Walkers Sharing Experiences

Tracy you are coming right along with the pace. You will be right on my heels soon.

A lot of people don't know but Robert is one of the few walkers to ever qualify for the Western States 100 endurance race. He had to walk 5o miles in under 10 hours to qualify, that's a sub 12 mpm pace for 50 miles. No wonder his legs are having problems now. I couldn't do that, at least not yet.

Right now I can't imagine walking 50 miles, let alone at a sub 12 mpm pace. I must say that it does sound challenging and perhaps sometime in the future, something to challenge myself with. But maybe I should at least do my first 1/2 marathon first. :rotfl:

SamSam (Sharon), Are you doing the half in Jan or March or both??

SamSam (Sharon), Are you soing the half in Jan or March or both??

I wish! I had planned on going in March, but have had to back out. DH and I were having trouble fitting in our different trips (visits with grandkids out in Calif.), so I had to cancel our March trip. I am going to arrange things so I can do the 1/2 in Jan of 2010.

I am doing Race for the Taste this year and plan on just really enjoying myself.
Tracy, your times are awesome, you are really getting fast. Way to go!

Us walkers haven't been keeping up lately.

I did a local 5K this morning.
I walked to the park as it wasn't that far away. I did a 1.69 mile walk to the park in the dark.
Started the 5K and was sweating and dripping before it even started!! Very hot and humid before the sun even came up!! UGh. I started a bit fast, I hate that because as a racewalker you find yourself in a "weird" area of a local race. They are mostly runners and then you have the run/walkers and then fitness walkers and the leasurely walkers. I fall between the run/walkers and the fitness walkers. As the race starts I like being around people so I tend to try and stay up with the slower runners. Then I realize I need to slow down some and settle into my own pace and race. I then start to do the leap frog thing and play "tag - your it!". My official finish time was 39min 29.2sec. Pace was 12:44. Out of 203 racers I placed 119th.
This was a PR for me in a 5K, even better than the judged racewalk I did in May!!! :woohoo:
I kept seeing a black and white looking object ahead of me and then it would disappear, I was trying to catch up to it and pass and stay ahead of all the leap froggers.
I then walked home, 1.75miles.
I just want to encourage all you/us walkers to get out there and do some races even if they don't have a walkers division or a judged racewalk as part of it. You would be amazed at how people react to you when they see how you are pumped up and keeping pace. People say how much they are amazed and they think it is hard and stuff. Just do your own thing and get out there and race!! It's fun and rewarding.:cool1:

I need to do like a database/spread sheet or something to put in my best times for different distances and keep track of all that stuff.

Racey Tracy

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((Tracy)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

That black and white object was cheering for you.:yay:

I sent you a link to results of one of our local walk races here so you could see where you would have come in.

Thanks for the report, I will not be racing again for about 2 weeks, the saturday before I leave for WDW. It will be a 3k on a hilly kitty litter trail.

Oh no, what's happening to this thread? Is everyone just posting on the main running/walking thread? It's like I just arrived at the party but nearly everyone is gone already  :guilty: :sad2:

Great job on your 5K, Tracy!:thumbsup2 :woohoo: :thumbsup2

I also achieved a personal best this weekend, although I can't give you a fully accurate time because #1) we were using a wrist watch and not a garmin and #2) there was no 3.1 finish line so we had to estimate using the 3 mile marker and adding .1 to that. I do know that we were under 40minutes for the complete 5K which is definitely my quickest time. My son is a really fast walker and that made it easy for me to up my pace. (I'm usually faster than my walking partner, so this was a different experience for me.) We hit the 2mile mark just under25 minutes, which is like flying compared to my usual pace. I think that's why I found the obstacle course to be so tough.....my legs hadn't recovered from the fast walking and I was making them do all sorts of new tricks.
I LOVED doing EEC but I loved it most of all because I got to do it with my son who even agreed to wear a WISH shirt!

Hey Darlin, good to hear from you again. I know this thread is not going to strong right now, most of the walkers who posted on here have started posting on my walking daily log on the DisneyRunning.com site. I do try to keep this one going though.

Have you visited my new Blog? It's at PandaEndurance.com I do a daily post there kinda like a YARC post.

Can't wait to give you a hug and laugh with you at the ToT. Remember the party after, we have more going this year.

Also there is a women's half marathon in Toronto on May 31st, Kim our Canadian friend is hosting any gals wanting to go, Erica, Kim, Vicky, Liz and Stacey are signed up so far. Entry fee is only $40. Be a good one for you and Nancy.

OK, where is all the walkers, the "back of the packers"??? The soical party animals???? This thread is dead.

I have PM everyone that has posted in this thread to find out where you all are.......

Things are good here, I just start "official" Half training last week. Going good. Couldn't walk after work yesterday do to the buckets o'rain so I will get out there today after work.

Decided I can't wear my racing flats for anything longer than 5 miles. On Sunday when I walked to the park and back. My feet started to bother me as I started to walk home, espcially the balls of my feet.

Take care all, Tracy

:yay: Here I am:yay: Good morning Team!

I haven't posted much on this thread, but I am gearing up to start my official training for the WDW half in January. I use John Bingham's MfM plan, which means that Disney is only 14 weeks away (next week). I am so amazed at how quickly this year has flown by, and now I'm counting down to January again.

Hi Pat, how ya been princess? Yes we are getting to that time of year to be getting ready for the big show. And this year has flown by.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Hey all you walkers! I leave in 20 minutes for a 3 drive to the airport, for a 3 flight to Orlando. Yay!! I'll be there at 4 this afternoon. I will be doing RFTT and I hope after 12 days of Food and Wine I can make it to the finish.:lmao: :lmao: Seriously, I do plan on walking a minimum of 1/2 an hour on a TM every other day, and of course all the walking one generally does while there. Well, I'd better get things loaded.
Everyone, keep up the good work.:goodvibes

SamSam: have a safe journey and a wonderful time at the F&WF. Good luck with the race.

Tracy: what are your "racing flats"?

Pat: good to hear from you again. My training for the full should have already started, but it's been pretty sporadic. I think I have "Been there, done that" syndrome.

Dave: the Toronto race sounds fun, but we will be cruising again that day. (Nancy and Norm will be with us also) That would have a good race since I understand Toronto is not too far from my daughter in MI. BTW, she is doing the Detroit marathon in just a few weeks. This will be her first non-Disney full.

Let's keep this thread alive!

Ok, now that I've been yelled at by Tracy.....

Just so many threads to keep up on and after spending all day at work on the computer it's really not something I want to do at night especially when the weather is good.

I had to return the racing flats. Anything over 2.5 miles and my feet and ankles hurt. Just don't think they have enough support for me with the joint damage. I do have to find a new pair of shoes though and soon.

Promise to try and keep up here better and post. With everyone's training picking back up for WDW we should have lots to talk about! Heck who am I kidding....we can always find something to talk about!

Later!

Im here also. I also find it hard to keep up with all the threads and post regularly. Actually posting doesn't seem to be something alot of people are doing this week. Threads are slow.

I usually only post through the day.....at work....shhhhhhhh to much to do when I get home at night.

have a super day all

Sorry I've been M.I.A. I too haven't been posting anywhere, but will do my best to keep up.:thumbsup2

I completed the Rock-N-Roll Virginia Beach half marathon in August and my time wasn't great due to the heat. My "official" time was 3:39, but I'm glad I survived because having lived the past 12 yrs. in snowy Co. I thought I would die from the heat and humidy. The course itself was nice and relatively flat compared to where I live, so that was very enjoyable. My walking partner, Tammy, and I had a blast and seriously laughed most of the way.

I'm gearing up for the Denver half on Oct. 19th and then I'm heading to Texas for White Rock, in Dec.

We have 2 demo stationary bikes, at work, which are really neat. You can race against other pacers and have many scenic routes you can choose from and the handle bars actually turn so that you can turn with the corners. It's so fun! Has anyone else heard of these, or tried these bikes?

Keep walking strong team!:thumbsup2

Hi guys.

Glad to see everyone back, Jeanne get Nancy's butt over here to. You two are a team and a happening, can't wait to see you awesome ladies again.

Tracy and Liz, Erica doesn't wear her flats much either, she likes the Asics Stratus, the Muizuno Wave Rider and the Nike Moto series.

I would recommend to every one that at the Disney Marathon Expo that you try on lots of shoes. I plan on looking at a lot of different races since they are working well for me. I wear the Brooks Mach X, the Mizuno Revolver and the NB 790 trail racer. My favorite is the Brooks.

Monte, it's your fault that the WISH has a Panda infestation so you better not stay away.

Sam Sam have fun at the race and eat lots of fun stuff at the F/W booths.

Everyone have a great evening.

Hey, glad to see some of you posting!!!

Hey Pat (my CCI DL 1/2 teammate!!): Yea. I agree, it's now only 14 weeks away. Better get moving. My "plan" is a 16 weeker so I officially started about 2 week ago. I really just kept going after the DL 1/2. This Sunday I will do an 8miler as long as the weather cooperates. According to the schedule not supposed to do 8 until Nov.9th. I figure I'm just way ahead of myself. GO team!

SamSam: Have fun at the house of the Mouse!! Good Luck and have fun at the RFTT!!

Jeanneg: My racing flats are pretty much just for that. When I do my judged racewalks or 5ks I use them. Very flat on the bottom I use the men's NB600s, I find mine on the NBwebexpress.com website. I usually where a women's wide, but the men's regular works for me. Just not alot of cushiong or padding and for me - not good for long distances and my joint in my feet start to feel it.

Liz: I wasn't YELLING!!! ummmm, just gettin out my wet noddle for some lashings!!
hop.gif

I agree about the racing flats. I tried the mizuno wave riders (wide) for training for the DL 1/2 and during the race. Worked pretty good!! I also use the NB 903s for distances under 8 miles right now, they work pretty well and I feel had inbetween cushing and support from the racing flats and the NB903s. I am also looking into trying the NB 805s.

Monte: Congrats on your finishing the VA beach Half!!!:cool1: The bikes sound cool!!

Hockeychic: Hey :wave2:

Hey Dave:Yeah, hopefully I can get to the EXPO on Thursday night with some extra time to try on some shoes.

Have a great evening everyone!!

Tracy

Monte: Great job on the Virginia beach R&R! Are you doing anything at WDW in January?

I've been wearing Mizuno Wave Riders (Wide) for almost 2 years now. Whatever other shoe I try, I still always go back to the Wave Riders.

I too have been MIA around here as I have been doing more bike and elliptical miles than getting out on the track or the treadmill. Plus, I have been getting wore out at work so I haven't been able to put as much time in as I was in the past. Now, I have a wrist injury and I can't do any lifting at all right now.:scared1: That hurts because I was just starting to get the defintion that I have wanted for the last 10 years. So now, all I can do is cardio and some ab routines. I was actually planning on biking about 10-15 miles tonight at the gym and then go to the track for a 5 mile excursion. Then, my ankle started killing me and I thought I better not so I will ice it down tonight and then hit it tomorrow.

I guess I have been napping somehow. I hadn't come to the realization on how close the race in January really is. Now, I am nervous. I have to get my big butt in gear.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Tracy, thanks fo rthe kick in the pants! It was needed!

Bryan
