Walkers Sharing Experiences

Unfortunately no I won't be joining the TEAM in January. I doubt if I'll make it back to the WDW marathon until 2013...how sad:guilty: Iam however, going to participate in the ToT in 2009, so hopefully I'll see you guys there:thumbsup2

Weatherman says snow on Sunday and Monday:eek: so it looks like we're gearing up again for a loooooooooooong winter. :cold:

Have a great weekend.

Monte: WOW !! Snow, you have to get out your snowshoes for walking already???? I guess that can be considered cross training.

Sorry to hear you won't be back to WDW in Jan for sometime. I may try for the ToT in 09. I am also thinking of doing the DL 1/2 on every even year (so next one would be 2010)

la, la la la...I'm not listening to Monte..... Snow is a 4 letter word. I just cannot even think about that considering how long this past winter was.

I've got the 2009 WDW 1/2, the Princess 1/2 and maybe Race for the Taste. Thinking DL 1/2 in 2010.

Got 3 miles on tap for tonight. Would like to get out on bike tomorrow but may be pool eve depending on how test goes. Sunday we have a 5K that is hillier than anything I normally do so we'll see how that goes.

Yeah Liz: DL 1/2 in 2010!!!! Sounds like a plan.!!I really enjoyed being there with WISHers (and Jeff - hehe) I liked the Candy Cane Inn that Pat and Susie and the DH and I stayed at. We had rooms right next to each other.

Did a good 4.04 miles at my Mount Trashmore Park tonight. It one of a handful of parks in South Florida that has a hill. It has a trail around the outter part and a paved roadn that goes up to the top where there are parking lots and stuff. It is an old trash dump that is not longer in use. In Florida you can't bury the garbage it just goes into piles that become hills/mountains. This one is called Vista View Park. I like this park because it gives me different challenges. I did a great pace of 14:19 for those 4.04 miles and really is my best pace at this park.

I have 09 races planned:
Jan WDW 5K & Half Marathon
Jan ING Miami Half Marathon
March WDW Princess Half
Some local Racewalks.

Take care walkers....

Tracy
Take care walkers!!!

Well Walkers! I finally did it. I got my butt of the bike tonight and started my training for the half. It has been several weeks since I have done any walking or jogging so I took it easy. I only did a 5k on the treadmill. I did throw some jogging in there just to speed up my time a little (and help with cardiovascular). I was able to finish in 43:40. I was ok with that time since I knew how long it had been. Afterwards, I did sit down and crank out some more miles on the bike. It felt good to be able to do both during my workout but I will let you know how I really feel tomorrow. The last time I did a race, I hurt the next day something terrible but I think that was because I had pushed myself harder than I had trained. The lessons we have to learn.:confused3

lol:rotfl: I'll keep you posted if we get any white stuff, or not.:lmao:

Neat article Tracy. I do use my stability ball sometimes when on the computer at home. Believe me you can feel it!

Monte - gee, thanks........;)

Hey Walkers - crazy here in Central Ohio as I wind down my training for the Columbus Half Marathon on Oct 19 and finish recovering from the Hurricane Ike winds that clobbered us a few weeks ago. Even though we are more than 1000 miles from Houston/Galveston, we got an Ike wind storm with gusts to over 75 mph. Ohio suffered from widespread extended power outages. I lost my power for 5 1/2 days, sigh....

Last Sunday, my "long" training was a 20K race - my first time at that particular distance. I placed 3rd among female walkers, just out stepping my walking partner and sister by 3/10ths of a second :cool1:

The newest twist in my training plans has been an invitation to join a group of women from my company who are training to walk the Columbus Half. I had spoken to one woman at a number of races in the last 2 years and she issued the invitation to join this group. Imagine my surprise when I went to the training kickoff get together and discovered that the group consisted of senior female execs and the wives of our male senior execs. Don't know how I got into this particular sandbox since I am not an exec :rolleyes1

The group is very nice and I discovered that I am the most experienced walker in the pack. I have tried to relay the good advice I have picked up from Dave and Robert among others on this board. Everyone seems eager to learn and they ask a lot of questions. I think everyone in the group has learned a lot about the basics of roadracing. All are eager to participate in the half in just a few short weeks.

Everyone in the group has the same goal - wish each other luck at the start, strive for our personal comfort zones, finish strong and meet up at the finish line for hugs all around :thumbsup2

I have become the "pacer" for some of ladies who are shooting for a time goal near my own. I tease them that they just want to stick with me as I use a Garmin and can provide splits to keep everyone on target for pacing :lmao:

Happy Walking to All

Walkergirl, when you strap on the walking shoes you are all equal, you are all road warriors. When we have our gatherings at Disney it doesn't matter if you are a Doctor a CPA a lawyer or an unemployed factory worker, we are all family. They are even nice to me and make me feel wanted.

Hello walkers!

Thanks, Tracey, for bringing me back to the fold. :goodvibes

I have done VERY LITTLE walking since the DL half. I may be in trouble for the half marathon that I have planned at the end of this month. Yikes! I have one more bike event next week (100K, 63 miles) and then it's time to get dust off my w/r shoes.

As mentioned, I'm planning on participating in a new half-marathon here in Arkansas - Soaring Wings Half - Oct. 25. It's a race benefiting abused and neglected children. In November, I am participating in the San Antonio Half-marathon with some other WISHers. Should be a lot of fun. In December, I'm tentatively planning to participate in the Dallas White Rock Half. Then, of course, the WDW half in January. Whew! My head is spinning. The cruise with Nancy and Jeanne sounds better. Any more room in your suitcase, Jeanne?

Wendy, hope you had a happy birthday! The series of racing events sounds fun. I like the idea of a banquet afterwards.

For all you EEverest participants - it sounds like you all had a great time. I'd like to do that some day.

For SamSam and anyone else doing Race for the Taste - eat some cheese soup for me and drink a little bubbly as well. :teeth: I like the idea of combining the race with the F&W festival and Mickey's Not So Scary H. party. I thought that I was going to get to go but I just couldn't justify the cost for this trip. Maybe next year.

For those doing ToT - I know you'll have fun. I enjoyed it last year. I wonder if the "asylum" folks will be doing their thing again. That was funny last year.

For all you speedy walkers out there - great job! I can't keep up with you. Maybe someday. :upsidedow

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Bubba: Nice work on getting back out there!! Don't try and over do and start running to speed up your walking!! Speed comes in time. (Unless you like adding in the running, and if so then go for it.)

DisneyWalkerGirl: Good job on the 20K!! Sounds like an interesting little walking group tha you are now in with. Keep us up to date with how that is going. (gossip - gossip)

Susie: Hey girl, glad to have you back, I missed you since DL - that was a fun time. Thinking of maybe making that an every other year race, so maybe every even year. I think Liz maybe thinking about doing it in 2010. Good luck with the bike race. I promised myself a new bike when I get to 20lbs weight lose. I may get you and Liz to help me with that.

I did 4 miles this morning in the drizzling rain. I hope to do 8 tomorrow but the weather is very bad. At the game in the last quarter, the sky just opened wide and poured buckets on us. It is still raining and thundering as I write this.

Have a good evening.

Tracy

Hi guys.

I rested today and will again tomorrow but Monday it's back to the strong efforts.

Susie, glad to see you back, you're not doing ToT this year?

Have a restfull evening y'all.

Hey Walkers.
Training coming along good. Was able to get in 8 miles this morning in between showers. According to my training schedule I am supposed to do 5 miles, so I'm still ahead of the game.
Felt a bit slougish this am so time wasn't great. Also very HUMID this morning do to all the rain we had last night and so even the air felt heavy on me.

How is everyone else doing with their miles??

Tracy

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!!

Well, I havent' walked since Thursday, but did take my 1.5 hour bellydancing class last night and have another one on Tuesday. This class is soooooooo hard and boy is it tough to do those moves! I look like a sack of potatoes when I dance.:scared1:

We lucked out and didn't get any snow...whew, am I glad. Hopefully I'll get my act together today and do some outdoor walking, since my outdoor walks are almost at an end. Guess I have to pull my snowshoes out of storage.

Have a fantastic Monday Team and walk strong!

CHeck out this article from one of my racewalking newletters....

Tracy

Great tips! Thanks for the link.
I'm at WDW now, having a great time while still working mornings and trying to get a little mileage in. Yes, I get a great deal of mileage in at the parks but I haven't counted that. I'm really looking forward to RFTT and just trying to get enough workouts in to maintain the level I'm at.................SLOW. :rotfl:

Hello fellow walkers.....

I'm in a little bit of a funk with my training lately......I DON'T WANT TO DO IT!
John and I planned to do 10 miles on Saturday, but i was so winded by 5, we had to stop. Then we decided we would get up early on Sunday and try again. We even went to mass the night before so we'd have no excuse not to do it. Sunday morning rolls around, the alarm goes off, I shut it off and we both go back to sleep! I am having a big problem with motivation this year, guys. I will gladly put my big butt in the air so you can all kick it for me! Please, someone inspire me! I think I'm suffering from "Been there, Done that"
syndrome. Last year I had so much I wanted to prove to myself and now that I've done it, I can't get back the discipline I need to train. I'm still exercising, I'm just not walking as much as I should be because i'm starting to hate it. I'm really bad, aren't I? HELP!!!!!

Wow - I was popping in over here to check on you and see if we could get together for a walk sometime... I hadn't done anything for the past 2 months - quit the Galloway group due to repeated injuries, and couldn't get motivated to try it on my own. Couple of weeks ago went out and tried a W4/R1 interval and really liked it (DH finally convinced me not to cancel our WDW reservations for January by promising me he'd walk the full with me if we had to!), so I thought maybe I could do a couple of long walks with you guys. Sunday morning I skipped church and went out and did 6 miles at the same interval and felt really good. I'm gonna try for 8 this weekend, 10 next, 12 the next, then hope I'll be up for City of Oaks the next - which I will probably mostly walk. But based on your times for EE, my walk/run is about equal to your walk!

Anyway, I may not be the best one to kick your butt, but if you need a change of companionship or scenery, I'm up for it!

Jackie

Jeanne you and John have come a long way with your healthy living. You might just need to take a few days off and rest. It never hurts to remind yourself why you started in the first place.

Could it be that you started changing into an athlete so you could have a long happy life and not spend your golden years in a nursing home or worse?

Remember we are turning back our clocks dear. We get younger and stronger every year and yea it gets tough sometimes, but heart problems, strokes and diabetes are way tougher.

I know you like it, I saw the look of pure joy in your eyes when you took on that marathon and kicked it's butt. Maybe it's time to work on hanging that Goofy medal around your neck to.

We love you Jeanne and we are all here for you. ToT is coming up!!!

Oh Jeanne, Jeanne, Jeanne....... don't think I can take it easy on ya.......

Are you gonna make me do it........

Really....... I don't want to do it....

It is not something I enjoy, but since you said what you said,

Here it comes, are you ready???

You get 20 LASHINGS with a wet noddle for not getting out there and getting it done!!!

I am just gonna take on that invitation and put on a steel toed boot and kick you booty!!!

Come on girl, just turning off the alarm even after you prepared for it and even went to mass the night before?? What's up with that? Yes, you may have "been there, done that" But how long ago. You body just isn't all the sudden wake up right before the Full in Jan and go, "oh yeah, i've been here before this is a piece of cake." Come on now, think you were winded at 5 miles. Where does that put you in a training schdule for the full, what mileage are you "supposed" to be at?? I know it get kinda tedious(sp?) after some times, but preparation is most of what it takes to complete any race. Hello???
Come on Jeanne, get pumped, write out your training schedule on a card, notebook or journal. Each one of those days then gets a check mark, each training day and mileage needs to seen as a goal and you are challenged to meet that goal!! The edn of all those "mini" goals is the MAIN goal of completing the Marathon!!! (without having to crawl to finish line!)

OK, I hope that wasn't to harsh, but you asked for it.

Alright Jeanne, I want to hear what this weeks Mini goals are and want to know if you accept the goals and accomplish them!!
