Monday.

I have said the same thing a few weeks ago. Never again for me the Donald will be my first and last 1/2 marathon. I agree, it's taken too much of my life and I have so many other things I WANT to do. I did this for my son and he's hardly trained at all. He'd better not be swept because then I'll be really ticked.

Gee what will we talk about once this is DONE. I keep hearing that we'll be so happy we'll want to do it again. I HIGHLY doubt that.

Well supper for me and then try to get rid of a darn headache! YUCK.
Wonder if a glass of wine would cure it? God knows, drugs haven't worked.

Pretty Princesses, there is a big difference between doing your first marathon and doing the second one. When you are training for your second one you know you can do it. When you train for the first one your not sure if you will make it or not.

That being said there is nothing wrong with just doing the shorter races. We race so we will keep at it and stay strong and healthy. The experience and the fun of the race weekend is just as good if your doing a half as if your doing a full.

Ultimately we do this so we have a long healthy life and not let age and lack of fitness turn us into a vertual invalid. We have come to need adventure and become addicted to testing our limits.

Have a restful night guys.

I made a decision this morning that I was going to try to talk a major shoe company into developing shoes for walkers who do marathon distances. There is nothing made for us. That bites because there are hundreds of thousands of us out there. If properly designed shoes were available we could have a lot less injuries and soreness.

The shoes we use are compromises, runners have a lot of good choices but walkers don't. The racing flats are the best but the shoe stores don't carry them so you can't try on to see what works for you.

When we do the expo at Disney, I challange each one of you to try on all the shoe companies racing flats. It may be the only way you would ever see them. I found the Mizuno Revolvers at the Pig Expo and love them, they are not perfect but the best I'd found.

I sent a couple of letters off this morning, when I get the responses from those I'll fine tune my letters to the other companies.

Rest day for me. It is rainy and cold in central PA. Went to the grocery store early today so might just spend the rest of the day inside and read a book. DS#1 is home for a visit so not sure what his plans for the day are as he is still in bed.

Dave---Good luck with your shoe campaign. I started off wearing walking sneakers but they are so heavy and once I got into longer walks I had alot of problems with my feet hurting. Currently using Saucony running shoes which is the only ones that I found that work for me.

Jeanne-- Gosh you are having a house full for Thanksgiving. It will just be the 3 of us as Erik has to work that day. I was going to just have us go out to eat, but decided to do a turkey. But I am keeping it simple. I hope to do my LW on Thanksgiving. Everyone seems ok that we are going to put up limited decorations this year because of getting the windows. Less up means less coming down in Jan. I think I am going to like that.

Denise--- Hope your headache is better.

Robert--- Sorry that you still aren't able to train very much, but good job on at least getting in some cardio on the recumbent bike.

Margie-- Impressive that you did your 1st marathon at age 60. It gives me hope that at 58 I will be able to finish my one and only full marathon.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

DId my 6 miles in the pouring down rain. I got a new Columbia Sportswear jacket a while back that claimed to be rainproof and breathable, and you know what? It was awesome! I wore my dorky fishing type hat and pulled the hood over it, and my glasses didn't even get wet....fogged up a time or two but hey, that's because I'm so FAST. :rotfl2:

1:45 for the 6 miles = 17:30 average pace. I'm gettin' there!!! Next weekend is a 9-miler for me. :scared1:

:woohoo:

 (My daughter made me put this in "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" Does anyone know what she is talking about?)

Hi Nancy,

From the time that I made the commitment to do the marathon, I had about four months to train. It really is a mind game, remember to think positive. You can do it! Quiting is not an option. My goal was to cross the finish line, be healthy, no injuries, and finish in under seven hours. I accomplished all four, earned the finishers medal and a 3RD place plaque for my division (Female:Age 60) at the Columbus Marathon in 2005.

YOU CAN DO IT :cheer2:

Enjoy His 'Son' shine!

Evening pretty princesses, Robert and Bill.

It's finally friday for Erica and I. Next week is our cut back week for the LSD so only 10 miles on tap. You have to be seriously "YARC" to look at a 10 mile walk as an easy day.

Today at work was a laugh a minute so I'm ready for my weekend. Is it time to go back to DisneyWorld yet?

We missed you princess. I was telling someone at work this weekend about the interesting couple I met from Canada. I told her they are Curlers. She thought you were hair dressers. After I explained she still didn't know what AI was talking about. I guess curling is not a main stream viewing option for the young.

Please check out the weekly thread for the idea of miles teams for 2008. We have a sign-up thread and have teams for miles competition.

Kim, Margie has joined us, she is the pretty princess with the cute grand baby in her avatar.

I wish I could figure out how to post a panda as my avatar.

Erica and I are off for a 10 mile, cut back week walk.

Curling? I love to watch Curling in the Olympics. Thankfully being only 4 hours from the Canadian border, we have one of their channels here in NH and we get to see a LOT of Olympic sports that the US networks don’t carry. By the end of the 2 weeks, I can speak a bit of French again.

Did nothing this weekend. We were replacing the floor in the bathroom and when Mark tried to put the toilet back we ran into problems with pipes crumbling. A few colorful words were spoken in heat :rolleyes1 but now at least all is back to normal – well almost, keep your fingers crossed, we’ll finish up tonight. I may do a short walk tonight but I have errands to run for my trip to WDW!!! on FRIDAY… I know, I’m so mean but I wasn’t there for the TOT so at least I have my moment now. Mark and I will be at the Flying Fish Friday night to celebrate our 33 anniv which is on the 23rd. That worked out well!

Well it is Monday, a short week so I’d better get going.

Good luck in your 10 miles Dave and Erica.

Have a wonderful time at WDW Denise, you deserve a Flying Fish after 33 years of wedded bliss.

I'm not allowed to touch tools. I was born without that "Man" gene for fixing things. Really I can severly screw up anything, badly. I can't fix cars either, I have just learned to deal with it.

Welcome Margie!!!!!! Sorry I didn't go back and read the old posts so I didn't see you. If you are a friend of Dave's you must be a little weird so you will fit right in:hug: Will you be at marathon weekend???

Denise: Enjoy your trip to Disney and happy 33rd anniversary.....!!!!!!!

Dave: I know I curling club is all older people, but all very interesting and I love spending Friday nights with them. DS also curls with us on Friday nights and thinks we are all nuts but he has a hoot, must be fun, what 18 year old boy would like to spend his Friday nights with his parents and a bunch of oldies.....but he does love curling that might have more to do with it...:thumbsup2

So are we keeping track of milage??? Oh man that means I need to convert my KMS to M.....Robert...are you there for me buddy.:upsidedow

Even though today is suppose to be a rest day I was going to do a quick 4K but just found out that my nephews, wife.....I guess that makes her my niece just had a baby boy last night, 4 weeks early:scared: , but thank goodness all is OK little Nicholas was 5lbs, 5oz.....boy my DD was 7.1 and I thought she was small since DS was 8.11 but 5.5 he is going to be tiny. So I am going to see them tonight....babys are more important then my 4K:love:

Gotta go, have a great night

Kim--- I didn't realize that you and DH were a member of a curling club. That should like so much fun as I also enjoyed watching curling during the Olympics. Don't you just love how our children will roll their eyes at our activities but are right there doing it with us.

Denise-- Have a great trip to WDW. You are going to be there at a very busy time. We are leaving the Wed after Thanksgiving so we should be avoiding alot of the crowds, I hope. Happy Anniversary and enjoy Flying Fish that is one of the restaurants I haven't made it to yet.

It is so cold and rainy that I just came home from work and put my PJ's on since it is dark at 5pm. My knee is a little sore so will use that as an excuse to not go to the gym also. It is suppose to be near 60 on Thanksgiving so I hope I can get my 16 miler in on Turkey Day.

Nancy

Thanks, Kim

Yes, Dave & Erica are friends that I met on another walking site :goodvibes
Hummmmmmmmmm...Yes, HE can be :upsidedow

I wish on the being able to go to this years WDW Marathon!
I am hoping to be able to do the Donald in 2009
Broken ankle and the arrival of my Grandson (five weeks early) I have not been able to get in anything other than 4-5 of the local 5k's this year. I seriously need to get back on track! :guilty:

Truly is Cute :goodvibes
Any news if it's has been recalled?

Yea it probably has lead in it's butt like me this morning. Getting out of a warm bed on a cold gray morning, like this to go walk, is hard.

I have 4 miles on tap but I may just do a couple and then play in the pool. I have a sore spot on my left foot under the ankle bone. I bought new work shoes and they may be causing the problem.

I'm pretty sure I just got in trouble on the weekly thread so I'll just come in here and hide.

Have an awesome morning y'all.
