Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Kim have you thought about annual passes. You pay about $500 each and it gets you the parks, park hopper style for a year. We got ours just before the ToT so we have 7 days then, 10 days in january and 10 days in May. It is the same cost as one 10 day park hopper would be.

In addition we get special rates at the resorts. For Jan we got Criabbian Beach for $99 dollars a nite. Several are staying at POFQ for the same rate with the annual pass discount.

We also get 10% off at the World of Disney, the large gift shop at DTD. I think you get some other discounts to.

It is going to be rest day for Erica and I today. We had 18 yesterday and it's pouring rain today. It's always a good idea to rest after an LSD.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Ya Dave we have thought about them a few times but Jan will be our last trip to disney for awhile, we have a few cruises booked, a trip to Quebec city, a trip to New York, and for our 25th anniversary we are doing a 27 night Hawaii and Alaskan cruise so I don't think I can fit in or afford to many more trips to disney.....but then again.......I have said that before:upsidedow

57 more sleeps till I am on my way to disney!!!!!

Rough life there Kim. but I guess someone has to do it. We are doing the Smokey Mts in December for our anniversary and then the Disney trips in Jan and May. We will probably do the ToT again next year, we are looking at a cruise sometime to. If we ever arrange a WISH cruise we would for sure go.

Mornin' WISH Walking Wonders:

OK, so last week I got in a couple of short walks without the back going crazy. Last night I went to the gym hoping for three miles; however, I only made it to 1.5 before the back started up. I could have gone longer bent over a little and gripping the rails, but I though some form would be more important. So from the TM, I went to the recumbant bike for 15 minutes, then back to the TM for another mile, then the bike for another 15 minutes. The back seems to be holding up OK so far today. So, I am thinking of possibly doing this type of mix as needed while I keep working on the abs and back to see if I can extend the walking periods to longer miles. I am also going to check into some water walking as well (Panda-Dave Do you know of any websites for this ... I mean serious ones, not the type my firm security blocks). This training stuff sure is fun.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I don't have any web sites, but I can tell you what I do when I pool train which I have a lot here lately.

The walking doesn't work the muscles that raise the knee high, so I get in the 5' lane and do sprints up and down the pool. Think running a 100m as fast as you can. But in the water it's very slow motion. I use a high knee lift to hit the quads and hams through a longer rainge than the walking does. I started doing this in ernest since I was so sore from walking around Disney for 7 days. The regular walking was using different muscles than the racewalking so I got sore doing that.

Here is my training routine:

Monday/Tues LSD, we were trying for a good walk one day and an LSD the other but one day has been raining or something else comes up so we are at least getting an LSD on one of those days.

Wed through Sat: Racewalk from 3 to 5 miles, moderate pace and then the pool running for about 15 min, then doing exercises in the pool. Think chest flys and bicep curls using cupped hands against the water resistance instead of weights. Then various trunk twists in the water again taking advantage of the water resistance. I keep my abs as tight as possible while doing these to get some effect there.

I have started trying to be regular about the stretching.

Water Panda:hippie:

I have done water aerobics class also and they told me that the exercise for 1 hour was the equivalent of a 3 mile run. You can vary the exercises to your level and no one can see you!! My DH would fall over in the water and everyone thought he was just creating a bigger splash due to extra effort! :lmao: New classes start TONIGHT!!!

Smokey Mountains sound beautiful!!!!! How many years will this be???

I can't get too excited however, the 25th anniversary cruise isn't until 2012. But it is going to cost a fortune so time to start saving.

Bill sorry to hear your back is acting up, hope some of the exercises Dave has recommended will help. I want to see you cross the finish line in January!!!!!!

I think it's 23 years Kim. You know what they say about time flys when you are having fun. Erica the wonder princess is a blast to be around.

The Smokies are an inexpensive vacation. It's a 6 hr drive and a good hotel is $69. There are great places to eat, lots of fun things to do, Ripley's Believe it or not museum, The Guiness World record museum and a nice aquairium. Plus the beautiful mts.

Yes, she is alot of fun.

We just celebrated our 20th in August so we it is awhile before #25. However we have dated since Jan 1982 so technically we have already hit #25 but apparently I can't go to Alaska yet:confused3

Sounds like a vacation I might need to plan in the future. I am addicted to travelling, I just love seeing different places in the world.

Gattlinburg in the Smokies is where we go when we want a relaxing, low bucks get away. We do a lot of walking on the hills in town. It's one of those little resort towns that is just fun to wander around in.

There is a comedy, theater there that is wonderful, we went last time we were there and decided that was a must from then on. It was a 4 hour evening of very good comedy theater for $20 per person.

I finally broke the 17 minute mile mark on my 3-miler tonight: 16:58 average! Hey, now, 2 seconds is 2 seconds!! Could I have kept going for 13 miles? Uh, no. I didn't have a near-death experience, though! Just over 8 weeks to keep whittling down that time and building the endurance. Will I make it? All I can say is I'm sure going to give it my 100% best effort!

Karla

:woohoo:

Great job Karla! Keep up the good work as you will be surprised at the improvement you can make over 8 weeks. Once on a roll, good things happen:thumbsup2

WTG Karla!!!!!! Keep up the great work.

Also I find that the atmosphere, people cheering etc will just automatically give you that little extra boost I found I needed to finish.

Your doing great!!!!

We have all been where you are now so we speak from experience about how fast you will improve. A lot of us started with a low fitness level and even a little extra fluff to go with it. But if you keep on keeping on it just gets better and better.

When I turned fifty I started back getting in shape and one lap of the mall was all I could do. I got winded washing my car windshield. Within a year I had dropped 50 lbs and was feeling really good.

There are soooooo soooooo many success stories on the WISH site. Everyone here has walked the walk and earned the right to call ourselves athletes.

Good morning Pretty Princesses, Robert and Bill.

Today will be interesting since I have a groin muscle smarting. I caught my foot on a crack in the pavement and pulled it on the 18 miler. Hopefully it will not be an issue on my walk.

Walk Strong y'all.

Training Panda:hippie:

Yikes, Dave take care of that. Groins are a common problem us that have played hockey have and they can take a long time to heal up properly so take care.

Kim

I did 4 miles on the hills and the groin wasn't an issue. I don't use that muscle when I walk I guess. I kept it easy anyway. After the walk I did the pool sprinting and exercises then stretched in the hot tub.

It was a pleasent 62 degrees with no humidity so a wonderful walk. It poured rain all day yesterday so the air smelled very clean.

Pretty Princesses, your assignment today is to look in the mirror and say, "I'm so beautiful today", and mean it. Each of you are beautiful and special and wonderful in your own way.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Karla: great job! just wait and see....you'll start improving on a regular basis now. And don't underestimate the power of race day adrenalin. Several of us know first hand how that really boosted my husband's performance. It's amazing what you can do when you're psyched.

Dave: take care of the groin! (Gee, that doesn't sound too respectable, does it?)

Speaking of groins, anyone watch Nip/Tuck? It is really risque this season.....enough to almost make this Catholic school girl blush :rotfl: :rotfl:

You guys are all newlyweds in my book. Next May when we are at WDW for the Minnie, John and I will be celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary (39 years together) and Nancy and Norm will be celebrating their 37th. We are really going to do it up big style.....dinner for 4 at Victoria and Alberts!

I couldn't get to the Y today because I had an early morning meeting. I guess this will have to be a rest day. I have only 8 miles this weekend....I can do that in my sleep! Next weekend it will be 18......at least it should help to burn off the holiday feast.

Wow, little wildfire, you have always been one to make the innocent panda blush, that must have been risque to bring a blush to your cheeks.

Groin feels better after the hot tub stretching. It wasn't an issue at all during the walk this morning.

Scampering off now Panda:hippie:

I am even behind on reading this thread. Life has been busy this week.

We have been getting estimates for replacement windows and I now know everything you ever wanted to know about windows. So several evenings have been tied up listening to window presentations, but I have tried to get my training in. So we finally made a decision after getting over sticker shock and someone is coming Sat to measure all my windows of which one is 12 ft wide and 6 ft tall in our living room. It takes 4 weeks to make the windows and then get them installed near Christmas. So the Christmas tree will either have to be repositioned since it sits in front of that window, go up much later than planned or my favorite choice would be just make do with the small tree in the family room. I usually have a schedule of what I want done each weekend leading up to Christmas so that everything gets done and I am less stressed. Will have to make major adjustments this year.
I hate disorganization so if I am cranking please just ignore me.

Robert--- You and Linda went to Sonoma and Napa Valley without me I am so disappointed. Will I be getting a bottle of wine as a gift at least? :rotfl2: How is the shin doing?

Dave-- I hope your injury is doing better.

Kim--- Both my sons were very lucky that they did not have any groin injuries all their years of playing hockey. Broken bones yes, but no groin injury. DS#2 who is 23 has started to play in a Men's league this year non checking. He has been goalie for years including in college, but since this team had a goalie he is playing out for the first time in over 10 years. The best part it is costing me nothing.

Yes, we are celebrating our anniversary with Jeanne and John at V&A. So we will be staggering out after having the Wine Pairing with dinner. If anyone see the 4 of us wandering around not knowing where we need to go, just put us onto a bus back to OKW. Eventually we might find our rooms.

Training wise. Did 5.5 miles on TM Tuesday and another 4 miles Wed. Will do 2-3 miles today and then pump class. Sat will be just an 8 mile walk. It is suppose to get cold and windy again so probably will take a good book and do the TM again at the gym. Someone wondered if anyone complained about me staying so long on the TM at the gym. Our gym has 12 TMs and the owner knows that I am training for the marathon and is ok with me using on TM for a long period of time. I try to get there at 7am when the gym opens and stake my claim. There are so many people that come and go during those hours that I don't think anyone even knows that I am on there for going on 4 hrs.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy
