Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Yes I was with Miranda this morning. Difference between her and me, when I was done, I came home, made breakfast, did my nails and collapsed into bed for an hour. Poor Miranda has to make pastries for the rest of the day at work. From about 1 PM till closing.

I did feel pretty good while walking and realized that it(6 miles) wasn't that big a deal except for the heat. Right now it's in the high 80's quite unusual for NH in October. It will cool into the 60's tomorrow and I can't wait for that.

We all have tomorrow off to head down to Boston to spend the day and see Wicked.

Next week I think we'll have to give it a 8 mile walk as we need to increase our endurance. That'll be good for a 2 hour nap :p

I do agree with the resting portion of your advice, I will rest for today and only do a short workout tomorrow, to ward off any calories we my ingest at the Cheesecake Factory.

Have a great day.

P.S. - Dave does Erica keep pace with you when you go walking or to an event together. Mark is much faster than me and I either feel like I'm always trying to catch up or I'm holding him back. I'd rather just do my own thing and see him at the end. What is your game plan?

I got up early to do 8 miles today to avoid some of the heat. It is to go to 87 today. I hope next Sat when I am doing my half that it is much cooler.

Maria-- The problem is the DQ is to close to me. I could even incoroporate a visit there when I do a 3 mile walk. My favorite is Reeses Peanut Butter Blizzard with chocolate ice cream. I've had it twice this week. So much for trying to lose 5 pounds before going to Disney.

Dave--- Given the choice hot tub and stretch or walking, I'm afraid it would be no contest the hot tub and stretching would win every time.

Denise--- I am much faster than my DH so when we go to the rail trail we each do our own thing and just meet back at the car. I used to walk back and meet him every mile but he got tired of me checking up on him. So now each of us just doing our own thing works out better. Enjoy Wicked and the Cheesecake Factory.

Ok I think I have now figured out that Miranda is Denise's daughter. Good job on your 5 miles Miranda.

Need to get to the grocery store.

Erica and I do our LSD walks together. In races we do anything over 10K together. In walk races of 10K or less I have a shot at winning but in the long distance stuff there are no walk awards anyway so we just share the experience.

I walk the shorter races like 5Ks about 2 min per mile faster than Erica, but in a marathon we are pretty evenly matched. I could probably do a 5:30 marathon walking but it wouldn't be pleasent and I would need a while to recover. We can walk a 6 hour marathon together and go dancing in the evening.

I find walking up to 15 miles is pleasent at a moderate pace. After 15 miles it's an adventure and of course 26.2 is never something to take lightly.

Thanks for asking Denise.

Evening everyone. Dave I hope you had a Happy Birthday. It was a rest day for me so had a spa pedicure. I was hoping to delay that until next weekend, but one toenail fell off so I need to get it done now. I want my feet to look really good in my Ecco sandals.

Hello, everyone!

My computer is not behaving well, so DH has spent the last couple of days working on it. It's moving a little faster, but not much! I may have to break down and buy a new one - ouch!

Training is going well. I did 9 miles today, right at 16 mpm. My friend is here from Maryland and walked with me and my usual walking partner did most of the walk, too. It was very pleasant. For some reason, though, my Garmin, which acted fine the whole walk, didn't save that training session! I don't really get that, unless the history was full?? I'd have thought it would have dropped off the oldest and saved the newest, but maybe not. Anyway, I deleted all the history out of it and I'll see what happens next time. I switched from walking Saturday to Sunday this week so my Maryland friend could go with me, so I am not walking tomorrow. However, we ARE going horseback riding. She is adult ADHD, so just being with her is exhausting! (But fun!) LOL! I LOVE three-day weekends!

I have been having problems with craving sugar. I ate hideously nearly all of last week. I seem to have done better the last 3 days, so I am hopeful that not having the sugar for 3 days will help make the cravings dissipate - at least a little! I know I am not going to lose much, if anything, before our trip to WDW, I just hope I can wear my jeans to get back home in!!

Sounds like you are all walking and doing well! I am glad to hear it! Not long now.........:dance3:

Kathy, Darlin, you are a pretty princess, the rest of us aren't losing any either so you will be among friends. You don't have to worry about will power while you are here, we will be wicked, yes we will. We can climb back on the healty eating wagon when we get home.

Dave:hippie:

Kathy, you will do fine in WDW! I will be on your backside, and as long as you are carrying me around, you will be burning calories!!!! :rotfl: However, I can't make the same guarantee when you fly one direction to spend the next week with the Dear Grandsons and I fly home! :dumbo:

Went to Boston yesterday so we didn’t do a walk. It was a lot of fun. We got a bit lost here and there but thankfully there wasn’t too much traffic so turning around was the order of the day.

Our goal to eat at the Cheesecake Factory was not met as we wanted to leave enough buffer time to get to the theater (including losing our way time) so we opted for the food court at Copley place with some yummy cookies from a Bakery called Paradise (I highly recommend the sugar cookies).

Wicked was as usual Fantastic and then we scooted home from Boston. Red Sox won so that was a bonus on the way home.

Tonight, we’ll do SOMETHING either on the treadmill or track since it is currently pouring here in NH. On top of that, we have to work today so it’s even more dreary. But with darkness setting early, I like being at the safety of the track or treadmill - no cars or muggers.

I guess if you have to work on a Monday holiday it might as well be raining! 3 weeks from today I’ll be on vacation so at least I can get my training done in the am. TTFN, enjoy your walks.

Not sure what all of you are flying to the Marathon and back – we always use SWA as they have direct flights from our town.

I checked today and was able to change our flight to a little later on Monday January 14th and save $330 in the process for the 5 of us.

Guess we’ll be able to make the Breakfast meet at the BW Bakery if it’s still on.

Dave: Happy (belated) Birthday!!!!! :bday: :cake: party: Sorry I missed the actual day, but Sundays are usually pretty crazy around here, so very often I go the whole day without even turning my computer on.

Let's see, Saturday John and I walked 10 miles together with an overall pace of 15:37. For him, that is very good. We probably would have been quite a bit faster but it's hot again and we did not take any hydration. I think he really struggled with the last mile and that slowed our overall pace. We have the Raleigh half-marathon coming up soon, and I am still in a quandry. Part of me wants to see how effective all this training has been and wants to go for a PR. But I also don't want to leave John alone in the dust. He says to just go for it, but I feel very guilty leaving him. What to do, what to do?

Don't worry, Nancy, when we do the full I just want to finish. I keep thinking that if we do the half a little slower than our Allentown time, we will have a big cushion for the second half. So far my longest walk has only been about 14 miles so I don't know how my body is going to react when I get up to the high teens and 20's. It should be interesting. I'd like to finish and be comfortable enough that I can go to the Pleasure Island party without being gimpy.

Nancy: Is the half on Saturday or Sunday?

Denise: Glad you had fun in Boston.

Morning, everyone!

Dave - obviously you're not worrying about whether you can get into your jeans for the next week of vacation after WDW or being able to wear them on the flight home! Lucky you! I don't expect to eat perfectly, but I hope not to eat wickedly either! Somewhere in the middle would be juuuuuuust right! :)

Connie - one thing I am sure of is that I'm not going to be carrying you! For one thing, you know your feet would be dragging the ground if I tried to carry you piggy-back! :scared: But I am counting on you to "raise your eyebrow" at me if you see my doing something TOO crazy! LOL!

Still hoping for horseback riding this afternoon, but we're having trouble getting in touch with the stable, so we may end up walking after all. Which would be just fine with me!!!

You all take care and keep on walkin'!!!!!!!

Kathy

Kathy & Connie--- You should each get those sneakers that have rollers in them and then you can take turns pulling each other. Don't tell Jeanne but that is how I plan to complete the marathon and I will even let her cross the finish line first since she will be pulling me along.

Jeanne--- My half is on Sat and it doesn't start until 9:45am. The hotels were so expensive so we are driving into Hunt Valley, MD and then taking the light rail in Sat morning This race is staggered with the marathon starting first, then relay team, 5K and finally the half. The weather is to cool off by Thursday and should be similiar to what we had in Allentown. My one friend is doing it with me. There is no race package pick up before the race so her and I are going down Thursday after work to go to the expo and pick them up. It is going to be a training walk so will be doing a slower pace than we did in Allentown. I am just thrilled to walk somewhere other than the rail trail for my LW. John seems to be improving with his walking so maybe he will surprise you when you do the Raleigh half and you won't have to worry about leaving him in the dust.

Denise--We usually fly SWA but their prices never came down when flying out of Baltimore so we booked AirTran instead. I have a credit with SWA that I am going to have to use before next summer so I was hoping that the price would fall, but even with the credit it was still cheaper on Air Tran.

Training today was 4 miles. Even at 6pm it was still hot and humid.

Hey guys.

Erica and I did a 12 miler today. We planned to do 14 but it was 90 degrees by the time we called it a day. I even drank water during the walk. It was pretty uneventfull, I was worried since I was so sore yesterday. After drinking lots of water yesterday and taking a couple of advil before bed I was fine today.

Have a super evening.

Daze:hippie:

All my soreness was gone this morning, even though I didn't get much sleep. We decided to let Will Turner the Kitten start sleeping in our bedroom instead of the hall up against the door. Bad decision, kitty was a wild child.

Kim thanks for sending the cool Canadian air down to us.

I have to work a 12 hour shift today for inventory. Y'all stay out of trouble and remember the advice on the Asprin Bottle:

"Keep in a cool dry place and keep away from children".

Have a wickedly fun day.

Dave:hippie:

Dave - 12 miles?? Holy crap!!

I did 4 on the TM last night since I was alone, both Miranda and Mark were not feeling good. BUT I jogged for 30 min and then did my fast walk the rest of the time. I actually can walk the same pace as the jog so I may switch to just fast walking- with the right music that is. Wow did I feel good after that walk and still feel good today. No soreness except for on the side of my knee so when I go for my monthly massage tomorrow night I may ask her to do my legs a bit instead of just my neck.

We finally can sleep at night without a fan or a/c and it is heaven. I do love the cooler weather. For the first time in weeks I had a great nights sleep. I'll be off the wall at work today.

Love hearing about all the upcoming walks/and events you will be doing. This Sunday we have a walk for the fallen - the Police Dept sponsors it for the policemen who have died in the line of duty. It's only a 5k but it'll be good for a walk and a great cause.

Have a fab day all.

denise

Cycling today followed by my fast short walk. I did 2 miles in 26:42, but that was because I jogged 2 quarter-mile stretches. I have no intention to jog during any of my events, but I think it's good cardio and then makes the fast walking seem easier.

I agree, that may be why it went so well last night for me. Jogging for 30 min and then fast walking for the remainder of the time.

Now you have the rest of the day to have some FUN

Hi Guys!

Just a quick check-in...I had a cold over the weekend, but I'm much better now. I missed my two outdoor workouts, but I did do 5 miles on the TM last night, and I should get another 5 in tonight.

Hearing about all these races is making me think I should find one! Maybe next year I can do ToT. If I keep this up for over a year, dh will not doubt my commitment!

Denise -- I am glad you are enjoying Autumn. I agree, this is very pleasant!:goodvibes

Jeanne -- You are moving! My jog is actually slower than my fast walk:confused3

Dave -- I hope your birthday was all you could have hoped for! :woohoo: I love the "advice".

Nancy -- Good luck on your half, it sounds like alot of fun!:cool1:

Kathy -- Did you end up walking or horsin' around? I am deathly afraid of horses. I used to cringe as a junior girl scout when my troop decided every year to go horsebackriding with our cookie money. :scared1:

Connie -- It is so thoughtful of you to offer to let Kathy carry you around so she can lose weight! What a trooper!:lmao:

Good Walking to All, and to All a Good Afternoon!
Maria

Maria, you know good friends do whatever they have to, to help each other out! I am willing to make great sacrifices to be a team player!!! :lmao:

Nancy, I almost bought a pair of "heelies" as my grandchildren call them. But I asked myself, "Self? Will you be gracefully lifting your toes and flying along at 58 mph or will you gracefully lift your toes and hit the pavement at 58 mph?? " Since there was no way to win this argument with myself,:teleport: I bought ordinary Asics.

Woohoo!! I just did 4 miles at less than 16 min. a mile. And I did it in sand and gravel and rolling hills!!! I think I done good. :)

Maria: You can definitely do a race! A year ago this sort of accomplishment was the absolute furthest thing on my mind. Watching my daughter run her first marathon at WDW last year got me thinking. We met so many people when we were there. Some of them did not look like athletes, but they had done it before and were doing it again. Everyone was incredibly nice and supportive. I started speculating that maybe with lots and lots of practice I could do a half come January. One thing led to another and Nancy(padisneyfan) and I did our first half in April. It was so relatively easy that we decided to go for it and signed up for the full. Trust me, I would have NEVER thought it would be possible. I am old (almost as old as Dave!) and overweight but I AM doing this. People just raise their eyebrows when I say I am training for a marathon, but when I get my medal I will have the last laugh. You never know what you can do until you try. Don't be afraid to give it a shot.
