Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

I did my first afternoon walk today, since I'm now back at work. It was hot, hot, hot!!! I haven't looked yet at the info from my Garmin to see my time, but I know it definitely was not my best so far! But, that's okay. I still did my four miles! Yesterday was a rest day and I'll swim laps tomorrow. We are having 2 of our 5 grandsons for the weekend (4 years old and 1 year old), but I still plan to get my long walk in and then run after them the rest of the weekend! LOL!

Kathy

Kathy, sorry it was hot for your walk in Canon City! It was 53 when I started my 6 miles today. See what a little altitude does for you? BTW, I really love the shirt they had for Bolder Boulder, Sea Level is for Sissies!

Take care everybody!

Congrats Jean on signing up for the marathon!!!

PatsBill: Sorry to hear you are having back issues, but glad you are still with us. No chance of iceburgs here, we are in the middle of another heat wave!!!

Denise: Wow that is terrible, it is horrible that after all these years there is nothing they can do to help.

Kathy: No my 1/2 is on Sept 30th...but I am feeling good about it for the first time. I think donig that 19K and living to tell the tale has helped. We are arriving Thurs as well. Some of us are meeting at ESPN on Thursday for dinner if you haven't anything else planned.

Westcliffemom: Well I don't know what 53 is but Iknowit is alot cooler then the 42 with the humidex I am dealing with right now:headache: but the heat is suppose to break tonight.

No training last night, I got home late from work and things just didin't happen but since tonight was suppose to be the rest day we will just switch and I will do 6K tonight.

Have a great day all

Kim

we were discussing the Marathon as one of my co-workers will be doing the 1/2 with me.

How many total entrants are their for

1/2
Full
Goofy

They are Full but what exactly does that mean. Our 8K tomorrow will be about 300 which isn't very big at all.

Anyone got a clue?

Full 18,000
Goofy 3,000

Robert the real question is how many WISH team members will be in each event? Any idea what those numbers are?

I went for a very nice 4.5 mile walk this morning. The humidity was down a bit so that made a lot of difference.

Erica is still under the weather, she had to stay home from work last night. I miss her since she just sleeps after taking her pain med.

Denise, will building strength in your back and abs help your condition?

Bill, how ya feeling wild man?

Kathy, you are doing great, can't wait to meet you and Connie.

Connie have you warned Kathy that some of us on here are on the bare edge of normal?

Jeanne, I heard that for some reason there is run on bead sales in the Orlando area.:confused3 There are going for a premium price to.

Nancy where are you dear?

Kim, isn't it cool up there in the far North?

Have an awesome day guys.

Sorry I haven't been much into it this week guys. It's just been one of those yucky weeks we have once in a while. But they make the good weeks that much better.

I need a Disney fix. No work, lots of fun and exercise, and oh my yes the food. MMMMMMMMMMMM

Have a great weekend y'all.

You pretty ladies just fit right in.

I'm sure glad this week is almost over, I'm drained. Next week looks promising with Erica feeling better.

Have a wonderful evening y'all.

Well yesterday we went for our 8K. I didn't have a headache so that was a blessing! It had to be 95 and VERY humid. I had found some lime green skirt shorts for Miranda and I to wear and they were very light so we decided to break in our WISH attire.

There were only 300 of us in the run, it was not for walkers and there were about 6 walkers in the group. We took off and as usual by mile 2 into 3 I was a mess. I was off my pace, extremely hot and when we turned after mile 3 I got back into my grove. The last 4+ miles of the race is mostly uphill and some of it was on newly paved road - talk about HOT I wanted to give up but didn't, Mark was encouraging and geez, like Dave I didn't want to be LAST.

Miranda did great she did it in I think 57 min but I finished at 1:09. Not what I wanted but I'll take it. I didn't pass out and I was glad I was able to finish. My co-worker Karen who runs said she had to walk part of the race, especially at that newly paved area. I did feel better after talking to her but was still disappointed in my time of 14+ per mile.

It's a bit cooler today but I'm taking today off.

take care all

Denise, you are a warrior. That really shows your inner strength. Most people simply could not have done what you did. The heat and humidity as well as over coming your injury. You are my Hero today.:flower3: I have been training in that kind of heat so I know exactly what you were facing.

This is a rest day for Erica and I. Then we will be fresh for a good week next week.

Have a wonderful family day y'all.

Denise, don't feel bad at all about a 14+ minute/mile pace in 95 degree heat! (In fact that was precisely the pace I was able to maintain for my half marathon last weekend where it was almost 10 degrees cooler.) As the weather cools, your times are almost guaranteed to improve. I don't know what it's like in your neck of the woods, but I've almost completely foregone the local 5Ks (or other shorter races) here. Often if you aren't finished in under 30 minutes, the finish line is shut down and everyone has gone home. The exception is those races for charities that invite local school and community groups. Good for you for getting out in the heat in a race you knew wasn't designed for walkers and finishing well. I hope you're proud of yourself.

As a matter of fact we were not even 1/4 of a mile into the race when the police officer in his cruiser told us that if we were to walk the entire race that he would not keep up with us he had to stay behind the runners and bock traffic for them. Ya, Thanks for nothing! All but one water station was shut down by the time we reached them, thankfully we brought our own bottles of water that we used sparingly. It was NOT a race for walkers at all and since it was supporting the Heart Association, you would think it would be for all abilities.

Your right I live in NH for that reason, I can't stand the heat. I'd rather be out in 20 degrees than 80. The coldest I've ever gone out for a 3 mile was 15 degrees and that had a hefty wind chill too. I decided that was just a bit too cold. 20 and above is good but below 70 is better. I hope that it is a bit chilly for the Donald so I can start off strong.

Good morning, all!

Busy weekend for everyone, it looks like! I didn't get my walk in yesterday as I had planned because both grandsons were up before the crack of dawn. Usually I get up before they do and do my walk and they're just rolling out of bed when I get back. But not this time! I just didn't have the heart to leave DH alone with two starving boys!

Stacey - It's been nice and chilly even down at this altitude in the mornings, but the afternoons have been quite hot. I think it was 89 degrees when I got finished Thursday afternoon. If you ever get to Canon, maybe we could do the riverwalk together some time! I'd love that!

Kim - Sorry, I thought your 1/2 was this weekend! I get my days confused easily! So, three weeks yet, huh? Probably your training is slowing down some, resting up for the big day! You've had such a busy few weeks, what with work and family and vacations and ball games! It's amazing to me that you still are managing to do your workouts! Steff and I have reservations Thursday evening at the Marakesh (not sure that's spelled right), but I hope to meet you at some point during the time we're there.

Dave and Erica - Erica, I sure hope your tooth is better! Those things are just miserable! Dave, as Steff (Connie) said, no warning was really necessary! LOL!

Denise - Gosh, I'd be thrilled at a 14+ race at this point! How'd you manage to do that with all the physical problems you've had and the meds you're on! I think you did FABULOUS!!!!! You're such an inspiration!

I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible at ToT!! I am really anxious to go! I could be packed in 15 minutes!!! LOL!

Erica is much better today, thank you all for your well wishes. She will take one more recovery day and then be back at it.

So Kathy are you trying to say you and Connie are always up for a wickedly good time?:flower3:

We tend to not eat very smart at the House of Mouse. I normally shy away from burgers and fries and fish and chips and other such decatent delights. I have never bonded with salad as a comfort food.

Have a great evening all, Sunday is eary to bed day for us.

That logical reasoning sort of compares to one of my philosophical standards of life and proving (to myself) that I exist:

I drink, therefore I am.

Bill, Dude, where ya been. I thought you went walking and got eaten by land sharks. How's the back?

Be careful Robert is trying to get people pumped up about the last Minnie already. Whatever you do don't show fear.

Good morning my fellow walkers:grouphug:

Life is good!!!!!! Beautiful September Day here in Southern Ontario!!!!!

Got my 18K in yesterday...actually 18.2 in 2:49 still slower then I am aiming for but as long as I am ahead of the sweepers I will be happy.

PatsBill:wave2:

WWDave Glad to hear Erica is starting to feel better, that bug sure caught ahold of her eh?

Kathy We ahve always wanted to try that restaurant but we won't have park tickets this trip only for MNSSHP. We will meet you Friday at Boardwalk, we won't be doing the golf but we will be joinning in for dinner.

Denise Congrats on your 8K, that is terrible that they didn't have the roads secure and water stops open until all participants where off the course. Also set themselves up fora huge liability issue

Hope everyone is doing well, I believe 44 more sleeps and I will be packing for ToT!!!!! Can't wait.

Kim

Dave:hippie:

I've been here Dave. As a big guy, I'll take you not "seeing" me as a compliment. Its tough for us big guys to move around and not be seen/noticed. One land shark did try (tried the old "Candy-gram" trick), but I stared him down. (I think the fact I had a couple of pounds on him and probably could have taken him best out of 5 probably helped too.)

In reality, I have been reading the threads regularly and keeping up. On the training side, not too much walking to report. The back spasms seem to have finally stopped without the use of too much medication (although the doc offered me more last week, I declined). I am now just working on the residual pain and stiffness. This episope (probably moderate on my scale) does not seem to have thrown off the alignment too much and I have tried to keep doing some exercise (mostly back related) and day-to-day moving throughout to keep the effects minimal. I have also been getting in some strength training and a few stationary bike workouts.

My plan for this week is to keep up with the strength workouts, increase the stationary bike workouts (to at least try to keep building up the cardio) and try to get three walks in. I plan to take the walks easy pace wise, but see where my distance is so I can figure out the best and safest way for me to get back on ToT and Donald training. Knowing that my body crashes without notice, I am glad now that I signed up for the ToT 6.5K rather than trying to push for the 13K. Even as is, I might be able to beat the 37:00 minute per mile ToT 6.5 pace (with a long recovery and a six-pack or two after).

Anyway, everyone keep up the great work. I am lurking, gaining motivation from everyone and trying to pick-up helpful information as I go.

Bill? Is that different from, "I am, therefore I drink?" :lmao:

Bill? Is that different from, "I am, therefore I drink?" :lmao:

Yes, that would be different. The above would prove only that you drink. My logical reasoning (based on Descartes' premise "I think therefore I am"), proves that I exist because I drink. Of course, the fallicy to Descartes premise is that he assumes he is thinking for purposes of proving his existence. I, on the other hand, usually know when I am drinking (at least when I start). Unfortunately for me, things like this (and why we park on driveways and drive on parkways (George Collin)) start running through my head when I don't keep myself occupied and that is why I rarely get much sleep. I probably should have majored in something other than history and philosophy in college. Oh well, it at least keeps me off the streets (except when training) and keeps my kids on their toes trying to figure out what I am talking about at least half of the time.
